  • i just started disc golfinng at Wickham park in CT. It's so beautiful there. It is such a relaxing thing to do. I'm currently trying to refocus myself on accuracy first, distance second. I mean, yes you want to use all of your energy and get the disc to go as far as possible, but a focus on accuracy usually means you'll get it to go more in the right direction, hence a longer shot overall...

  • barry schultz is the man!

  • i know bary`s nephew hayden dude he learned from the best. if you want a fun coarse to play to to sheboygan wisconsin vollrath park. they got a shack there that sells discs. its wisconsins oldest 18 hole coarse. its a fun place to golf at.

  • how come when i thro it it always is leaning sidways and droping to the left. it doesnt ever really glide for a while in the air like his first throw

  • @bammikevandmuska I think it's your release. If the disc is even the slightest bit lopsided on the release, the disc is going to curve. Just try different techniques. Maybe video tape yourself and watch it. Actually, definitely video tape yourself and watch it. That can show you exactly what you're doing wrong...

  • @bammikevandmuska This has to do with three things

    Disc Type and weight

    Release Angle

    Power of Snap

If you have a monster snap you can release a stable disc tail up nose down and it will still flatten out from the force of the snap

But if you have a weak or beginner snap try throwing an understable disc, my advice to you is to pick up a 150 gram R-Pro Boss, this disc will fly far for a less experianced thrower due to its design to roll to the right.

    Good luck!

  • @bammikevandmuska try to release the disc when its plane is level and/or parallel to the ground. ie, your hand-axis swings around even with the ground. another thing is to tilt the outside edge of the disc (relative to your throwhand) slightly upwards, so that it releases slightly canted to the "right". this counters its tendency to immediately head left after the "sprint" period (the time when its momentum is greater than its inertia) and leads to the desired "s curve" of good long drive

  • Schultz is the man and this is really sound advice.

  • does anyone throw frisbees completely sober

  • @uguysarefried The answer is yes. I have played a year and 3 months almost everyday and only smoked the skunk weed 2 times and only drank alcohol 4 times while playing!

  • @uguysarefried Discs, Costanza. And, yes, I do. I just started though. Had I played a few years ago things would be different.

  • @uguysarefried ocassionally

  • I've met him before at old orchard open in Minnesota and i was 12 there and now im 15 throwing like pro

  • I've met him before at old orchard open in Minnesota

  • that herky jerky shot just jerked and herked all over the place, it almost even flirked

  • you forgot to yell "fore" ...jerk. coulda killed somebody

  • Standing Rocks, one of the best courses out there

  • solid

  • like this if you know what park he is throwing at, hint its in stevens point, wi

  • HERKY JERKY

  • fred flintstone lmao. I used to do a stutter step for my backhand drives and i would try way to hard, I started doing X step slowly and my form is way better and i can just feel my body flowing with less resistance, this is a great tip.

  • good tip. I know many times I've driven hard to attempt to get a hole in 1, only to shoot way left or right and end up getting a 3 or 4. If I had simply just tried to land somewhere in front of the basket, then I get an easy 2. slow and steady betty.

  • That would have been funny as fuck if he hit one of those people walking over there. LOL

  • The smooth one went smoothly, I noticed.

The herky jerk was all crackly when it went inaccurate

    "relazing"

  • EveryBAHdy

  • I think this tip works especially well because you don't tense up and try to force full power on it right away. Makes me think about the tip on the fundamentals dvd with ken and dave on it, saying to build power as you move into your throw, because if you start out with 100% by the time you release it you'll end up at maybe 80% power or less. Also it should help you keep it on the fairway if you're not trying to pump out a really hard drive.

  • i just started playing Disk Golf. I consistently have this large hook on my shots. How do I get those hooks into line drives?

  • @storminmorman50 try bringing the disk from higher to lower in the release..start above the shoulder and bring it down slightly at an angel..and focus on keeping the disc flat and straight on release.

  • @220friend I will be sure to do that on my next round. Thanks

  • @220friend Thanks for the advice!

  • @storminmorman50 I guess they all eventually hook, but your shots will go longer straight, when you learn to get power on your shots. Until then you can try to start the shot with a slight curve on the opposite direction. When it finally starts to hook, there should be more space to land. The higher you shoot, the faster it will run out of speed and start to hook. I have never really seen a long shot that doesn't end with a slight curve on some direction.

  • @storminmorman50 What discs are you using? The discs you have may be too overstable for your skill level. The Discraft comet and the Discraft buzz are nice straight flying discs. They aren't drivers but they are much more controllable. The comet is also very useful in the woods and for anhyzer (left to right) shots. And the buzz is widely considered one of the best discs available. Also check out the discraft throwing basics video if you haven't watched it yet. Hope that helps.

  • I've been playing for about a year and for a long time I could get no distance with my backhand. I developed a decent forhand but that was all I had while my friends all have great, long backhand drives. I watched a lot of the video's here on grip, the x-step, snap and really tried to follow but I didn't get it until I watched Barry here over and over casually toss that great shot. It was the first time I saw all the mechanics working together. It completely changed my game!! Thank you!!

