Hitchens' essential point (or rather, C. S. Lewis' point that Hitchens expounds upon), that the essential core of Christianity being the idea that some other entity can forgive those who've hurt you, stolen your property and money, slaughtered your children, etc, without any input from you - as if that other entity was the aggreived, and not you - is actually immoral itself, is probably the 1st time I've ever gained a truly new insight from YouTube.
ALTHOUGH I'M A CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN (Baptist), I no longer believe that the Bible teaches eternal torment or suffering. The Bible teaches eternal punishment, but it's not eternal torment. In my popular Internet article, TRADITIONAL DOCTRINE OF HELL EVOLVED FROM GREEK ROOTS, I explain how and why teaching of eternal torment entered early into Christianity and how Scriptures have been misinterpreted and taken out of context to support that teaching. ~Babu G. SCIENCE SHOWS THAT THE UNIVERSE could not have sustained itself eternally because of entropy (even in an open system). Einstein confirmed that space, matter, and time had a beginning! EINSTEIN CONFIRMED that space and time are just as physical as matter. That's why space and time can be altered by gravity, and space produces particles. Einstein's equations show that the universe couldn’t be eternal. It had a beginning. Einstein believed, because of science, in the existence of God behind the origin and order of the universe. He didn't believe in a personal God like Christians do, but he did believe science pointed to the existence of an all powerful and intelligent Creator
NATURAL LIMITS TO EVOLUTION: Only evolution within "kinds" is genetically possible (i.e. varieties of dogs, cats, etc.), but not evolution across "kinds" (i.e. from worm to human). How were species living, reproducing if their vital structures, organs, and reproductive system hadn't evolved yet? Read my Pravda Internet article: WAR AMONG EVOLUTIONISTS! I discuss: Punctuated Equilibrium, "Junk DNA," genetics, mutations, natural selection, fossils, genetic/biological similarities between species.

DAWKINS, HITCHENS, AND HAWKING REFUSE TO DEBATE with creationists who are SCIENTISTS, such as the scientists at The Institute for Creation Research. Dawkins and his friends only debate non-scientist creationists. Read articles by scientists supporting creation at The Institute for Creation Research site.
Scientific method: Make observations, formulate hypothesis, follow the evidence where it leads, test hypothesis, make the conclusion, test conclusion, peer-review, publish work.
ICR method: Make a conclusion, search for the evidence to support conclusion, convolute the evidence by emphasis on gaps in knowledge, fail to support conclusion, fail peer-review, never get published, get laughed at by scientists.
Behold the reason our textbooks say nothing about creation, and never will.
BLIND WATCHMAKER NO ARGUMENT. Natural selection is no "blind watchmaker" because it can only "select," not produce. It only operates once there is life and reproduction, not before, so it couldn't have been involved in life's origins. A partially-evolved cell (an oxymoron) would quickly disintegrate. It couldn't wait ("survive") millions of years for chance to complete it and then make it living! Read: HOW FORENSIC SCIENCE REFUTES ATHEISM
IMAGINE A FISH WITH PART FINS, part feet with the fins evolving (transitioning) into feet. What survival benefit would there be? The fish couldn't use its fins or its feet, and there are no fossils showing such a creature ever existed. They only exist on automobile bumper stickers! There are no true transitional forms, either living or fossilized. Evolutionists realize this fact! Read my Internet article: WAR AMONG EVOLUTIONISTS!
APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. Even a slight change in the position of a muscle or bone, for either, would be excruciatingly painful and would not be an advantage for survival. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from ape-like creatures anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from four-legged-pawed dog-like creatures. Read Internet article: MISSING LINKS THAT NEVER WERE.
GENETIC INFORMATION COULDN'T HAPPEN BY CHANCE, so it's more logical to believe that genetic similarities between all forms of life are due to a common Designer who designed similar functions for similar purposes. It doesn't mean all forms of life are biologically related! "Junk DNA" isn't junk. These non-coding segments of DNA have recently been found to be vital in regulating gene expression. Read my popular Internet article: HOW FORENSIC SCIENCE REFUTES ATHEISM
ALL REAL EVOLUTION ( i.e. varieties of dogs, cats, etc.) in nature is the expression, over time, of already existing genes. Evolution is possible only if there’s information (genes) directing it. Only variations of already existing genes are possible, which means only limited evolution and adaptations are possible. Nature has no ability to invent new genes via random mutations caused by random environmental forces. That’s evolutionary faith, not science. Read my article, WAR AMONG EVOLUTIONISTS!
DO EYES CARRY SCARS OF EVOLUTION? Read this fantastic Internet article by biologist and creationist Brian Thomas. Thomas refutes every argument of a "flawed" design for the eye, and explains how and why the so-called flaw is actually the best thing for the eye. Read the article! It's amazing what facts evolutionists will ignore. Numerous times evolutionists have been proven wrong about their interpretation of a structure as being flawed or useless.
It's in the earliest stage, if it weren't, they wouldn't do chemo or other therapies, they would surgically remove it. While Esophageal Cancer is very aggressive and survival rates are not great, we are making advancements every day. Hitch will be fine, and Atheism is growing at 105% annually, while all religions are growing at about 20% or less a year. There will be more like Hitch. Thanks for watching and commenting too!
religion has nearly exhausted its recruitment, and since the population is growing rapidly, and many are becoming educated by Science/Reality, they ignore the childish silliness of religion. Atheism is growing at 105% annually, where christianity is growing at 5% a year, and their new target is Africa, where the pope, an Ex-Nazi, visited last year and told them that "condoms cause AIDS," which won't help his recruitment since it will kill millions. The religious aren't bright.
1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. 2God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. 3Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Oh how those charlatans will wallow at the news that one of the worlds most eloquent human beings has been diagnosed with cancer. Get well soon Hitch.
@soapdodger1955 I'm a devout Christian, and I hope this eloquent man pulls through. We have so few Leftists that make any sort of sense when they open their mouths, that the loss of Christopher Hitchens would leave a gaping hole.
And as a man of science, I hope Mr. Hitchens likewise sees reason and gets rid of his awful smoking habit.

