Don't you miss that thrill of getting hold of the latest Brecker CD and finding out where that amazing guy had gone next. I really miss that! What a giant!!
Flip guys its not about being the best its about a lot of things and one of them is about being good, and MB was dam good. We all have our place in music, MB had his JC had his JL has his and so do we.
It's too bad we'll never get to hear him play live again. Fortunately, he left us a HUGE body of work to study, listen to, and enjoy. Michael Brecker will not be forgotten any time soon.
I feel like throwing up everytime I think he's gone... it's just a fucking shame.. that the greatest sax player that's EVER lived... sorry Coltrane, but I think you'd agree.. has now died... we've never been here.. and I doubt will again... We stand on the shoulders of giants, but when a giant stands on the shoulder of a giant... all we can do is dream.. those summits are for the gods.
Yo listen hear! I sorry for breckers death to and yes he would be the best sax [player at he's own time but not all time cause the truth is I stilll hasn't surpass coltrane's level.
micheal is irreplaceable. i saw the summit performance coltrane acension suite. lovano and liebman are beautiful cats ravi had big shoes to fill. Michael can not be replaced. that tone was incredible. wow.
I think it's a beautiful thing to have MB's peers ask his closest musical partner to write a song for him. Read Randy's tribute to Michael in JazzTimes. It's unbelievably moving.
i know, what youre saying and im sure it is very moving; and certainly cant imagine the day that my brother or me has to experience this, but i just think that it is a little 'out' for a friend to request a person to write music for his dead brother. if it is anyones request at all, it should be randy's, is all im saying.
A very good piece of music in honour of a great musician. I especially like Liebman's part in it. To listen to Michael Brecker's solos is like hearing John Coltrane's ideas taken one step further.

not saying brecker isn't good just saying that without coltrane you wouldnt have brecker so I would think twice before saying that he is "better"

@Johnson6708 No one was greater than Trane..without him there would never have been the Mike Brecker we knew.

@boxing1000 no Trane without Coleman Hawkins no Hawk without Louis Armstrong

@JazzVideoGuyThere you go.

@JazzVideoGuy But we should agree on one thing..Trane was a musical genius, Brecker, as great as he was, wasn't.

The reflection of sorrow at losing a dear friend is evident in Michael's fellow band member's faces. So sad.
