  • I can play bass, but I wish I was good at guitar.

  • Nick is one of those rare musicians

like Roy Harper, Leonard Cohen, Tim Buckley, Thom Yorke, Tom Bauchop, Tom Waits, Kenny Anderson, Burial, Cat Stevens and a few others

    geniuses all

    sons of the gods

  • @GGiblet Travis meeks maybe??.......is better than those guys...

  • @GGiblet No Einstien was a genius, the guys you mention were some song writers who used tradtional chord progressions to write a few songs and pull on your heart strings.

  • @lynus111 you do realize genius is 1). Subjective, and 2). genius takes many forms. Just because somebody doesn't solve complex equations doesn't mean they're not a genius.

  • @PopCultureSucks Yes of course, but you missed one. 3) the use of the word genius is bounded around so often in the arts (music comedy), its lost any kind of resonance or meaning. Nick Drake wrote probably 20 good songs, that doesnt exatcly make him edison, or newton or marie curie. there are billions of musicians who can right 20 good songs.

  • @lynus111 my point was that the term genius can be applied outside the realm of mathematics and science. I never commented on whether Drake was a genius or not, but I do believe strongly that a great imagination can contain just as much genius as Einstien had. When you consider great artists like Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin...ect. and modern artists like Drake who have considerable influence over art today, while I do take exception to the term being abused, many artists still are nonetheless...

  • @PopCultureSucks I know what your point was, i just believe the word genius should be reserved for the highest acculade (i never said you called him a genius). I believe what makes people a fully bonifide genius, is not only a creative mind, but the ability to communicate it to others and consistancy. Lots of people have moments in their life when can create and inspire, what puts them in the genius bracket is for them to do it again and again.

  • @lynus111 agreed, in that sense I suppose you are right

  • @lynus111 Yeah Edison certainly was a genius for screwing over Nikola Tesla and stealing his ideas and making the history books remember Edison. I will agree with you that the word genius is overused; however, I consider Nick Drake to be a musical genius (not a scientific genius) along with Jackson C Frank, John Fahey, Davey Graham, and John Renbourn. Say what you want about the 20 "good" songs he wrote, but he has had a profound impact on the lives of many who have discovered his music.

  • I heard him 15 years ago for the first time and from than he is always around .i would tell that he is probably the best songwriter in endless time.Respect

  • timeless

  • nick is kind of a mystical person you only hear about in tales of tradgedy. i wish he could have lived to see how much his music has helped people and there is no interviews or footage of him he is almost like some hidden graceful bigfoot haha

  • yes

  • I just love the feel of this song...It's so nice to get to "see" this side of nick

  • @Acousticlampshade Excuse me a little correction. This is not a "side of Nick". This is Nick.

  • wonderful........................
