@FionMacCumhail Just every Poll ever taken since the begining. :P Two months ago when i posted this support went from 40 to 20 percent. (OR something like that). Honestly I haven't kept up on the polls since the last two months. BUT when I posted this it was a fact that the polls showed support dropping drastically during the time it started to the that date. I would honestly not know if this is STILL true. But I would place money that it is, or at least has flat lined.
@FionMacCumhail No, I'm just not going to bother going back 3 months and looking at all the polls again from the begining of the election, if you look at some arguments I had around this period you'll see me posting poll results. AND i admit that I have not looked to see if the trend had continued. So as of 2 months ago this was 100% accurate according to ALL major polls. The time this video was posted it was a plain video propaganda lie.
The new single, Anthem of the Working Man, by The 99%, is the theme of the Occupy Wall Street movement. This moody protest song is in the tradition of Simon & Garfunkel's The Boxer and Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone. It explores the widening gap between the ultra-rich and the 99%, and debunks the the theory that, if we make the rich happy, their generosity will trickle down to the rest of us. 'He owns the castle. He owns the hill. You and I, we just pay the bill.'
Gary Johnson is the best presidential candidate for the american people. He has the most logical and ethical economic solutions for this nation as a whole. I ask that you at least research him, and if you do not, if I did know you, I'd have to ask, why are you voting when you do not have all the facts? My question is, what are these protesters proposing as a final solution, are they advocating doing away with capitalism altogether and implementing total socialism here?
@superhornet69 i read thier demands online. The best one is the demand for all loans, national, international and private, to be forgiven immediately. This would crush the banks and make any borrowing impossiable. You think the 2008 crisis was bad? You think its hard to buy a house now? Wait till your workplace can't pay you and all houses have to be purchased with cash because all the banks have folded.
@mrfrednoname ... Hey Fred, you touch on some interesting points. I really do believe, like you, that a major economic collapse is coming in the U.S. My take is that it'll be when the central banks make the switch from the dollar as the world reserve currency to say, the Chinese yuan. That will be the final blow, the kill-shot and then we enter into hyper-inflation here and the dollar won't be worth the paper it's printed on, much like in Germany after WW1.
ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SERIOUS ABOUT HIS MOVEMENT MUST READ THIS. GOOGLE: An open letter and warning from a former tea party movement adherent to the Occupy Wall Street movement. Ummm. Unions own the politicians .Uni ons took bailouts. Unions don't pay taxes because they launder taxpayers monies to purchase political power Also wasn't it Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac that bundled up bad loans and sold them as securities to Wall-Street? Wasn't it the Democrats that defended the mortgage giants in 2003? Isn't it Obama that took large contributions from Wall-Street as well? While the Democrats continue to destroy the economy, Sorros and Buffet are buying out the markets..FOOLS
@talllikelurchis Wow that was one of the dumbest factless things I have read in a while, I hope people don't get sucked up into your vortex of stupidity.
@Verto9999 Factless??? LoL!! Are you one of those retards protesting?? It's fucked up, a bunch of failures, that want Government to control their lives!! Mean-while while George Sorros and Warren Buffet are tag teaming Obama's ass, buying out stock, wiping out competitors, monopolizing the markets......While at the same time using the protesters as tools...... OMG!! They think they are 99%...LoL!! Go one and protest for Communist......see where that will get ya''........You sir are an imbecile!
Just about every College/Uni student is being screwed right now, there, that's their springboard for joining the cause...Show them WHY they're screwed and get them involved. Just about everybody has been raped and plundered by the Medical Industry, Big Pharma and the Insurance Co.s, and these aren't small things, create awareness...If every American knew what was really going on in the shadows and behind the scenes, they would realize how far we've fallen and why, because of who and they'd fight
their voices heard in any arena they see fit. Small Businesses can rally together and begin demanding changes at the local levels (Small bus.'s make up about 2/3 of our employment), Every worker who's been screwed out of their retirement or 401K can do any number of things, the list is endless and we've all been taking it up the rear and ALLOWING them to do so, they've simply laughed all the way to the bank. There's probably 10,000 angles to fight this corruption if we all choose to stand up.
