  • Got to love us Scotts :)

  • How did you light it? That was the one thing you failed to explain.

  • This is a section of film taken from a 1 hour dvd all was explained in the film

  • @Adixo16 its a firesteel

  • @Adixo16 using a ferro rod (or flint as steel as people miss call them)

  • how long does it burn with that amount of meth?

  • dont you think that the plastic coating in the tin can will melt?

  • subd

  • Because of all the chemicals used in the production of tins, and the coating inside, etc, I'd be pretty reluctant to cook out of it. In fact I don't like eating anything out of cans for that reason. Good video however.

  • where can i get meths from?

  • Comment removed

  • pretty cool burner.. how is it fuel wise?

  • where did u get that firething

  • No thank you I'd rather use natural materials. o_O

  • All your videos are really usefull! Goin' for a survival in Norway around July, will use lots of your stuff man! I hope I'll catch fish Bushcraft style there! Or maybe a pidgeon ^^ And this cooker, is the best thing ever!

  • if you are trying to survive/camp isnt it bad if you pour ALL of your fuel supply into the insulation thingy

  • A small bottle of what? What was the fuel?

  • Very interesting. Cooker is excellent! Thanks.

  • What's a 'lozenger'???????????

  • @dunpostyn A small metal tin that candy or sore-throat lozenges come in.

  • Brilliant

  • This guy looks like he could whoop somebodys butt in a heart beat...with his thumb!

  • good idea well impressed. could you recommend a good flint and steel to me please.

  • Hi, Great clip, thanks for going to the trouble of making it. I have noticed that some tins have a passivated zinc lining, some have an interior the same colour as the out side of the can some have a lacquer coated interior and still others have a "plastic" membrane lining. Which one did you use and is there any risk using the "plastic" or lacquer lined types or do they stand up to the temperature?

  • Perlite works better than fiber glass.

  • Nice vid, nice concept. Thank you for sharing.

  • Would regular lighter fuel for a Zippo lighter for eg be adequete for it or would it burn out too fast ? Thanks for the great videos !

  • Splendid!

  • Brilliant! I am going make and use this for my own hiking. Thanks for posting this video.

  • cool

  • just watched this clip, fookin' genious!

  • What a cockhead, why not just use the hexi burner you had over the top thats what it's designed for!!!! that's like starting a fire on top of your cooker at home!!! COCKHEAD

  • a hexi burner is no good if its wet

  • What is the liquid he pours on the fiberglass

  • methylated spirits you can get it in any diy store

  • heet

  • @moneymaster93 shut up douche with a snuggie

  • Leave moneymanster93 (the "Gentleman" with a Snuggie) alone, you vile bastard!

  • well i'd leave him alone if he left the Microwave show alone

  • WTF does heet mean? Fuckin texas

  • Heet is a gasline antifeeze and water remover you add to a car gas tank in winter. It's mostly methyl alcohol. Anyone above moron intelligence knows that.

  • Ahem... "Heat."

  • @bowler2013

or just pour a strong alcohol onto it

  • what is a billy can? and how is it different from a can of soup or bean can, etc.

  • I have a cambells chunky can, can i use that for a cooking can cuz i think it has some kind of stuff on the inside

  • You'll be right, food cans are very safe, I've made many a billy can as a kid, so just give it a clean out & make sure there's no sharp edges!

  • is burning fiberglass toxic ?

  • it wont burn.

  • This is a case I will help your English skills again. The I in your sentence needs to be a capital because it is at the beginning of a sentence. Also, the word "wont" is not properly structured. You need to add an apostrophe then a T. It would come out looking like this "won't" (which means will not).

  • dude, this isnt a letter to the president. its youtube. dont be a fag.

  • im sorry but tea isnt going to help you survive

  • I'm sorry that you know absolutely nothing about survival. :/

  • Actually it will... but thanks for your input.

  • @rib109 yea and your mouth is full of sap

  • @vietanmay911

your mouth is full of cum.

    what's your problem gookboy ?

  • @rib109 dont pick on yellow boy, he's just mad because he cant figure out how to cook his neighbors dog on this kind of stove. but his sister, she so horny, she love you long time only fi dollah!

  • Some People really dig their tea eh?

  • Hi Bauks, I reckon we in the UK enjoy our 'Tea' the way we make it, hot etc with milk, just as much as 'Cold Tea' - (I don't know if that's the right name though ? ) - is enjoyed in the US of A eh! I worked for a very long time with the USAF on all three of the Bases near me, and my work mates (the AF Guy's ) reckoned that when they start to like our tea, it was time to go home ! haha They were really good to work with.

