God Hand 2 doesn't exist and will probably never ever exist. That is, Clover Studios (for what i've heard) doesn't even exist anymore. So, if God Hand 2 was ever to be made, it would be from a whole different studio. Therefore, GH2 wouldn't probably be near as good as GH1.
Definetly - people don't seem to be able to realise that this stuff doesn't just appear out of nowhere. When studios close, the staff all go their separate ways - the combination of talented individuals just won't come together again.
What's left of Clover lives on as Platinum Games now, looks as though they're getting their stuff together nicely too.
I love this game. My copy is too slow to enjoy its fast paced action so I am getting a newer less scratched one. Its funny how games that don't sell well or are not of well renown or are old tend to be funner than the so called "big hits". Of course this is not to say all games that don't receieve attention are good...
Anyone can become a games reviewer these days, it is no longer required that a reviewer has the skill to pick a game apart and evaluate the raw mechanics. They need to fill space and yet are only capable of writing up the very top-level surface of a game, they waffle on about absolutely pointless nonsense then stick a paragraph in there somewhere about the "gameplay".
God Hand is 100% pure mechanics, it doesn't rely on cheap thrills - you the player make the experience and this is the reason most reviewers are intimidated by it. The game system allows for extremely high-level play, your character is like a whole roster of a VS fighting game characters mixed together.
The play mechanics are a work of sheer genius, but don't expect to be given a free ride for minimal effort.
This game requires active learning from the player, you'll need to train, experiment and use your brain - God Hand's only crime is that it's extremely clever and doesn't dumb itself down to the lowest common denominator; once you get this system down other games like this feel empty and distant.
Now this is good explanation. Yeah, I agree on games that have been "dumbed" down. It just doesn't feel fun anymore. I heard before that the game can be traced back to like "Final Fight" or "Street of Rage." To be honest, games focus on graphics, sounds, and advertisement too much and not the gameplay itself. Yeah, I'll buy it. Thanks alot Saur!
That's a very good way to describe it - it is like Streets Of Rage or Final Fight but with massively in-depth control and attacking mechanics.
The effects of your actions on enemies are like what you would find in a fighting game like Virtua Fighter; there are counter-properties, stun properties, staggers, nullifies etc. This game is best played like a dedicated fighting game; you can't blunder your way through - the player needs to take time to appreciate how it all works first.
Haha, well.. I just ordered it for 14 dollars (yay) and hopefully, I'll enjoy as much fun as you have. I'll hope it'll be like going down nostalgic road, only with improvements. Thanks alot for your review.
I go for damage while in God Mode. While the total number of strikes is fewer, the damage inflicted is much higher if you evade-cancel stronger attacks.
It's useful to take note of the damage indicator in the moves select screen. The trick is to find a strong attack which will quickly cancel so that you can score heavy damage strikes in quick succession. The vast majority of moves can be cancelled but bear in mind that radial attacks are more useful when sideways cancelling and linear attacks better for forward cancels.
hey u know the move "Yes man kablam" or w.e u get early on, wat does it do? i dont know what "heat up" is sposed to mean for the special ability or w.e
Idiotic English localisation makes everything more confusing, don't worry about it. By "Heat up" they mean that the punch builds your Tension Meter very quickly, they could have labelled it "Tension-Up" like it originally was but that would have made too much sense I suppose.
I find the move indispensable, you can charge and unleash the God Hand very quickly using this technique.
I feel your pain, it's exactly the same for me aswell. It's not that I'm not actively looking for new games to play, I just find that modern games are nothing but eye-candy with nothing underneath.
These days I just work backwards and catch up on stuff I missed the first time round. Absolutely LOVING Border Down (Dreamcast) at the moment! That game is digital cocaine!
I agree with you. This game is the most awesome game I've ever played. It's so deep packed into combat, that you may think it contains no jokes, but a good combat system and jokes equals pure fun for me :D
To all you who have a PS 2 should get this game. It's the best game for PS 2! XD
Then a friggin' demon rips out of Joe's corpes and smacks Gene over the head with his polearm! He was down to a sliver of health before I could even react. I ate all the food before hand so I was dead soon.
The demon appearances in some locations are random - I got lucky this time, but fighting the Trident type is no different; force the guard break! Once it drops it's trident it will constantly try and get it back - use this nuance to force more breaks safely.
I'm guessing Tiger Joe transforming into a four armed serpentine demon with a trident is only in the American version? I tried the Shaolin Blast before seeking help from some vids (I was desperate...) but I didn't kill all of the enemies, just enough. Then I went through the others and defeated Joe last.
...then I foolishly lay down my controller in a moment of hopeful respite.
Heh...I beat the american version....I didn't kno the combos could be that cheat.....Too bad the frying pan roulete wasn't in the US one.....Very nice!
Just train and improve the way you play, when you land hits your level meter will increment, it decreases when you take a hit yourself. Also of note is that when you juggle a dead enemy the game's level still increases.
The one I'm using is a Winfast TV2000 XP which is just a cheap internal video capture card. It only supports composite and S-Video but for uploading stuff to YouTube the quality is OK.
Thanks a lot man - I love this section aswell, because the odds seem so overwhelmingly against you; when you get it right you proper get a sence of achievement!
I usually only use the double-palm strike with the frying pan here, but I switched over to the Beat Knuckle initially hoping to show how you melt through attacks without blasting the enemies away.
(players of Japanese version) - On your second loop buy God Knuckle asap! Coupled with the frying pan makes Jean an absolute MONSTER!
As always, an amazing vid. This is prolly my fav/most challenging area in the game, especially the top part. Your play at the beginning was amazing, absolutely tore thru those guys. "Time for a lil' fun" right b4 u destroyed that guy! LOL
Very nice kiting in the end btw, 8 hits in 1!!! lol
I really want Gene to come back in Anarchy Reigns... also godamn you play this like a pro XD

I've been getting mixed reviews for this game. I want to buy underrated games as well. I ask you, is it worth buying and why?

I used Shaolin Blast here too, but I ended up getting that Trident Demon. D: But I just kited it using Taunts every now and then.
I notice that you don't just mash the square button when you go into God Mode. Why is that? Wouldn't that be faster?

SaucisseMerguez 5 years ago
It's adds invincible frames to the opening animations of attacks like God Knuckle 2.
Have a look at what happens at 1:49 frying pan to palm smash - the enemies are blatantly landing hits which just sail straight through Gene.