WE WANT: Democracy, Justice, Equality, Peace, Tranquility, Honesty, Sustainability, Diversity, Cooperation, Courage, Compassion, Charity, Love, Trust, Strength, Good Citizens, Clean, healthy food & water environment four ourse lves and our postarity and Government and the END to the "Wall Street Corporate Marauders" and Corrupt Government along with Oversight, Transparency and Accountability in Government?
@TOTCD What are your goals & asperations, do they include Democracy, Justice, Equality, Peace, Honesty, Tranquility, Sustainability, Diversity, Cooperation, Courage, Compassion, Charity, Love, Trust, Strength, Good Citizens, Clean, healthy food & water environment four ourse lves and our postarity and Government and the END to the "Wall Street Corporate Marauders" and Corrupt Government along with Oversight, Transparency and Accountability in Government?
It is not just college students. How can they put people down like that? I'm 32, Tea Partier, and I agree with what the protesters overall want- smaller government, less taxes, outlaw Wall Street, transparency, etc. Is that really their defense to call them a bunch of smelly hippies? Lame...I'm ashamed that FOX news even paints them like that and I wrote to them and complained.
@Partyffs its not too little too late, its working. If we fight violence with violence it will just accelerate the police state. Imagine it "Guns outlawed after internal terrorist attacks by small radical groups". The media called these peaceful protesters 'hippies' and laughed at them. IMAGINE what they would have called them if there was any violence.
@Partyffs Instead of a defeaqtist attitude, if EVERYBODY figured out a way to help fix the major problems in the USA, there would be absolutely no stopping this movement, not everybody can or has to physically protest although I think everybody who can, should. Anybody can call Fox/CNN et al. and voice their dissatisfaction with both the black-out and the BS they're spewing, people can boycott certain Corps, pull their money out of corrupt banks so they can't loan out 9 times that amount, make
This country has to resolve the gap between rich and poor or these protests will only get larger and stronger. Take this statistic for example:
From 1972-2001, the bottom 50% earners saw life expectancy at 60 increase by 1.9 years. For the top 50%, it increased 6.5 years. Yet the wealthy are now spending more money than ever to corrupt the system, because they want that difference to be even wider in the future. At what point do we ditch Ayn Rand capitalism and become human?
There are still all white country clubs and gated communities in this day and age
There are still people that wouldn't want blacks, hispanics, gays etc
You assume that it's just about race
But gay people, the disabled etc face housing discrimination
Telling banks that money has to be treated blindly and that latino money equals gay money equals white money prevents banking corruption not enables it
QUOTE FROM A NATO OFFICER ABOUT LIBYA.....SPREAD
>some of us are encouraging our boys to refuse orders to bomb civilian targets; we have had enough” He continued: “Always the same lies, in WWI they said that the troops will be home by Christmas, and you know what happened”. Some Canadian and French pilots have followed the encouragement and denied to bomb more civilian targets.
NO MERCY FOR WAR CRIMINALS ! IMPEACH OBAMA NOW !!!!
or did you not notice that the same politicians that said we didnt' have enough money for medicare and social security and heating for the poor and all these other programs to help regular citizens also OPPOSED any attempt to curb corporate welfare.
You know what's interesting? Looking at the voting results for the "Economic Stabilization Act of 2008" AKA the Wall-Street bailout... Democrats voted 172-Yes vs 61-No and Republicans voted 91-Yes vs 108-No. So you must think that the Republicans are the ones for medicare and helping the poor and the Democrats are the corporate puppets, right?
@thegillotine09 why should that be surprising. the GOP knew the damage had already been done. The Dems were scared that the collapse of wall street would lead to the collapse of the entire economy.
The GOP could just sit back and let the Dems take the blame for at he fall out. Indeed they used their opposition to weaken the bills.
BUT what is actually interesting is who supported the legislation that helped lead to that collapse.
Now can we get back to what were talking about before?
@schizotypalgrasp The wording that has you tripped up is "source of income discrimination"
Like I keep saying, source of income discrimination isn't "Give mansions to the poor"
It's an anti discrimination law that says that if a guy wants a mortgage and makes 25k a year, that 25 k can be off of investments, social security, wages, dividends, the only thing that matters is that it's 25 k a year
Even then I think less than half of the states even have that

