Man, I like this guy (Ray Wilson). He's cool, he's nice, and he has a great voice. I love Genesis, I love Phil Collins, but hack, Ray Wilson has also been a nice frontman! And I really appreciate this version of "Invisible Touch" (but I wouldn't prefer it over the original).

Ray Wilson's such a nice (and talented guy)... I love Genesis with Phil Collins, but I think it's a SHAME for them to not have Ray Wilson played their ,,Live Over Europe" - Tour back in 2007 as supporting act. Collins, Rutherford and Banks ar GREAT musicians, but without any courage, otherwise, they would have let Wilson do that favour.

I will give Ray credit for at least trying, but honestly, he is just terrible here. His voice is just not well suited for a song like this. It's too husky, doesn't have much range, and like others have said, lacks personality. It just gives the whole song a really dull feel. I don't mind him so much on the CAS material, but he doesn't have what Phil had for a lot of the other material.

I think in hindsight it was best for Mike and Tony to call it quits at that point. It would have been an uphill battle to try and keep the band going. They would have to do the album/tour thing like they did in the early 70s to rebuild their reputation but they were just too old for that at that point. I do credit them for going on but it may have gone better if they had called it a Banks-Rutherford project rather than a Genesis one. Not so many expectations would have been demanded of them.

You're exactly right. Whether fans like it or not, this was a short-lived era of Genesis. And yes, I consider it Genesis even though there are lots that do not consider this true Genesis. This was an era that had potential to shift more toward prog rock again and if some people can't at least respect what they were doing, then I can't consider those people true fans. Not saying all Genesis fans need to like the Ray-era, just respect the direction they were trying to go.

@SecretSociety1 Well said! Ray wasn't as good as Phil but this is part of Genesis history. So was Abacab and I reckon that's total CRAP! Saw the show and loved it. Nir Z is an excellent drummer and Ray bring a different dimension to the old songs. Call them cover versions if you like -God knows, everyone does cover versions and sometimes you just have to ask.... "WHY?"

Mike was the one that wanted to go on and Tony was hesitant about it. They picked up Ray to sing, did the tour and after it was over, Tony wanted to keep going with Ray but Mike said they should stop and not risk another album financially sinking. Personally, I would have loved to see them keep going since they could have gone back toward a more prog rock flavor with Ray but we will never know.
