  • I'm curious what you yourself find synthetic sample/synth instrument libraries useful for, considering you have no trouble making your own patches from scratch.

  • Great video! It was very helpful.

How can I record a dual manual keyboard/organ with upper manual in track 1 and lower manual in track 2 in logic 9?

  • Great Vid

    really useful!

and i like "oh im only kidding NO SMOOTH JAZZ!"

  • you completely changed the way i look at my software. thanks again. rare steak, i dig it.

  • Note.... Midi has 128 values not 127.....0 counts as a value so 0 to 127 actually equals 128 values......great video!!!

  • Man, David your the man !!!! I learn so much from you bro !

  • Thanks man, you are a great help.

  • LOL when you go to the shite err site

  • Fantastic.

  • Great Vid! Do you know if there is a way to assign different midi channels to individual pads on an Axiom?

  • hay man i tried the layering of sounds and it sounded like its clipping out. what am i doing wrong please help me thanks in advance

  • How did you midi up Logic to cook a steak?

  • my mouth is genuinely watering!

  • David Earl ..... wow! I mean what can i say, you're an amazing dude. Can't thank you enough bud. you're tutorials have helped ALOT!! .. i know you barely have enough time to play metroid but you choose take the time to help us out anyways... I BOW TO THEE...

  • Just wanted to leave you some props. These videos are an invaluable resource for someone just getting up to speed with MIDI controllers and Logic itself. Kudos!

  • I HAve A Very Urgent Question: can u limit the key/note range on your instrument or midi track output in Pro Tools? If so, how?

  • Rickaudio is right... don't forget us little ninjas! lol

  • Common man... I know that you are busy but don't forget your little ninjas.

  • great to see you again Ninja! Can't wait for the Axiom vid!

  • Hey! love your videos, my question is if you don't use logic presets what do you use? thanks :D

  • Thank you so much virtual Logic Sensei! I recorded midi drums and midi guitar jams for the first time. Also, using key range is making my Axon Ax-100 and Logic experience completely seamless. Thanks again from New York!

  • eat less meat :P

  • I swear I could smell that steak

  • Oh nice! I would always just play it on one track and then copy the midi region to the next track. But this is neat.

  • i have been wondering this for so long!! lol i knew u could do it but didnt know how... thanx a ton man!

NEXT VIDEO IDEA... what is the easiest way to export all tracks as seperate audio files with all the inserts and send effects on the track... i know about the export all tracks as audio feature but it seems like it doesnt keep the sends or inserts on the audio

  • ninja, love your videos but it'll be even better if you upload them as VIDEO PODCASTS so we all can download them and watch'em everywhere!!!

    gracias!!!

  • @SFLogicNinja PLEASE UPLOAD ALL YOUR VIDEOS AS PODCASTS SO WE CAN DOWNLOAD THEM AND PLAY THEM ANYWHERE PLEASE!!! THANKS

  • Love that intro!

  • Mate you did not mention how the steak was?

  • @dtej00 it was DELICIOUS

  • Thanks Dave!! I Hope the steak was tasty!!!

  • This guy is really like a ninja, you see him only once, then he's gone! Seriously though this guy is a freakin' logic god. If I ever had the money San Fran is where I would be!

  • What about that steak Ninja? Are you gonna share that too :P

  • Oh man I really missed your videos :D

Thanks so much for the link too

  • I love ur stuff. I taught logic last year at a fine arts school in Dallas. Wish I had come across your videos last August. Would have saved me a ton of time. Thanks for all you do.

  • man... screw you, now I want steak... keep up the good work though. lol. VERY useful.

  • should be quick and easy: How do you take a large swathe of selected instruments (say, 8 MIDI instruments) and put them in record mode at the same time? I'm sick of clicking 8 times to get every instrument in record mode and then one mis-click can kill them all.

  • @EisenFeuer Use groups. Click and hold just above where the instrument is, and you can choose a group. You can set the group to only record enable if you like. This means anything assigned to that group will record enable as well. *bows*

  • @SFLogicNinja why thankya partner. Now if only you could come over to figure out why the cymbals on my drumset (Channel 2, Alesis Trigger iO) are playing piano notes (Channel 1, Axiom49), but not the toms or snare (properly playing drums on my Ch2-only instrument)... I know. super weird.

  • I need to know something. I just got an axiom 45. And with it came Ableton live. Which has been flawless for the last couple weeks since I installed it. But I am very limited by the sounds. In logic I can alter every parameter of a sound, but I can not in Ableton. I know Logic isn't designed to be used live, but Do you think it would be stable enough? Let's say that I do actually plan on playing shows and I would need it to never ever mess up. Also assuming I couldn't possibly get Mainstage.

  • @grayskyguitar I've used Logic live many, many times. You have to be smart about it, though. Always keep an eye on how much cpu and ram you are using in a given session. Use an external firewire 800 drive that runs at least 7200rpm. Have a good balance between audio and virtual instruments. Oh, and Mainstage comes with Logic Studio, so you should be good there! *bows* (I'll do a Mainstage video later)

  • I wish I had steak right now.

  • Has anyone sampled a steak yet ? Or dropped it on a blue carpet ?

  • Brilliant to see you too! The aliases were very cool! Looking forward to the Axiom vid! :)

  • Hey SFLN, hope you enjoyed that steak haha. I have a question: In your example, you recorded actual midi input from a keyboard and there were 3 audio instruments listening to those notes. Can I do the same but telling these 3 instruments to listen to a fourth track with midi notes instead of hardware midi events? Is this the kind of stuff I have to route in and out on the Environment window?

  • @devixdesign be on the lookout for a mind-melting upcoming video that shows how to route back and forth between the Environment and Arrange. I think this'll address your question... *bows*

  • @SFLogicNinja Awesome, thank you very much for your great videos :D

  • hey always wondered, why do you have two logic icons in your dock?

    PS loving the vids ninja!

  • @ToasterJoey6 It's Logic 8 and 9 for legacy compatibility issues...

    *bows*

  • @SFLogicNinja Oh cool! i started on logic 9 about two months ago so i never had 7 but thanks for replying!

  • @ToasterJoey6 Logic 8 and 9 I'm guessing

Why he has both still I don't know

Love your videos, makes everything really easy

  • Well funny episode! Now I want to play smooth jazz and eat steak!

  • Thanks! :D

  • Awesome man, super interesting tut as always! Loved the steak interruptions throughout, kept it interesting haha

  • what was the interruption? couldn't hear it!

  • oooooouuuuhhh... that steak is TORTURE!!!

  • I am so hungry now...

  • no video of you eating steak? lame. :)

    Hey SFLN,

Do you ever send MIDI over a network? What are the benefits?

  • The waits betweens videos get longer and longer. Great video though.

  • Oy. This actually should be numbered later than 41. Mea Culpa. :-)