They were told to ignore race, religion, orientation, origin
They had to treat a black customer that fulfilled the terms equally to a white one equally to an asian equally to a sikh equally to a hindu equally to a transexual
They couldn't say "Oh god! Two dudes who fuck each other want a house! No way queer!" or "I won't sell to beaners"
The only thing they were allowed to take into account was ability to pay
@schizotypalgrasp Some Credit card cos have been charging interest on the principle that theyve paid off
Like if I had 500 debt, but I paid off 300 last billing then they charge interest on the 500 not the 200 remaining
The exploding interest in credit cards and mortgages isn't the fault of the customer, it isn't an accident or an unexpected misfortune the customers suffer
They're part of the predatory financial products banks knowingly pushed
@schizotypalgrasp Bank execs have been arbitrarily changing when mortgages/bills are to be paid, they do it without warning and even lie about the date
They lie about renegotiating the terms about the mortgage and keep people paying even though the bank plans on foreclosing anyway
The common person holds NO responsibility, the only blame is on the heads of the bankers and the people that created crap financial products
@schizotypalgrasp Like I said, you can't blame the FHA or CRA for it
There are memos and employees testifying about the corrupt business practices of the banks
A bank exec saying someone who qualifies for a fixed rate loan of X.X % should be pushed onto a subprime loan with exploding interest and lied into doing it is the one at fault, not the customers
If the customer is defrauded then the customer doesn't hold any blame and they hold no responsibility
There are people who have bank accounts that are getting reamed by penalties that they didn't know were possible
A few years back I was in financial purgatory
I had either a BoA or citi account that I only kept a small sum in
I got a penalty for having less than a certain amount, I got penalized 10 dollars more than what I had in it, then they said I was overdrawn, they fiddled with when I had to pay
I wound up owing over a hundred dollars out of the blue
Ballbusting is a form of CBT in which a man is kicked in the testicles. In addition to its occasional role in BDSM pornography, Tamakeri (玉蹴り)(lit. ball kicking) is a separate genre in Japan. One notable actress in tamakeri is Erika Nagai, who typically uses her martial arts skills to knee or kick men in the testicles.
@schizotypalgrasp The people in the media that lie about the fair housing act, CRA etc lie because they want to shift blame from greedy wall streeters to acts that helps minorities, racial minorities sexual minorities and the disabled
It shifts the blame from the powerful on wall street to the powerless
Even if you aren't racist you're still buying into the talking point that banks and sellers having to treat all customers equally is the problem not out of control banker/wall st greed
In addition to california outlawing SOURCE OF income discrimination, there are a handful of other states that outlaw SOURCE OF income discrimination, but apparently nothing on the federal level
You made it sound like outlawing source of income discrimination forced banks to give mortgages to the poor.
The only thing it did was make banks treat all sources of income equally
Someone making 50k a year makes 50k, you discriminate against the source
people getting loans for houses had NOTHING to do with bailouts. You damn morons. Did you know these joos have drummed up 1500 trillion worth of derivatives they've already gambled on. They are going to pin all this on the american public. This is all lying wallstreet. which the media got a bailout too, it's called bribery you dumb bastards. Why won't Chink say this. Chenk was for the bailouts.

