  • You could not do the "enemy stop firing" trick for a Twin Galaxies game. They banned that trick.

  • LOL I remember this trick! We learned it from some friend of a friend back in the 80's and it got so popular the Arcade owner had to make a "NO cheat" rule for the game, if he caught a kid doing it he'd throw us out... LMAO

  • Don't forget the Space Invaders always 300 point space ship trick...

  • A little more Info: This trick will work with just 1 bee also(must be from the left side as indicated) This Trick was published in June issue of Joystick Magaine in 1981. How do I know? I still have the issue. I also know tricks for Donkey Kong Jr. and Joust. Yes. I'm one of the old guys LOL!

  • I can't believe I forgot this part of my life. I played this at the arcade back in 82 too many times. It was my only vice. It gave me so much joy to get 2 ships. This brings back alot of emotion and makes me cry so hard. i spent all these quarters and my mom just gave them to me. She was so giving to me. Thanks for posting.

  • does it also work on the Galaga on Namce Museum DS

because thats the game i play Galaga

  • The enemies have names? What are they?

  • I have done this for one hour and they still will not stop firin. guess its fake

  • I dug into the code and found the problem. Check out the explanation on

    computerarcheology

    com

    Then follow the "galaga" link.

  • i tried on the xbox360 arcade version and it didnt work BUMMER!

  • ive been playing this since it came out....i can still roll the score over and reset the stages...we knew about this bug about a year after Galaga came out...it was in all the "how to beat" books...like the hide spot in pac-man

  • Does it work for the "Joystick consoles"?

  • OMG, I saw this "bug" on the arcades back in the 80's and wasn't sure if it was a dream or not, thanks for showing me that I was not crazy!!! However I'm still wondering how someone could find this in a time when there wasn't internet or game magazines.

  • Oh, look here, I found it :-D youtube.com/watch?v=qrSoBhhVSTY&feature=related

  • 1st challenging stage : get your right position (your missiles should fly between the G's in "Challenging" and don't move your ships then. You should get em all.

  • it didn't work for me. i waited for 25 minutes and nothing. i didn't die and i did exactly what u said. the bees didnt fire sometimes but usally they did, they never stopped firing for a prolonged period of time, please help me, thans

  • Yeah, the bug is fixed on console releases, still works in Mame!

  • Isn't there a way for them to shoot all their bullets on the second screen too?

  • Isn't there a way for them to shoot all their bullets on the second screen too?

  • i cant get this to work on xbox :(

  • Despite what some may think, this doesn't take all of the challenge out of Galaga. As your progress to higher levels, the much quicker enemies can dive-bomb you very effectively, and it can be very difficult to dodge them even without having to evade weapons fire.

  • Wow, this trick is the bees knees!

  • @Hurvl I see what you did there

  • 0.0 WOW!!!!!!

  • Will work with only bottom left bug as well. You should be able to then take it to 3,400,000 before ot resets at wave 256.

  • The emulation wasn't 100% accurate. That's way it did that. Try doing that on an actual Galaga coin-op machine.

  • Wow! Next time I play this somewhere I'm doing this. I should get pretty far.

  • I might be mistaken but I don't think this works on the revision B romset (galaga) but only on the original (galagao). I couldn't get it to work on the rev B set anyway, and I saw some posts that stated the same thing while looking around the 'net.

  • Very cool trick. Thanks dude!!

  • dude the enemies just ran out of ammunition because you survived that long tee hee

  • how the hell did you ever figure this out???

someone involved in programming must have "talked" years ago...

I mean, how could you have ever figured this out on your own?

    peace.

  • @stripes5150 - Well I can't take the credit for it since someone showed me how to do it a VERY LONG time ago. I couldn't guess whether this bug was "leaked" or if it was entirely random. It's possible someone just left the game to eat knowing they were in a safe spot then came back on shot the other two then realized something was wrong [or RIGHT] when they stopped shooting.

  • @DavesRetrocade Amazing! There is still an old Galaga game at this dinky restaurant out back with the gambling machines. I'm going to get the high score next time I'm in! lol...Thanks man. Cheers!

  • thank it really helped!!!

  • galaga is the greatest game ever invented and this trick is cool as hell

  • does this work on nintendo dsi 2007 namco collection

  • @stuuk1958 It should work on ANY system. I have yet to find one that it does not work on and I have tested several. Have fun!