Devout Christian? So that means you believe in a talking snake, think people that work on Saturdays should be killed along with gay people and children that talk back to their parents? Do you also believe that the earth is less than 6000 years old? The book that you so dearly love ( bible ) is true or it isn't. Which is it?
@kansaimagic I believe that the Christian activists I've seen serving the poor are more decent people than the secular bureaucrats that are muscling them out, mainly for their own profit. From my limited experience, I've noted that most street people feel similarly.
As for talking snakes, they most certainly exist. Our modern word for them is "Marxists".
Silly comment. The tebaggers in the US are the christo-Psychotics, and most American "Bureaucrats" call themselves christians. Atheists are by far more loving, caring and benevolent, make no mistake about it. Bill Gates gives hundreds of millions away, how much does the bush family give? Those "devout christians" give almost zero, like most religious nuts. The religious give since they think it earns them a merit badge, it doesn't. US prisons are 66% christians, and POINT 1% Atheists.
And as far as "talking snakes" are concerned, yes, they absolutley exist, they're called christians. Just ask the pope, RATzinger, who went to Africa and told them "condoms cause AIDS," which will cause millions to die and suffer, not to mention poope RATzinger's love for Criminal Child Molesters, which he has protected, relocated away from criminal prosecution and promoted to higher positions where they work even more closely with small children. There's no bigger talking snake!
@mccainisthrough Christians didn't kill a hundred million people in the last century - and for their own good, no less.
I might add, that the explosion of venereal disease in Africa curiously coincide with the rise of Marxist insurgents there. Not much that condoms can do about violent socialist gangs using the forcible rapes of entire village populations to make ideological points. I suspect German female civilians in 1945 felt similarly.
LOL! Combine the elements of christianity, they murderer more people in history than any other group. The rise of VD coincides with the push for christianity and the demand by the moral-less cretins that people should not use condoms, a prophylaxis against disease. RATzinger's plea to the uneducated christians will result in Millions of deaths, like the Crusades, Hitler, and the Salem Witch Trials. religion is the greatest threat to mankind, period. religion = Mental Illness.
Awesome comment to this sick religious Kook. Just look at the gop's debate where these disgusting and Phony "pro-life" religious parasites are applauding the execution of 234 human beings in Texas. They are repulsive and mentally ill, and hardly "moral." Cretins for sure. Thanks for watching too! Be Well!
@mccainisthrough I saw him talk a few weeks back. Before he came on stage I was confused by the jug of water on the table...but lo, when he emerged he was holding a small glass full of what was obviously apple juice. Love it!
It's impossible to stumble when stating fact, especially when one is so articulate, well informed, eloquent, knowledgeable and aware. Hitch digs the grave and gently puts their bodies in it, they covered themselves with the soil. Thanks for watching and commenting too!
Thumbs up for the video. But two thumbs way down on the title and most of the comments which are incredibly shallow, juvenile and crass. This is a serious religious debate. Don't try and turn it into some kind of blood sport.
Thanks, but thumbs down, and here's why. Calling any debate of reality and fantasy (religion), a "serious religious debate," is like calling a debate between whether the numerals 3 and 4 add up to 7 or not, serious. religion has no legs to stand on, never has, it's man-made rubbish. religion needs to fade away forever, it's as primitive as stone tires for your car, in fact, that would be more reasonable, at least they're round. religion's childish superstition, nothing more.
@mccainisthrough Well, that's a pretty immature view of religion (and life) that lacks any nuance. As you grow older you will find there is far more uncertainty in the world than there is certainty. A subject like religion requires subtlety and insight, not brute force and a sledgehammer. In time, and as your world view expands, you will naturally come to realize this. For now you're caught up in the radicalism and hubris of youth. That's OK. But it's just a phase. One day you'll grow out of it.
There's no such thing as an "immature view" of pure childish immaturity. All religions are man-made gibberish and a waste of time. If you buy the hogwash of the bible, book of mormon or other idiotic childish dogma, you're either weak, stupid or mentally ill, and various combinations of the aforementioned. A pathetic hoax like religion needs a chain saw, a body bag,and a deep grave. Our "world view" is fully expanded, your condescension's a laugh, we're older than you kid.
Yes, dinesh is a Moron,no question. Idiocy and fantasy never shake Reality. dinesh is another sad religio-Psychotic who believes virgins give birth and old men with beards live in a cloud. dinesh is as bright as an unborn Yak fetus, only the Yak fetus will become something of value, dinesh won't. Thanks for watching and commenting too!
@mccainisthrough Nice metaphor! Although I think some yaks somewhere are insulted by the mere comparison. Maybe something lower down, like frogspawn, would suffice XD
And in reality, Hitchens, as always, won the debate very easily, as religio-Psychotics never present reasonable points since religion is man-made and offers only more of its unicorn riding fairy tales and pure idiocy, religion should be made illegal. Like Einstein said "It's a detriment to society and the planet." Without religion we would be free to think correctly, rather than be told what to think. religion = Horse Shit. Thanks for watching.
How D'Souza got so far as to "debate" Hitchens is beyond me. IMO, Hitchens greatly diminished his status by picking on such a ridiculously easy target. Made himself look bad.
Putting guys of Hitchens' caliber against guys like D'Souza won't accomplish anything at all. It's like discussing *enter difficult and specialized subject here* with a toddler who can't even speak.
Well put. dinesh has the mentality of a 3 year old, not worth the time to listen to. He's also a pompous ass who can't see his own image in a mirror, metaphorically speaking. Thanks for watching and commenting too!
am i the only one who thinks that dinesh is an idiot? i can't understand all the people seeing some kind of genius in this guy
yes, you can exploit the gaps of modern science and place jesus in there but it doesn't make a lot of sense. but d d's is well known for not giving a shit about that either
No. dinesh is a Moron who couldn't produce an intelligible thought if he tried. He's a nice man, but an abject Moron. Thanks for watching and commenting too. Have a great weekend!
No, krishna was born of the manipulative srila prabhupada, who has all but said he created it for money and women. One of the world's most honest liars. All religion is ghastly idiocy that teaches people to be self-righteous, it's spooky and dangerous. Be Well!