I can't seem to find where it says that income is a protected class when it comes to the fair housing act
So far the only protected classes I can find are race, color, religion and national origin.
California does prevent discrimination on source of income (stocks, social security, wages etc) but I can't find info on other states that protect that
FHA investigators call as people of different races, if the person treats them differently they get penalized

Wall street is the real concentration of power in America. The politicians work for them. The cops work for them. If they feel seriously threatened I'm afraid it could get really ugly. Maybe that is what is needed to get the apathetic majority fired up about his shit - some martyrs. Unfortunately.
In the 1960's when the country faultered, young people came forward, in mass, to protest the status quo. Is that happening now? Are people finally waking up? Someone please say it is so.
Some countries use violence to solve their problems. The US makes a point by using their damn rights given to us by the founders. I support this movement and those brain dead rich bastards in Washington who want to cut the rich and tax the poor can kiss my white ass.
@TheForeverRanger Crony capitalism is part and parcel of big government. A massive federal govt will always shovel money towards the rich - to scream at Wall St is nonsense. People who support a big and powerful government shouldn't act suprised when it gets corrupted - that'll happen every time. Tinkering with the rules treats the symptoms, not the disease. End The Fed.
@megagagnon1 as I have ben explaining to another here, the problem with that is that corporations happily get money shoveled to them & harm the public good when there's small gov as well.
It makes very little difference to them. Indeed, "small government" is just a PR thing to get people to accept a certain meme without actually bothering to think about it.
The Gilded age had a much smaller gov then we do now. And corporations still had plenty of money & power in the gov.
@booley Multinational corporations fight hard for bigger govt - it serves their interests in two ways. A bigger govt, especially on the federal level, makes it much easier to get more public funds funnelel to them. And it enables big business to write the regulations - regulations designed to cripple small businesses so big business can get a bigger piece of the pie. Yes, corps had plenty of money during the guilded age, but relatively speaking less public money funneled their way.
@megagagnon1 iF they fight so hard for bigger gov then why do they give millions to think tanks & politicans who advocate for smaller gov?
here's 2 ways smaller gov serves thier interests.
1. It makes for fewer regs & weaker enforcement so they can do whatever they want.
2. When gov service shrinks, corporations fill the vacuum which funnels money to them. That's how Boeing started writing welfare checks & the military dependent on Haliburton.
@booley "That's the problem with big vs small gov meme. No one considers what part of gov is getting shrunk and what that means."Ron Paul libertarians know exactly what part of the govt is getting shrunk - the federal govt. States can take care of most things within their state. The problem with the big govt supporters is they rabidly protect a big federal govt, though invariably they know very little about how the govt functions, what the various depts are supposed to do and what they actu. do
The CRA was a law that said that the only thing they are allowed to consider in giving out loans is credit ratings and financial information and not race
So take your blame blackie shit to redstate so the other klan members can polish each others pistols while reading it
@schizotypalgrasp Lets see, they created financial products, pushed the financial products onto gullible people, the financial products were sold to pension funds and local governments
Then the bank ceos cashed out, the world economy went belly up and now the only people with rising incomes are the rich
The investor class caused this, it's their fault and they should hang for it
It's finally starting. Don't listen to the news media! They won't cover their own downfall. 300 million people of the US vs 32 rich elite. Guess who will win? It's coming!
Fact is most of wall street heads are IN the Obama administration, or fund his elections/ goals.I doubt the average protester will have much sympathy or respect for the Unions that plan to join the protest.Seems the Unions are one in the same, bail-out collectors.Unions got a pass on Obama care, Pelosi's district too.Postal service was Obama's MODEL for government success. We all know how that is turning out!Maybe some Solyndra execs can get in on the protest too!Uncle Obama has deep pockets!
It's not that there are direct payoffs to politicians, other than to campaigns, but that the politicians have blind trusts, trusts where what is traded is the decision of the Wall Street Rep. Guess who gets the inside information to trade on. You got it, the Rep. The heads of the firms are also Reps, they have to be, and what accounts do the handle, you got it, the politicians. One butt wipes the other.
The U.S. government forcibly robs the taxpayers, then pays off their friends in Wall Street. Then a bunch of people decide to go protest the Wall Street people while simultaneously lobbying to increase the power of the U.S. government. Does this seem strange to anyone else?
Wall Street pays off politicians in the US gov. Who then slant the rules or just get rid of the rules to benefit Wall street. A weak gov is perfect for wall street. It's why they pays for politicians & even tea party groups who advocate deregulation & privatization . Then there's no one who can stop wall street from doing whatever they want.
Bit or small gov is a boondoggle. It's what the gov is doing that matters.
Assume you hire a security guard. A bunch of lowlifes are out on the street begging for handouts. The security guard takes half your possessions and gives them to the lowlifes. Who do you get mad at, the people asking for handouts or the people you trusted who stole your possessions and gave them to the people asking for handouts?
@thegillotine09 ok well lets make that scenerio a bit more in line with reality.
The Security guards you hired are from a company owned by the low lifes.
No matter what security guards I hire, chances are 9 out of ten will come from this company owned by the low lifes. Indeed, most cant' become security guards unless they work for these low lifes as well.
Though you seem to have missed my point. Bought politicians (or guards) are the symptom.