  • Ha! As long as they don't start calling fries "chips," they can still be Americans ;). We call it "iced tea" (vs. "hot tea") by the way, and many of us will drink it like water. Interesting though, that those of us who drink hot tea at home usually just call it tea, but out at restaurants, always "hot tea."

  • Hi @notreallydaeddalus ( crazy handle by the way ! :-)) ) yes "fries" and "chips", in GBUK, for the most part, if'n you buy frozen then the thin ones are labelled "fries" and the larger ones "chips" !! Ice Tea, I suppose in the restaurant one would emphasise the hot - to save the question being asked haha ! I agree with the tin liner thing below, I would not use a lined one for that purpose because of what you say, plastic melts !!

  • Would you like some chips to go with your hot tea, luv?

The plastic won't melt as long as you fill it with water and take the water off the fire when the water begins to boil. The water take the heat away from the plastic.

  • Err ? No Thanks eh.

    and

Good point about the transference of heat, forgot that.

  • You speak English not American. You should invent your own language and not try to teach your grandma how to suck eggs.

  • you might be thinking of Esperanto, the only language I know of that was invented. American English has developed naturally over a couple centuries.

  • Yeah, um... you're pretty out there, huh?

  • Meths = methylated spirits = denatured alcohol for us in the US

  • Thanks, I was looking for the definition in the comments.

  • wouldnt fiberglass get in your lungs

  • not if its wet

  • great video

  • If you're going to try to insult someone, at least attempt to use proper grammar so you don't make a complete ass of yourself.

  • how long does the instulation last for

  • forever, its the meths which diminish.

  • with the sweetie tin cooker, can you leave the lagging material saturated with fuel, to cook on a few times, or is it likely to leak in your pack due to it being compressed by the gauze mesh and the pressure of the tin lid acting downwards upon it? Also, is there a risk of the billy tin oxidizing with the heat and tainting your brew water? Sorry, thanks for posting, another great vid, just recently got the time to watch your vids after subscribing; keep up the good work!!!

  • fegman

i dont know about the leaking thing but since the billy tin is probably made from aluminum any part of the can exposed to air has already formed aluminum oxide which isn't harmful to people.

by the way what is "meths" I'm from the USA and have never heard of it. is it anything like lighter fluid?

  • i was just wonderin' that. lighter fluid or isoprophyl alcohol? but its blue.

  • can you use lighter fluid?

  • what is the purpose of the metal sieve on top of the loft insulation....thanks grmbo..

  • I would think to stop the flame going in to the fibreglass and burning to fast!, trouble is its a one shot cooker meaning when the meths has burnt its no use, like the billy can though

  • it would be nice to hear from the man himself, but thanks anyway.

  • Is there any danger that the inner coating of the can could "leak" out into the water when heating it?

  • Do all cans (tins?) have liners? I know many cans which contain acidic foods have an obvious white plastic film inside. And I believe all aluminum cans do as well, though it is clear and not obvious. Steel cans may not -- I personally don't know. I don't think I'd use one that I knew had a liner, though. Plastic will melt, and I don't know what happens to the lacquer in aluminum.

  • the can coaiting ca boil food in side with out melting for food safety reasons. As long as you don't over heat it. the liner will boil water for years without touching mental. Doen't let it boil dry and get food scorching frypan hot and It will last a long time until you need another one.

  • If the can has expansion rings on the side, it is meant to have the food cooked in the can. Polythene is the softest plastic in use and does not melt in contact with water. Boil up a few times if you suspect there may be a contaminent in a plastic coating, but i personally would not be too bothered, it's probably had food in contact for over 12 months.

  • Very good points. Of course, I forgot that when they FILL the cans, the food is at or near boiling in order to sterilize the contents! The time in contact isn't such a big deal in and of itself... The BPA scare, for example -- that chemical only leeches out of the plastic under heat. But I think you're right -- boiling a few times would probably do wonders to leech out whatever is going to leech out.

  • I think the modern process is the can also goes through a hot water shower. A can of stew will most likely be cooked in the can under pressure in an oven. The thicker gauge steel and it not having a ring pull should lead you to the best billy can material.

  • do you think drilling holes in a circle on the top of the altoids can would create a nice stove or would that make it worse?

  • i think it might improve but also it would make putting the stove out incredibly hard

  • Comment removed

  • absolutely agree with you on that But its you that chooses to share what information you have to others. That sir is why you are ''awesome''

  • you sir are awesome.