hitchens doesn't argue effectively against christianity because he relies on logic. it's not about logic, it's about faith. maybe i can't prove to you that god exists, but you can't prove to me that he doesn't.
science doesn't explain everything, and it does change (at least our understanding of it) so what is "fact"?
besides, it was a cleric who pioneered the idea of a heliocentric solar system. when galileo came along and repeated the theory, the church didn't have a problem with that.
LOL! The stupidest comment ever. Atheists aren't arguing whether this alleged "god" idiot exists or not, just that the bible and all other man-made fiction is childish superstition, and a "god" is not necessary, at all, and never has been. The church said that the Earth was the center of the Universe for centuries, and burned Scientits to death who said it Was Not the center at all, and the Sun does not orbit the Earth, christian church monkeys said, Wrongly, it does.
Furthermore, there isn't a single shred of proof that there is a "god," however, there is ABUNDANT evidence that every single religious text, dogma, is absolute BS. If this "god's" morals are the ones from the bible, then it is a murderous scumbag that approves of child rape, murder and slavery. The idea of religion is as Einstein said correctly "childish superstition." He and 97% of Scientists are Atheist for a reason, a simple one, we don't believe in childish fiction.
Correct, we never said otherwise. The church, wrongly claimed, that the Earth was the center of the Universe, and the Sun orbited around us. Science always wins, since it's fact, and religion always loses since it's lies and fiction. Thanks!
Truly. Hitchens is careful, thoughtful and extremely logical. dinesh is crazy and irrational, he makes no sense at all. Thanks for watching and commenting too!
I am amused that you throw out a number like 96% and you only give three examples. What about Dr. Francis S. Collins of the Humane Genome Project, what about Galilee? and Kepler, Kischer, Pascal, Newton, Leibnitz, Hutchinson, Herschel, Bell, or James Joule? Hmm this seems to blow a hole in your logic. These men are the FOUNDATION and laid the foundation of what is now modern science. Obviously they had something right. Go back to wikipedia you filth fed swine.
96% of the Royal Academy are Atheist/Agnostic and 97% of the Academy of Sciences are Atheist/Agnostic. You cite people who lived ages ago, when 66% of the Academy of Sciences were religious. But, after 50 years of technology, and reality coming into bloom, any fool can realize that religion's as necessary as wheels on a cow. Your thoughts are prehistoric, and you're a sheep. Go back to your Purina Sheep Chow, you're as bright as a candied yam, only far less useful. Meh ...