Well it looks like we just have a difference of opinion on who is worse: people who abuse power or people who take advantage of people who abuse power. My preferred solution: take away the power. Michael Moore's solution: give the people who abuse power more power and tell them not to abuse it.
@thegillotine09 That's where you lose people who believe in political action (the initiation of force); whatever their affiliation. They want people to have the 'legitimate' power to take from others, to give to them. They just don't want others to have the 'legitimate power to take from them.
This is when they all start throwing their hissy fits, completely oblivious to their hypocrisy.
@thegillotine09 No, we differ on the cause and the solution.
making gov weaker won't stop politicians from being bought or gaming the system until it collapses. It in fact HELPS those who wish to to do by getting rid of the laws & enforcement that would have stopped them.
In other words the people who agree with your solution are the same "lowlifes" that are stealing from you.
That's why they spent so many millions to make it happen
@thegillotine09 No, we differ on the cause and the solution.
making gov weaker won't stop politicians from being bought or gaming the system until it collapses. It in fact HELPS those who wish to to do by getting rid of the laws & enforcement that would have stopped them.
In other words the people who agree with your solution are the same "lowlifes" that are stealing from you.
That's why they spent so many millions to make it happen
Major corporations spent millions weakening or destroying the rules that would keep them getting so big and so powerful and so greedy that when it all collapsed, bailing them out seemed the only the way to save everyone.
And those millions also helped make sure that when they were bailed out they suffered no repercussions, no restrictions on what they could do with the tax payer money they got, not even new rules that would keep all of this from happening again.
@thegillotine09 Glass steagal, the consumer protection bureau, when Democrats wanted to restrict what the bail outs could be used for (as in NOT for exec bonuses), taxing derivatives... plenty more examples for anyone who can look.
The point is any law that would restrict wal street gets opposed by them through lobbying.
But why do I feel that you don't actually care about any of that?
Pardon but you seem to be basing your counter arguments on obtuseness.
@thegillotine09 so why don't you explain to me how weakening the watch dogs that are supposed to keep corporations in check is supposed to make them less likely to recommit their fraud?
And if corporations are so afraid of weakened government power, then why do they fund millions into think tanks and politicians that work to weaken government power to control corporations?
@booley Glass Steagal and the consumer protection bureau have existed and apparently haven't done much to prevent these problems. Restricting what the bailout money could be used for wouldn't have prevented them from giving bonuses.
Major corporations are afraid of weakened government power. As a special interest group (like unions) they want government restrictions loosened only in certain areas whilst keeping the benefits to themselves.
@thegillotine09 Glass steagell was repealed in 1999 after again, banking interests spent millions to lobby for it's repeal..
The Consumer Protection Bureau was only passed late of late last year. Not only have corporate sponsored republicans blocked any potential head to the agency, they also won't fund it.
You seem somewhat under informed.
Corporations are not afraid of weakened gov power. They simply move into the power vacuum.
It's a pretty easy case to make. If you're complaining about the government stealing billions from the taxpayers and giving it to corporations, just keep the government from stealing billions from the taxpayers.
@thegillotine09 You didn't make your case. You just posted a sound bite.
Corporations can use gov to take money from tax payers but they aren't dependent on it to do so. Corporations can gouge tax payers just fine on thier own. They just need gov to not stand in their way.
Indeed, one big effect of the "starve government" policy is that as gov services become less, we become more dependent on private corporations who bleed us dry.
@thegillotine09 I understand the 500 char limit hinders things but that wasnt' what bothered abotu yoru statement.
anyway..
if you depend on a corporations services and they are screwing you, what are you supposed to do?
I mean your question ignores that people are dependent on certain gov services. and when gov in unable to do them anymore corporations move into that vacuum. and then proceed to bleed you dry.
Right, the corporations "bleed you dry" while the government only murders hundreds of thousands and imprisons a million nonviolent criminals.
If I depend on a service and I have a choice between two groups to provide the service: one that the worst they can do to me is stop trading with me and the other that claims the right to kill me. Which do you think I'd prefer dealing with?
@thegillotine09 when corporations can kill people and poison entire eco-systems causing untold more deaths and is only expected to pay a fine which they can then get reduced to nothing, your distinction has as much gravitas as you think.
And as I said, as gov becomes weaker, corps pour in money to control that gov so they can pass laws that make them more money.
Those millions of non violent criminals have be housed. There is an entire private prison industry waiting to do just that.
@thegillotine09 I mean seriously I get your argument. I hear it all the time. But you dont' seem to get mine.
I dont' have to defend the Democrats (who corporations also pay lot s of money too) or claim that gov can do no wrong to show that corporations like it when the government is too weak to stand in their way.
It's not big or small gov. That's a straw man and a sound bite. It's who the gov serves.
@thegillotine09 You know that the corporations literally own and operate the government. You need to be untrained. It is NOT ok to hate government and trust corporations.
@Teremei ironically I dont' think he's saying trust corporations.
But somehow he thinks if we shrink gov power (and by that they always mean the power of government to regulate wall street.) that it will hurt corporations.
You have to admit the top 1% are brilliant at marketing. They have people thinking if they do what the corporations want, then that will hurt the corporations.
I'm not interested in hurting or helping corporations, I want to promote a nonviolent society. Between government and corporations, government is the entity that claims the right to promote violence.

