The big circle around the location point seems to indicate the problem is NOT fixed. It's better than "no location" but it could get you lost. I think I'm done researching this phone if it's actually a hardware problem. I have to have a strong accurate GPS. Probably looking to the EVO again. Ideas?

@kanga1234567 Dude, I felt the same when I bought my sgs. The middle east firmware version didnt have the market app and the phone would freeze randomly. The fix to this is to flash the phone and apply another rom. Samsung made a great phone when it comes to quality, the hartdware they put in leaps beyond anything around it. You should look in to it. I would recommend googling Darky's rom. It fixes everything and makes the phone super smooth, very very smooth.

THIS DOES NOT FIX IT. The gps antenna is just not as good as other phones. You can turn wifi on and it will sort of work, in urban areas at least. For a long drive, the phone is rubbish.

mine was already set to supl.google.com, but operation mode was set to standalone so i changed it to ms based. I applied a gps fix from android market a while ago, could that have changed it?

same thing happened to me as most people, it just disappear. the number's entered just vanish after that last asterisk or "star" maybe it has to do with the version you have? i just received the OTA from t-mobile to JI6 so maybe next time you would think about stating with version you have on your vibrant. it might help.
