Kudos yo justmouse sez. LBGT community hated bisexuals 40 years ago, we were not excepted in our own community. I agree with what you are saying. 35 yrs ago, I just left the community, and things my life got better. I guess the community needed to catch up. I can see that this shit is still going on. Get over it people start reaching out to the rest of us that aren't just gay or lesbian.
I am doing a study on attitudes towards sexual fluidity. Part of the demographic questionnaire needs to include gender. I am fighting with my professor to include categories beyond male and female! Although I am against putting anyone in a box, sometimes you have to for research sake! I heard you use the term "gender variant." Do you think male, female, transgender, and gender variant will be sufficient for categories? Or is using the term "gender queer" better? Thank you for your video!
I am somewhere between genderqueer and soft-core transman. I don't like gender because it generalizes based on the genitals or lack of. I am more than my genitals! I don't even use them. =(
Great, great video! I went to a gender discussion last night at my college and have just been on a gender kick lately. You made some excellent points. Thank you for everything that you do :)
my and my gender therapist talked about being outside the binary yesterday. i have a couple videos that touch on this topic. i am FTM, prefer male pronouns but i use a gender neutral name because i feel like i am 50% on both sides of the fence. i'm just a big Queer, heteroflexible [bi but would prob only sleep with *cis women or *trans men] so i define as transgender, but refuse to fit a stereotype!!!
what i don't understand is everyone's need for labels. tran, genderqueer...whatever. why do ppl need a title, or label? just be who you are. i dislike labels. as soon as i am given a label, i am boxed into a category, and given boundaries. it's ridiculous. it's limiting. it perpetuates stereotypes and discrimination. just my opinion.
@justmouse On the one, more dominant hand, I definitely agree with you, and if we lived in a utopia, they might be unnecessary. On the other hand, from a practical standpoint, labels are just words that make these things easier to talk about. Basically, we need words for things because there were no words for things before. And anyway, stereotyping and discrimination are society's problems, not the fault of the labels.
Because ours mothers, fathers, brother´s, sisters and all the people need to know how to think of us, and what we´re and what not... I dislike them too basically because that labels describe a very little part of my identity and live style... so maybe if western culture didn´t fuck us and fuck with us or if we had the knowledge that we are a product of us current culture, maybe this world would be a better place to live as whatever we want us to be...
hence...transgenderqueer, which is how i self identify. genderqueer mind, transgenderqueer body as i am partially transitioning (top surgery, hyst, but no T). i consider myself genderqueer and transgender and do not see the two as at all being mutually exclusive. if genderqueer became more of a bonified category maybe the binary would actually destabilize and the dichotomy could truly begin to be deconstructed. i like to think that genderqueer is the wave of the future, but i'm an idealist. ami

I have always felt really different because I don't consistently "present" as either gender although I prefer male pronouns and use a "male" name.
I guess I tried really hard to be a woman and that didn't work. And then I tried really hard to be a man, and that didn't work.

yeah, the one thing i knew was that i was NOT a woman. then i realized i don't like being a man either. so genderqueer it is!