Dinesh never loses. I dont know what debates your talking about, but I urge you to look at Hitchens and Dinesh's debate at The Kings College. Hitchens spouts the same stuff, and he gets pinned to the floor by Dinesh. You yourself are incapable of making sound decisions that you have to rely on Hitchens to tell you what to think. Pathetic. At least post the Dinesh's rebuttal. This is so one sided its sickening and embarrassing. Also the editing is retarded and looks ridiculous.
Yes, dinesh is the guy, who routinely gets driven into the ground head first for trying to allege fairy tales are real. Unfortunately for dinesh, there's this sticky little thing known as Reality, or Science, that puts dinesh's idiotic rantings to sleep, permanently. Thanks for watching and the funny comment.
Where is DINESH D'SOUZA''S reply. All you see is Hitchens. When you say he buries him i thought D'Souza would of stood up and had no reply. You only show one side of the story. On the other hand you may be right about him burying D'Souza but there is nothing on this vid to show it. I will have to find the whole debate to see if you are right.
dinesh always loses, he believes in religion, which is always wrong, 100% of the time. dinesh believes there's proof for life after death, there isn't, it's a no-brainer. Anyone who believes in the tooth fairy is either 6, or mentally ill. dinesh believes in the tooth fairy, and he's not 6. Thanks for your comment.
My position concerning God is that of an agnostic. I am convinced that a vivid consciousness of the primary importance of moral principles for the betterment and ennoblement of life does not need the idea of a law-giver, especially a law-giver who works on the basis of reward and punishment.
Albert Einstein in a letter to M. Berkowitz, October 25, 1950
The idea of a personal God is an anthropological concept which I am unable to take seriously. Albert Einstein, to Hoffman and Dukas, 1946
Great video! I'm a huge fan of Hitch and the God is Not Great book...
I've watched many debates with D'nesh and he is clueless...its humouris watching religious representives debating intellegent intellectuals such as Hitch...... because as Dawkins once said the danger with religion is lack of evidence, this is what children learn its okay to make absurd claims with not a shred of proof...
This isn't so much Hitchens burying D'souza as it is D'souza burying himself. A well trained monkey could have quoted the relevant pages in God is not Great, on Socrates etcetera, back at D'souza.
And this, kids, is what happens when you don't do your homework before going to a debate, especially a debate against a non-idiot like Hitchens.
I'm not sure Dinesh "did not do his homework". He's a bit like a Fox news anchor. He throws stupidly blatant lies or distortions of fact on the crowd, hoping that some of that mud sticks.
I would not even call him faithful for certain. When you use lies to defend tall tales, it shows a character I would not trust on even basic claims, even the claim to be a man of faith.
How can you pretend a belief in a just God and openly slash at truth like he does?
dinesh was buried by Hitchens, what are you talking about? dinesh couldn't salvage a single point. dinesh floundered and inevitably was buried in a landslide of his own gibberish. dinesh is bright fellow, but not even close to the level of Hitchens. dinesh has never won a debate on religion, and never will, it's as Einstein said "childish superstition." Yes, it is, and nobody can change that. Hitchens is a brilliant debater, but hardly needs to be to challenge the idiocy of religion.