My question is, what are these protesters proposing as a final solution, are they advocating doing away with capitalism altogether and implementing total socialism here?
superhornet69 4 months ago
@superhornet69 i read thier demands online. The best one is the demand for all loans, national, international and private, to be forgiven immediately. This would crush the banks and make any borrowing impossiable. You think the 2008 crisis was bad? You think its hard to buy a house now? Wait till your workplace can't pay you and all houses have to be purchased with cash because all the banks have folded.
mrfrednoname 4 months ago
@mrfrednoname ... Hey Fred, you touch on some interesting points. I really do believe, like you, that a major economic collapse is coming in the U.S. My take is that it'll be when the central banks make the switch from the dollar as the world reserve currency to say, the Chinese yuan. That will be the final blow, the kill-shot and then we enter into hyper-inflation here and the dollar won't be worth the paper it's printed on, much like in Germany after WW1.

You really think racism is dead?
There are still all white country clubs and gated communities in this day and age
There are still people that wouldn't want blacks, hispanics, gays etc

But gay people, the disabled etc face housing discrimination

You know what's interesting? Looking at the voting results for the "Economic Stabilization Act of 2008" AKA the Wall-Street bailout... Democrats voted 172-Yes vs 61-No and Republicans voted 91-Yes vs 108-No. So you must think that the Republicans are the ones for medicare and helping the poor and the Democrats are the corporate puppets, right?
thegillotine09 5 months ago

@schizotypalgrasp Income and ability to pay weren't in it
They were told to ignore race, religion, orientation, origin
They had to treat a black customer that fulfilled the terms equally to a white one equally to an asian equally to a sikh equally to a hindu equally to a transexual
They couldn't say "Oh god! Two dudes who fuck each other want a house! No way queer!" or "I won't sell to beaners"
The only thing they were allowed to take into account was ability to pay
dffykvn 5 months ago
@schizotypalgrasp Some Credit card cos have been charging interest on the principle that theyve paid off
Like if I had 500 debt, but I paid off 300 last billing then they charge interest on the 500 not the 200 remaining
The exploding interest in credit cards and mortgages isn't the fault of the customer, it isn't an accident or an unexpected misfortune the customers suffer
They're part of the predatory financial products banks knowingly pushed
Customers have been duped by shortsighted crooks
dffykvn 5 months ago
@schizotypalgrasp Bank execs have been arbitrarily changing when mortgages/bills are to be paid, they do it without warning and even lie about the date
They lie about renegotiating the terms about the mortgage and keep people paying even though the bank plans on foreclosing anyway
The common person holds NO responsibility, the only blame is on the heads of the bankers and the people that created crap financial products
dffykvn 5 months ago
@schizotypalgrasp Like I said, you can't blame the FHA or CRA for it
There are memos and employees testifying about the corrupt business practices of the banks
A bank exec saying someone who qualifies for a fixed rate loan of X.X % should be pushed onto a subprime loan with exploding interest and lied into doing it is the one at fault, not the customers
If the customer is defrauded then the customer doesn't hold any blame and they hold no responsibility
dffykvn 5 months ago
@schizotypalgr Thats the problem

