@69millybabe And your point being...? Being your mate somehow makes him better? Don't think so. But that aside. I asked who this guy was cause I've never heard him/of him before. Furthermore, I am not talking about his personality, he may be a nice guy, but frankly I don't care. My curiosity derives from the fact that he sings a song of the band I happen to like, so I comment on his performance, and it wasn't that great to be honest. As for your reply, a little bit more respect wouldn't hurt.
If Phils back wasnt in such bad shape they could do a six man tour and play stuff from all eras even some solo stuff, Peter gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Steve Hacket, and Ray wilson man that would be awesome
Man, I like this guy (Ray Wilson). He's cool, he's nice, and he has a great voice. I love Genesis, I love Phil Collins, but hack, Ray Wilson has also been a nice frontman! And I really appreciate this version of "Invisible Touch" (but I wouldn't prefer it over the original).
@rainsize yeah its a shame he doesnt get the recognition he deserves for his contribution to genesis, and how they cancelled there second album with him, and how they should have let him and his band open for them on there turn it on again tour
Ray Wilson's such a nice (and talented guy)... I love Genesis with Phil Collins, but I think it's a SHAME for them to not have Ray Wilson played their ,,Live Over Europe" - Tour back in 2007 as supporting act. Collins, Rutherford and Banks ar GREAT musicians, but without any courage, otherwise, they would have let Wilson do that favour.
Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, pretty much from every Genesis line-up! It is the others that are new (the singer is Ray Wilson, the drummer is Nir Zadyahu, or whatever it his name was, sorry, and bassist I do not know)
I think Ray Wilson has a good strong Voice hes not Comparable with Phil collins Cause they are absolutely different singers Oo .. but both are great ... hm but i Like Ray wilsons Voice more than the one of Phil collins ... hm matter of taste
Aca falta Phil Collins... Ray Wilson sera buen cantante, pero no va con la banda, hasta me parece algo aburrido sin Phil..., no deja de ser mi banda favorita, pero con Collins a la cabeza.
Even I do love Genesis & Phil Collins (&, of course, Peter Gabriel - he's great as solo artist, but also his Genesis - Works were pretty decent), I have to admit that Ray Wilson seems to be a pretty nice guy with a good voice.
Except I think Gabriel's Genesis works are more than just decent ;) Selling England By The Pound and Nursery Crime are two of the best albums I've ever heard!
Yes, I have, but it wasn't really my cup of tea. I mean, it was good, but not great to me. Please don't get mad, I don't have to love it as much as others do ;)
Just like Pink Floyd's Dark Side is not even in my personal Top 3.
I don't think there's something wrong woth Wilson's voice and his interpetation of Genesis songs. But I don't like this song, they should've stopped playing it live after INvisible Touch tour
Nobody has as voice like phil. It sounds like a cover band, but it doesn't sound bad. Just not the same groove as with Phil. Nobody can replace Phil Collins, nobody can replace Peter Gabriel
did phil not replace pete? read what you wrote! we are all connected to this site cos we like genesis, opinions or not, u cant nock the song writing or playing
I'm with you on that, buddy. Ray is a great singer, and he deserves all the credit he can get. Nothing against Phil or anyone in any way - Phil is an excellent singer and lyricists.
IMO Ray is a good singer, BUT! not for Genesis..So stop bashing the guy just because was offered the job. What would you have done, say no to be part of a band of that caliber? I didn't think so...
i think ray is good, and genesis was a good band with him, live and studio. different than genesis with pete or phil, but good !! and the reunion tour was not good as this gig here !! ok,.the stage looked great, and the set list was great, but there was no dynamic in it,.i`m sorry to say this, cause im a huuuge genesis fan,but the turn it on again tour was boring :-(
I must admit that I purposely let Ray Wilson pass me by. I have never seen any live footage and don't wish to again. Great footage again sadly thats all though.
Despite Wilson's singing, most Genesis fans don't like Wilson. Genesis even went on Hiatus after the "Calling All Stations" album, which was Wilson's album with Genesis.
Maybe they can and will, now that Phil's loss of hearing prevents him from doing a lot of touring. Also, Phil does not to do long tours, as it takes him away from his family. Plus, Peter Gabriel keeps turning down a reunion tour
Genesis will Never tour with wilson again, he is the worst part in genesis history and full of fail. During the reunion tour they didnt even bother asking ray to join them
umm no, i went to each one hoping to find something that is good. I wanted to see if maybe some of his live stuff is better than the studio. Sadly its not, its worse.
I think he said no cause of WOMAD, the big blue project, the Wall-E song, and having a baby were on his plate. Now that he is done with those, maybe Genesis will be on the menu
I will give Ray credit for at least trying, but honestly, he is just terrible here. His voice is just not well suited for a song like this. It's too husky, doesn't have much range, and like others have said, lacks personality. It just gives the whole song a really dull feel. I don't mind him so much on the CAS material, but he doesn't have what Phil had for a lot of the other material.
I think in hindsight it was best for Mike and Tony to call it quits at that point. It would have been an uphill battle to try and keep the band going. They would have to do the album/tour thing like they did in the early 70s to rebuild their reputation but they were just too old for that at that point. I do credit them for going on but it may have gone better if they had called it a Banks-Rutherford project rather than a Genesis one. Not so many expectations would have been demanded of them.
I am starting to be a little bored with all the comments: "Ray is horrible". If you don't like the era, why the hell are you watching these videos? I think I will block all comments really soon...

You're exactly right. Whether fans like it or not, this was a short-lived era of Genesis. And yes, I consider it Genesis even though there are lots that do not consider this true Genesis. This was an era that had potential to shift more toward prog rock again and if some people can't at least respect what they were doing, then I can't consider those people true fans. Not saying all Genesis fans need to like the Ray-era, just respect the direction they were trying to go.
@SecretSociety1 Well said! Ray wasn't as good as Phil but this is part of Genesis history. So was Abacab and I reckon that's total CRAP! Saw the show and loved it. not horrible but definitely not a good song for ray. he even said in interviews that he disliked the song. too much pop for him and it doesn't do his voice justice. not horrible tho. the band still sounds strong and they are havin fun with it on stage.
You've actually got to feel a bit sorry for Ray. Despite his lack of talent as musician and songwriter, his lack of vocal range and his much dated, generic, amateur quality to his voice honestly believes that he is the world's greatest pop idol. His level of arrogance makes it ALMOST funny. Almost, but not quite. Should he be on stage, or in an asylum? If it's the latter, someone may want to call the cops, or the men in white jackets.
