Takes me back to Embassy Suite Colchester!! Am I the furthest South? I've just started dancing again for the first time in MANY years and this one still don't half get me going.
what a tune! takes me back to when i was djing in 1977, always remember the abrupt ending used to catch me out, until a friend told me to listen for three "pips" just before it ends! see if you can hear them at 4.25
The Phoenix, about 1989 - 1990, i think. I could dance to this all the way through. Happy days, Im 40 now, and would probably need an ambulance after a few seconds. I long for those days back, dont wish time away, enjoy every second...
My mates were talking about Northern Soul, they're a little younger than me & missed out on the era so I just had to post this to Facebook to give them a little training into the greatest dance movement the UK has ever seen. Wigan Casino was Mecca to us!!!
I remember watching some girls at my local youth club dancing to this - they got right into it and I couldn't take my eyes off them - thought they were really cool!
After The Casino died, a whole generation didn't die? PembrokeRoadN15, we just spread the gospel according to Russ n Richard across the land, Northern Soul is probably as big now as it ever was in the 70s?
If this doesn't get your feet tapping, you ain't got no rhthym. Get on the dance floor and boogie on down to that trumpet, (it's almost up to Herb Alpert's standard). A great Northern dancer
i still have all my records and they will go in the grave with me keep the faith im takeing them with me just incase there is life after death if there is wigan will be there then i would have not died fo rnothing
Love this track like no other, Tiffanys Darwen, Golden Palms Blackburn, British Legion Accrington, The Mecca Blackpool, The Ritz Manchester need I say more. Reminds me of the song in the charts back then. Those were the days my friend we thought they would never end!
I doubt it was played in the UK before then, as they were initially very hard to get (on the US Fusion label). Of course, it got in the pop charts following it's UK release, so was being played all over the place. I even heard it at a disco in Ostend once!
Initially brought back from the States in 1976 by Kev Roberts and... yes, another big Blackpool Mecca record, eventually appropriated by that lesser venue at Station Road! LOL
Reminds me of the Blackburn boys dancing to it on the pier at Cleethorpes and the floor bouncing like the Ritz floor. Happy memories of bouncy wooden dance floors and sweaty boys x

Northern Soul - nothing like it, should be taught at school, it would give the kids an outlet for their energy and some enjoyment in life