  • @DavesRetrocade It doesnt seem to work on PS3 Namco Museum downloaded from PlayStation Network last year. The Namco Museum package also includes Pac-Man, Dig-Dug and some other shooter games. So frustrating. I did exactly as you said for about 10-15 minutes and they still kept firing at me, I stayed in the corner and indeed, they ended up shooting me in the corner from the right. Suggestions?

  • "Look, mom! No shots!" Haha, you're such a nerd.

  • how do you get the roms/rom player

  • @MrGrevy --you can google MAMEPLUS EMULATOR or MAME EMULATOR and then google MAME ROMS...its pretty easy to find what you're looking for.

  • Nice, theres a Galaga cab down the street at a truckstop, I usually get about 100k before I run out of lives, I didn't know you could get double fighter either, hopefully I will get an amazing score later tonight! Thank you tons.

  • My dad always draws a crowd when he plays after doing this, lol

  • @EndingEscence Haha! Yeah that's pretty much the only reason I would do it was to draw a crowd.

  • I used this back in the 80's. You didn't have to save the two yellow bugs...just the bottom left one. You could activate the cheat after he came down three times without firing. Problem is, it would piss other people off who wanted to play the game, so I stopped using it. I turned out playing better with them firing back at me, at easily topped 1M points after awhile. It's not hard to figure this game out without the cheat.

  • A classic cheat that a buddy taught be in about 1984. He worked for a company that fixed video games. The cheat was created so people fixing them could get to a certain level easier. It also works on Galag, the Galaga bootleg game, but that game stops and reboots at about 200,000.

  • Dude. That is SWEET. I never knew that was possible. Thank you. And your narrative is nowhere near as annoying as other gamers which made this easy to watch.

  • thats badass man..i goto the arcade all the time with my friend and he allways beats my score but with this im gonna own him for sure haha thanks dude

  • two questions 1. will this work on the actual n64? 2. will this also disarm the green/blue guys capture beams?

  • how the hell did you figure this one out

or if not you then whoever first did this

  • @omfgitsblake I've been asking my Dad that question for years

  • damn! this is awesome..thanks alot!!! i could beat my dad NOW LOL!

  • Does this work on Galagon?

  • @GINW63 Hell yeah, that scared the shit out of me... lmao. I wasn't expecting to see that type of shit. ha haaa.

  • oh woww... I cKan't wait to try this out on my Namco PS2 game. You can hustle soo many people by performing this trick lol.

  • @detroitMC313 You might be able to hustle. But the gig would be up as soon as the other person realizes the enemies aren't shooting at you. I just like doing it to show off and get that little crowd of 5 or 6 people around you and the cabinet. LOL!

  • Thanks dave!

  • @htool11462 You're welcome!!

  • Yeah I did this in the early 80`s with the original arcade game.

  • Does it Work For The Ps3 Too?? For Namco Essentals??

  • @kpsp17 - It should work. Give it a shot. It has worked for every system that I have tried it on. Good luck!

  • Galaga is the official arcade game of washaterias worldwide.

  • unfortunately this trick does not work on the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game :(

  • @jafrz5 Too bad. That tells me that they did not use the original BIOS files from the machine. :(

  • you shouldnt shoot the red and green things let them fuse to a 3 part and then shoot them down to get 1600

  • my dad loves these games we found out about how to do this a few years ago when he came home one day a friend a work told him (he said he always wondered how people got 99999999

  • thanks for the trick.. i dont know how the heck you figured out that it had to only be the 2 bees on the left remaining and waiting all that time... anyways i'll definatley try this trick at my laundry mat.. I'm addicted to this game when i wait for the washer and dryer lmao... only problem is that this game is a huge workout on the forarms (from pressing the fire button a million times) when you get deep into the stages...

  • @UnFreggginReaL ive know this for a few years i wonder how someone did this really though

  • Sweet trick. Ill have to try it next time I see an Galaga arcade machine.

  • how the FUCK did someone figure that out

  • Probably someone like me who had way too much time on their hands, or perhaps accidentally. LOL!

  • EPIC

  • Matrix! I like that!

  • Work's for Namco Museum 64 on my jungle green N64.I'm going to incorporate something like this in one of my indie game's.

