love Akuma vs Gen ... alone for the fact that Mantis Ultra one can kill his air fireball game and the damage scaling on hands combos is a lil less on Akuma with his weaker stamina :), was fun to watch
i'm the gen player in the vid. i know i made a lot of mistakes in the video, but i was tired as fuck that night and i'm not used to the square gate japanese sticks and the button layout. (i use the outer 6 buttons and a octagonal gate or american stick)
now looking back and if i play this match again, i probably will still lose (maybe not as badly) since gen's wake up options are fairly limited vs akuma.
i'll try to get some more matches of me playing gen up in the future.
Real Gen user?! Hell no! He makes an insane amount of mistakes. TRUST ME!
He probably has the potential to become good with him if he analyzes him, though. It's just that he does the wrong Oga (wall leap kick) versions and stuff all the time. It is painful for me to watch.
Hindsight is 20/20; it's easy for you to play couch commander and criticize his every move. Come back when you make it to the semi-finals of a tournament, competing against high level American pros.
You go ahead and think I'm one of those usual Youtube smacktalkers. It's not the case, but I don't blame you for believing it is. He did a very good first round, but after that he did a lot of mistakes. Missed Waterfall Kick, did an EX Jyasen when a heavy one would have meant the same exact thing (excluding the Super bar loss) and so on...
A typical Youtube scrub would have just said "dey suk LOL" and left it at that, and that's clearly not the impression you made; you have good suggestions on how he could improve his game.
That being said, I don't think that making poor decisions disqualifies him from being a "real Gen player;" that's what I was reacting to. He's good enough to have made it as far as he did, he just needs to refine his game.
Yeah, you're right: He's a real Gen user. He didn't play flawlessly, but still yeah, you can see that he overall is a good player. He did seem almost paralyzed after round 1, though, but that Akuma looks very good offensively.
I should have worded it a little differently, I guess.
If I lived in US I'd definitely attend tournaments. I live in Sweden, though, and I don't think there are many here, unfortunately.

It would be nice if the Gekiro kick packed the same priority and speed as a Shoryuken.

your ex version of that fly away kick is actually a good get away move.
masteralvin 2 years ago
its almost gens only wake up move.
spinseffing 2 years ago
from what i know that kick is actually pretty useful with all the variations. can turn defense into offense in an instant.
masteralvin 2 years ago
its a very easy to see coming and easy to punish offense but the ex wall dive is a great defensive escape.

I'm Guds Skyfall - the guy who commented on the video a while back.
I agree that Gen's wake-up game is extremely limited. They need to make his Waterfall Kick unthrowable on start-up and give it more priority. :S
His EX Ouga rocks for getting out of harm's way, though. You should have used it in some situations.
By the way, I think I recall your name from Shoryuken.

@necromancerduo I'd like to fight you to see whose the better GEN. If you got a gamertag, I'd be happy to know. :P

He might have been nervous, or something, though.