  • ha herky jerky lol

  • I've watched your first throw over and over and over... it's a beautiful thing. Thanks.

  • i think he's trying to mate with the disk whens he's demonstating "herkey-jerkey"

  • Runnier 22 you tit asking all these? boy u need jesus

  • does anybody have an idea what course this is?

  • You Tube search line: flying plastic the movie. Finally a disc golf movie worth watching.

  • Nice rolemodel, shoting towards people...LOL

  • i think ill try that because my driving is crap. he does have good form.

  • Comment removed

  • Good simple advice. I will eventually make par on my course in Duluth. I got +4 yesterday. Slowly getting better.

  • Dude your right. Before I watched the video, I could drive like 280-290 with all my power. After watching your video, I can now drive 320-340 accuratly!

  • "Fred Flinstone"... i do that...

  • I love the frisbee!

Throw it like you mean it!

    That is all.

    (My cat's name is Gigi)

  • LOL

  • I have been reading a lot of the comments and almost everyone is giving great advice. I have been playing disc golf for about 16 years. I started playing because I have a chronic illness that robs me of flexibility, bad shoulder , hips extc, I don't have a hugh running release. 1 step and throw, I usually get about 250 -300 on my drives without effort and 350 with a bit of effort. I think Berry is giving excellent advice, learn control and you will get much better control and distance

  • Barry really does have perfect form...

  • barry has perfect form

  • PlanB if yer talking about the guy in the video.. he is a pro, Ive met him at the Kansas city wide open. Hes a nice guy and you sir, are a moron. thenextbigshed.. yes its awesome and one of the few reasons I would tell you to move to the states..

  • Lol he's a two time world champion. On Innova's website his signature is on the champion beast.

  • I've actually had the pleasure of using that disc and it is a great accurate disc.

  • we have nothing like disc golf in england, i wish there was though becasue this looks immense. and relaxing.

  • its really funny....i love just going out with my friends while playing and talking. Incredibly relazing.

  • @rangers8489 you should smoke a joint too..

  • Wow....

  • Wow. riverSKYeagle... You're probably the kind of douche bag I run into on the course that talk about this drive they had on this whole or this putt they hit on this hole or explaining how you were trying to put "just a little anny" on that shot you just took but it didn't do what you wanted, basically not being able to hold a real conversation about anything else besides disc golf AKA GET BENT FAG.

  • I would have to say you are probably one of the cockiest most arrogant disc golfers I have met. No one that I have ever met has ever claimed that the disc your toss will make a large difference. Of course each disc throws its own way and has its own flight path but to say if you want to throw "GOOD" use all championship discs is plain ignorance of the sport. You think you can beat me message me at YouTube/danphelan89 Im always down for a new course.

  • all he did was throw a big hyzer on the second throw.

  • It was out of control and nose-up. The first throw was flat and level.

  • Is THAT my problem? Am I maybe trying to put too much muscle on it?

I max out around 150 to 200 feet off the tee. :( I'm really getting pissed.

  • how long have you been playing? what type of discs do you throw and what are their weights?

  • Here's my bag:

    DX Valk 150

    Millennium JLS 160

    DX Dragon 150

    DX Cheetah 150

    Pro-D Buzzz 162

    Pro-D Banger GT 167

  • Oh...been playing since May.

  • hmm, I guess i'd have to see you throw, but 150 - 200 feet is not bad for someone who's only been playing since may. The fact that your discs are light may contribute to your short distance in that light discs are harder to control and get chopped up by the wind. Try learning a power grip, takes more technique, try getting better plastic, Champion or Star or ESP. Snap your wrist upon release, watch a pro and have them teach you how but watch them closely and keep your head down.

  • yeah i agree. i use a 180 and its really stable, and i get pretty good distance

  • something i cannot find anyone commenting on is the fact that people bring their LEFT arm down to their side as they throw. That takes away -counter balance and your right arm will swing faster without it. I myself am losing accuracy over this. What can I do about it?

  • I am not sure what you are saying but we(the pro's) don't bring our arm down on purpose. It just happens.

But it is like Barry said; go smooth.

About accuracy; most people make the mistake of taking discs which are not good for their game. Overstable discs are only for players who play this game for some time. Learn to throw straight, learn a smooth shot that goes to the right(hardest shot of all for a righty) and don't go all out. Control 60 feet before you move up.

  • Great vid! But I don't think the point is to NOT put a lot of energy into the drive, as you suggest, but that a smooth, flat delivery is the foundation of a strong drive. Barry's seemless biomechanics make it look so easy! Once you've got the grip and smooth, flat technique, as Barry demos so well, just step up the kinetics to add distance. Thanks for this fantastic vid!!!

  • thanks for the tip barry, when you herky jerkyed it, you reminded me of what I was doing out on the course today. Can't wait to get out there and slow it down. Thanks again

  • you should play ultimate
