The several attempts to start were actually good for the engine b/c the oil pump is distributing oil throughout to establish the hydrodynamic wedge in bearings, gears and at the rockers. When the engine eventually starts and is continuously running, it will have a nice pre-lube and this reduces wear n tear of the components.