i mean, when they counted the votes, hitchens lost... even when i supported hitchens and believed that hitchens ideas were relatively better rooted in history compared to dinesh.. chill..
Hahaha ... you're retarded. The only debate where Hitchens didn't UTTERLY destroy the theist was William Lane Craig. I think Hitchens still won that debate but he wasn't at his sharpest. Dinesh looks pitiful in this debate.
Hitchens falls down when his opponent makes psuedoscientific arguments against him. Because Hitchens is not a scientist. He lets the bible slappers get away with a lot of nonsense because he doesn't have the technical knowledge.
What if that muffin was god/s? Gee, now we're driving without a steering wheel, eh?
That's a great experience too. He does seem rather nice, just rather thick. You'd have easily won the debate too. religion relies on fantasy and lies rather than reality and facts, it's hard to imagine even a slight argument for organized religion. We think Sam Harris has the right idea, religion is dangerous to society, not helpful. religions are just way too violent and self righteous to possess any value.
Yes, he doesn't seem like he would be a very religious person, because, well, he's actually really smart... But then again, when your defending talking snakes and invisible people in the sky it's kind of hard to be taken seriously. He seems like he would be on the other side of the argument. I think his speaking skills and ability to make good analogies make up for his lack of a "good" argument.
Thanks for the reminder. About a week ago YouTube had a glitch that set all of our 275 videos to "ratings disabled." We have slowly been returning them to their previous state. Thanks for watching too!
There is no hell, it's a construct of primitive man. Or is that sarcasm? If it wasn't sarcasm, see a psychiatrist immediately. If it was sarcasm, funny.
this is hitchens as he is at his best. masterful, wise, factual, contemplative, measured, calmly stern, and basically impossible to refute. i wish he could be this way all the time. he is such an important and powerful voice. it is a shame that he is sometimes belligerent and speaks with undiscipined abrasiveness and hostility. it detracts from the insight and wisdom his words contain. in this video, he is spectacularly effective.
i am in the sober alcoholics camp, i used to be in the practicing alcoholics camp- drunkenness on booze (and fairy tales) does FEEL better. so does corroboration with nazis rather than facing the firing squad. if that's good enough for you, well what does that say about you?

Scientific method: Make observations, formulate hypothesis, follow the evidence where it leads, test hypothesis, make the conclusion, test conclusion, peer-review, publish work.
ICR method: Make a conclusion, search for the evidence to support conclusion, convolute the evidence by emphasis on gaps in knowledge, fail to support conclusion, fail peer-review, never get published, get laughed at by scientists.