  • chaddvan it works on mame 360 and original cabinet

  • Has anyone confirmed -- does it work on the Wii version? I tried it once and it did not work, but there is a small chance that I lost track of the two lefthand bees when they started diving, and I might have left the wrong two. Anyway -- does it work with the Wii version?

  • I haven't heard of something like this for the Wii. But, then again I am an "old school" gamer so to speak. I don't keep up with what is going on today much. :-)

  • i hope this works on the downloadable version for wii :D

  • I agree...who decided way back when to not shoot these two bees and then avoid getting shot for 15 minutes just to see what would happen??? Doesn't make sense and chance discovery seems unlikely

  • lol yeh i agree. but weirder glitches have been discovered. rather from boredom or stupidity, something hidden always shows up.

  • who the hell had patience to figure this out? lol!

  • No, thats just what the game does to test all the sprites and colors.

  • Nice Mega Man II background!

  • I got this when I ran my NES emulator then loaded the game, scrolled the pointer off the screen then pressed CTRL and PRNT SCRN at the same time which takes a snapshot of the screen, then opened up PAINT and did a EDIT PASTE, and presto!! you have a nice background!!

  • does this work on the xbox live version

  • It should work since it uses the original BIOS file from the game, but I can't confirm since I don't own an XBOX.

  • does it work on the wii the downloadable version plz resond

  • I could not tell you on this one. I don't own a Wii and I haven't heard of anyone doing it yet. But, would be great if it does! :-)

  • good shit. 5 stars

  • oh man, what memories. i did this all the time in 1984. all i did was not shoot the top left bee only of the two you showed. took about 10 minutes. anyway, thanks for this. great memories.

  • does it wrk for namco museum on gameboy

  • It may...I have never tried this on gameboy...but I can try it out and get back with you...

  • ***** CONFIRMED ***** This DOES work for Namco Museum on GameBoy ADVANCE!! Enjoy!

  • well , for how long do i have to do it , seems like an eternity , am pretty sure i've now done it for 18 minutes or 20 , and triple check with the correct bees. help.

  • @boredandwise what are you trying it on? it doesn't work on all media, i believe it only works on the original arcade game and the mame emulator.

  • @boredandwise THe time it takes varies...I have gone 20 minutes and then there are times I have gone only 5 minutes.

  • wooooow....REALLY nice tip man :)

  • Does this work on the Namco Collesume Gamecube version of the game? I could test it if no one knows.

  • It should work on nearly ALL systems. They all use a copy of the ORIGINAL BIOS from the machine.

  • Sweet! The universe will be safe! It's hard to sit there and hear that music and not want to wail on a button.

  • this doesn't work on ps3 namco museum version.

  • Hmmm...interesting...thats the first I have heard ot it not working, which tells me that PS3 namco isn't using the original BIOS from the game.

  • confirmed for Namco Museum on GBA

  • what program on the computer is that??

  • It is an emulator called MamePlus.

  • in the biginining how do you find those small arcade machines

  • I am not sure what you are asking. These arcade machines are very large.

  • Forgive me, I know what you're talking about now. You can find those old mini arcade games on eBay very easily without spending a lot of money.

  • IT WORKS! now all you really have to do is dodge the suicidle enemies. :D

  • BUT - make sure you start killing off all your guys around 990,000 because you will roll over the score back to ZERO, and the game will think you started over.

  • But at the moment when perform this trick, the bombs sometimes cross the screenside and returns to another side of the screen.

  • Yes! Just be careful and be mind the right side of the screen! ;-)

  • bet some lil endtimes idiot who wasant even alive to know the good feeling air evenings gave me the - .

    what ya wanna bet. lmao.

+ for me. signed non oppressed anymore. 8)

  • That's AWESOME

  • Thank you!!

  • galaga isnt old. 20 years isnt a long time unless youre sick or trapped or in some bad way. seems like yesterday to me. this is my fav quarter game. dragons lair and bowling were my fav"s also.

  • Correct you are Luke! Games like this don't get old...they just get better!

  • ....and I am also about to turn 38!

  • This trick is old.... my friends and i did this back in the day when the game came out... we would spend hours and hours... to see who would last the long on two ships before we killed them both, and change turns..

  • Dang! Thats awesome!