  • Thankyou for your king words. But I dont see myself as awesome as you put it. Its our Forfathers who learned the skills and then past them onto people like me. I feel they are the ones who are who should take the credit.

The films we produce are not bad either.

  • what else can be used for fuel and how long does it take to boil a cup of water?

  • Any liquid that will burn ei from petrol through to parrafin but remember you MUST have a an absorbant wick otherwise you have made a bomb not a cooker

  • I think a Zippo lighter works in just the same way

  • it does, pritty much anyway.

  • He stores the cooking tin in an esbit stove. Just google it...

  • A few questions... how long can you let the cooker burn for? also, can you reuse the loft insulation over and over again? Lastly, does the soop tin last for a lot of cooks or does it turn black easily after being on the fire?

  • My cooker will burn for about 10m mins but it depends on the size of tin you use. Yes the loft insulation can be re-used and the soup tin will only get black if you use it on and open wood burn fire but the tin does get discoloured

  • whats the liqued stuff

  • i think its methylated spirits

  • are the soup cans lined with female hormone where you live. i scratch the inside lightly first to check.

  • niiiicccce. bear gryllis and les stroud should see this

  • why when you can build a rocket engine, fly to the nearest valcano and boil a week old dead goat? lol

  • thanks for telling me ive made the same setup.

i bought one of those hexi cookers from yeomans

    thanks

  • cheers

  • what was the name of that stand and how much was it?

  • it is a Portable Commando Cooker and the can be 4.00 to 5.95 online

  • lol i bought one of those cookers at a camping shop.. they are so good :D nice idea with the tin too

  • I must say, I truly love your idea of using a soup tin to fit around a water bottle. As simple and efficient as this is, I never thought of it before... the wire handle (which conforms to the shape of the bottle, as well) it also an excellent idea. With that design you could hoist it above a wood fire and not even need the fiberglass or fuel... GENIUS. Thank you.

  • where did you get the cooker from?

  • I made it

  • ow, nice job and ollie rules ;)

  • i dont do all of that when i make pineneedle tea i get some water boil it and chuck the needles in. never done me any harm:)

  • You can also chew raw pineneedles for the vitamin C, but don't swallow the needles. They'll get stuck in your throat.

In winter, when hunting in freezing cold temperatures, I'll chew pineneedles and swallow my salivia for the extra boost of vitamin C we all can use when physically stressed. Scent covers my breath, too. Deer have such an incredible sense of smell.

I spit out any needle that breaks off in my mouth. They are as sharp as fishbones IMHO.

  • if you mind me asking to can you use gas and other flammable liquids?like gas and oil.

  • You can use anything that is flamable BUT I would urge great care when trying these things out.

  • if you mind me asking? what is meths?

  • Its methylated Spirit which contains methanol

  • I meant to comment on these items when I first saw this video. Great ideas and a great way to get put inexpensive items to a practical and effective use. I enjoy all of your videos. Thanks Peter!

  • wats that form the army u used to store things

  • it originally holds fuel for a cooker i think, im not quite sure but they have them at army navy stores for real cheap

  • y dont you just use hex squares?

    good idear tho im impressed

  • Isn't insulation toxic? If not is it reusable? If so how many fires?

I just use emergency candles(cotton ball and vasoline wrapped with aluminum foil)

  • A small bottle of what at 0:42 seconds? I'm guessing methyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).

I like this stove. When it's hot and dry in the woods, I don't like to build campfires because of the greater potential of forest fires. These small stoves are great ways to heat a can of soup or make a cup of pineneedle tea.

  • HOw do you make pine needle tea?

  • For one cup of pineneedle tea, I take a handful of green pineneedles (about a one inch in diameter when lightly pressed together in your hand) and cut them up about one inches long and drop them into a small pot (12 ounces) of hot water. I let simmer for about twenty minutes for a quick cup of tea. Let the tea simmer and cool to make a light beverage. To me, pineneedles taste a little like mangoes. If you like your tea stronger, add more needles to the pot. Discard needles before drinking.

  • You can use the pinetree candles, too. They are produced by the tree in spring and have loads of pollen. Pollen is reported to have a lot of protein and essential vitamins. Bee pollen (collected from various flowers and trees by honey bees) is sold in health food stores. I cut up the candles and add them to my tea, too. Mmmm, tasty.

  • nice i like the cooker but especialy the billy can realy cheap and effective

    cheers

  • Such an effective way to cook..!! keep up the good work..!!