GENETIC INFORMATION COULDN'T HAPPEN BY CHANCE, so it's more logical to believe that genetic similarities between all forms of life are due to a common Designer who designed similar functions for similar purposes. Read my article, WAR AMONG EVOLUTIONISTS!

religion has nearly exhausted its recruitment, and since the population is growing rapidly, and many are becoming educated by Science/Reality, they ignore the childish silliness of religion. Atheism is growing at 105% annually, where christianity is growing at 5% a year, and their new target is Africa, where the pope, an Ex-Nazi, visited last year and told them that "condoms cause AIDS," which won't help his recruitment since it will kill millions.
DrCruel 1 year ago
@DrCruel
US prisons are 66% christians, and POINT 1% Atheists.
mccainisthrough 1 year ago 2
@DrCruel
There's no bigger talking snake!
mccainisthrough 1 year ago 3
@mccainisthrough Christians didn't kill a hundred million people in the last century - and for their own good, no less.
I might add, that the explosion of venereal disease in Africa curiously coincide with the rise of Marxist insurgents there. Not much that condoms can do about violent socialist gangs using the forcible rapes of entire village populations to make ideological points. I suspect German female civilians in 1945 felt similarly.

LOL! Combine the elements of christianity, they murderer more people in history than any other group. Thumbs up for the video. But two thumbs way down on the title and most of the comments which are incredibly shallow, juvenile and crass. This is a serious religious debate. Don't try and turn it into some kind of blood sport.
ThirdFaceofShiva 1 year ago
@ThirdFaceofShiva
Thanks, but thumbs down, and here's why. Calling any debate of reality and fantasy (religion), a "serious religious debate," is like calling a debate between whether the numerals 3 and 4 add up to 7 or not, serious. religion has no legs to stand on, never has, it's man-made rubbish. religion needs to fade away forever, it's as primitive as stone tires for your car, in fact, that would be more reasonable, at least they're round. religion's childish superstition, nothing more.
mccainisthrough 1 year ago 6
@mccainisthrough Well, that's a pretty immature view of religion (and life) that lacks any nuance. As you grow older you will find there is far more uncertainty in the world than there is certainty. A subject like religion requires subtlety and insight, not brute force and a sledgehammer. In time, and as your world view expands, you will naturally come to realize this. For now you're caught up in the radicalism and hubris of youth. That's OK. But it's just a phase. One day you'll grow out of it.
ThirdFaceofShiva 1 year ago
@ThirdFaceofShiva
Our "world view" is fully expanded, your condescension's a laugh, we're older than you kid.

hitchens doesn't argue effectively against christianity because he relies on logic. it's not about logic, it's about faith. maybe i can't prove to you that god exists, but you can't prove to me that he doesn't.
science doesn't explain everything, and it does change (at least our understanding of it) so what is "fact"?
besides, it was a cleric who pioneered the idea of a heliocentric solar system. when galileo came along and repeated the theory, the church didn't have a problem with that.
fartvergnuegen 1 year ago
@fartvergnuegen
LOL! The stupidest comment ever. Atheists aren't arguing whether this alleged "god" idiot exists or not, just that the bible and all other man-made fiction is childish superstition, and a "god" is not necessary, at all, and never has been. The church said that the Earth was the center of the Universe for centuries, and burned Scientits to death who said it Was Not the center at all, and the Sun does not orbit the Earth, christian church monkeys said, Wrongly, it does.
mccainisthrough 1 year ago 3

Furthermore, there isn't a single shred of proof that there is a "god," however, there is ABUNDANT evidence that every single religious text, dogma, is absolute BS.

I think his speaking skills and ability to make good analogies make up for his lack of a "good" argument.

why the disabled ratings?
artyfarty2 2 years ago 2
Thanks for the reminder. About a week ago YouTube had a glitch that set all of our 275 videos to "ratings disabled." We have slowly been returning them to their previous state. Thanks for watching too!

What an ill-conceived rebuttal. The hypocrisy of making appeals to critical thought while displaying none himself, renders him useless.

hitchens is really gonna burn in hell
muckraker100 2 years ago

Well I was once in the atheism camp, but now I'm in the Theism camp, and it feels much better.