  • oooooh noooooooo it didnt work

  • Never seen it done before. I only wonder who figured it out....and how. Btw i have the #3 TG MAME score... Must try harder :)

  • I remember a kid showing me this in 86 although we'd keep any two bees on level 2. Also you forgot to mention that after they stop firing they come down twice as fast.

  • It worked!

  • I got it to work on MAME myself. I wonder if it works on the XBOX live version.

  • that are important come in the next line. Is that what i'm doing wrong? I let them fly by for 10 minutes before i got really bored. Am i not supposed to shoot any of the bees at first or should i have waited longer than 10 minutes? Or is this Arcade not able to? It looks really old tho and it is an actual Galaga from like 83 i think. How can i tell which Galagas can and can not? Either way great video man. Hopefully thanks to you i'll crush those high scores... drunk!

  • REMEMBER! IMPORTANT! As I stated in the video DO NOT shoot ANY bees when they are forming on the screen! Just let them make their formation. Once that is done kill everything, BUT DO NOT KILL THE TWO BEES ON THE LEFT! ONE ON TOP AND ONE ON BOTTOM! kill everything except those two bees and let them run....the only hard part is the wait! Enjoy!!

  • You are a yum yum Dave. You don't need both bees, only one. Plus you can do it with the one bee on the right hand side also. Also, I'm pretty sure I've done it with the Queens also. It takes them 100 times to go by and then they'll stop. I very well could be the best to ever play the game. I can tip it on one man and that's with them firing.

  • ...interesting

  • A buddy of mine used to work for a company in the 80s that supplied video games to shops, arcades etc... and he showed me this trick. I used to be able to roll it (at 999,000?) Trouble was it took ages - usually 15 mins - to get the aliens to stop shooting. He said it was a bug purposely put into Galaga and other arcade games so programmers could test games at higher level without having to start from scratch. The bootleg game Galag used to stop at 200,000 I recall.

  • Correct! I would usually run the score up to about 990,000 then kill off the rest of my guys...totally worth it even though it took well over an hour to get that high of a score!!

  • LMAO, I learned this way back in the mid 80's. Use to win all kinds of money with it. What I do is run the score as high as I could go w/out rolling it to get the hi score. You have to kill a lot of your extras off or you can inadvertantly roll it over. It's funny to have people come back and forth asking if you are still on the same quarter. And, their look seeing 8 extra men along the bottom was priceless. They were clueless about what the hell was happening til I told them, if I did.

  • OH YES!! I remember those days when you would get that small crowd around the machine you were playing on and you you just quietly kept that secret to yourself!!

  • sweet

Ive been lookin for this video all morning

there's a galaga tourney on gametap and it looks like i have the upper hand now! my score is 193,000 without this "Cheat", yahooooooo smoke it up, thanks for the video man

  • I got galaga on a tv games controller, and ya worked like a charm

  • YEP!! Works on nearly every known version of galaga for nearly any console or system. AWESOME!

  • ya and then i did it on an arcade and it worked there too

  • Anyone know if this works on the Xbox Live Arcade version?

  • Just tried this on the Namco Museum version for the Gameboy Advance. Worked like a champ!

  • I don't think that the galaga on my Wii is the original but on sunday May 18 i'll see if i can get it. When i tried on the galaga i have right now the bees that i left flew into the corner that you said to hide in.

  • If it didn't work then it wasn't based on the original BIOS. Sounds like something rewritten.

  • pleese reply

  • It should since it seems that I have done it at the arcade, a mame emulator, and on a PS1. Go for it and let me know! Just make sure you are playing the ORIGINAL galaga!

  • do u think this will work on my wii galaga??

  • Im going to try tis right now!

  • i remember this guy who worked in an arcade showed me this...like in back in 1984..it was so awesome at the time...he also showed me how you could slide up super mario brothers plexi glass front to press the credit button..

  • That's how I learned how to do it, watching some guy at a pizza shop. I about crapped myself when I saw he was on level 120! It was about the same time as well, around 1985. Still a great game!

  • Hey i tried to get this game using MAMEUI32..I keep on getting error "51xx.bin" do you know what that is? I got Donkey Kong, Defender, Donkey Kong Junior, Joust all working. Really wanted Galaga...Any Ideas?

  • I am not familiar with MAMEUI32, but I know that your version of Mame needs to be a match with the romset. You can get them ALL (over 6,000 roms for Mame including CHD files) from the site I helped build. I'll send you a message.

  • Nice one!