@schizotypalgrasp The people in the media that lie about the fair housing act, CRA etc lie because they want to shift blame from greedy wall streeters to acts that helps minorities, racial minorities sexual minorities and the disabled
It shifts the blame from the powerful on wall street to the powerless
Even if you aren't racist you're still buying into the talking point that banks and sellers having to treat all customers equally is the problem not out of control banker/wall st greed
dffykvn 5 months ago
@schizotypalgrasp You should research the act
In addition to california outlawing SOURCE OF income discrimination, there are a handful of other states that outlaw SOURCE OF income discrimination, but apparently nothing on the federal level
You made it sound like outlawing source of income discrimination forced banks to give mortgages to the poor.
The only thing it did was make banks treat all sources of income equally
Someone making 50k a year makes 50k, you discriminate against the source
dffykvn 5 months ago
@schizotypalgrasp I'll say it again
The only protected classes are the disabled, sexual identity, race, color, origin, ethnicity
The way the act worked is that investigators call, pretend to be a white guy, pretend to be a black guy, a gay guy etc
If enough attempts to buy are blocked from one category but the others are all ok'd then theres a fine
The only that the act does is make it illegal to discriminate against those classes, it doesn't force people to hand over homes to the creditless

End The Fed.
megagagnon1 5 months ago
@megagagnon1 as I have ben explaining to another here, the problem with that is that corporations happily get money shoveled to them & harm the public good when there's small gov as well.
It makes very little difference to them. Indeed, "small government" is just a PR thing to get people to accept a certain meme without actually bothering to think about it.
The Gilded age had a much smaller gov then we do now. And corporations still had plenty of money & power in the gov.
booley 5 months ago
@booley Multinational corporations fight hard for bigger govt - it serves their interests in two ways. A bigger govt, especially on the federal level, makes it much easier to get more public funds funnelel to them. And it enables big business to write the regulations - regulations designed to cripple small businesses so big business can get a bigger piece of the pie. Yes, corps had plenty of money during the guilded age, but relatively speaking less public money funneled their way.
megagagnon1 5 months ago
@megagagnon1 iF they fight so hard for bigger gov then why do they give millions to think tanks & politicans who advocate for smaller gov?
here's 2 ways smaller gov serves thier interests.
1. It makes for fewer regs & weaker enforcement so they can do whatever they want.
2. When gov service shrinks, corporations fill the vacuum which funnels money to them. That's how Boeing started writing welfare checks & the military dependent on Haliburton.
booley 4 months ago
@megagagnon1 and in the gilded age, apparently companies still had enough influence to get the gov to gun down strikers on their behalf.
& in the case of company towns, the company WAS the government for all practical purposes.
Plenty of public resources were given to private individuals for their wealth. Or the gov just stood back while companies took it directly.
That's the problem with big vs small gov meme. No one considers what part of gov is getting shrunk and what that means.
booley 4 months ago
@booley "That's the problem with big vs small gov meme. No one considers what part of gov is getting shrunk and what that means."Ron Paul libertarians know exactly what part of the govt is getting shrunk - the federal govt. States can take care of most things within their state. The problem with the big govt supporters is they rabidly protect a big federal govt, though invariably they know very little about how the govt functions, what the various depts are supposed to do and what they actu. do

The U.S. government forcibly robs the taxpayers, then pays off their friends in Wall Street. Then a bunch of people decide to go protest the Wall Street people while simultaneously lobbying to increase the power of the U.S. government. Does this seem strange to anyone else?
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 you sorta have it but it's a bit backward.

@booley
Assume you hire a security guard. A bunch of lowlifes are out on the street begging for handouts. The security guard takes half your possessions and gives them to the lowlifes. Who do you get mad at, the people asking for handouts or the people you trusted who stole your possessions and gave them to the people asking for handouts?
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 ok well lets make that scenerio a bit more in line with reality.
The Security guards you hired are from a company owned by the low lifes.
No matter what security guards I hire, chances are 9 out of ten will come from this company owned by the low lifes. Indeed, most cant' become security guards unless they work for these low lifes as well.
Though you seem to have missed my point. Bought politicians (or guards) are the symptom.

@booley
Well it looks like we just have a difference of opinion on who is worse: people who abuse power or people who take advantage of people who abuse power. My preferred solution: take away the power. Michael Moore's solution: give the people who abuse power more power and tell them not to abuse it.
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 That's where you lose people who believe in political action (the initiation of force); whatever their affiliation. They want people to have the 'legitimate' power to take from others, to give to them. They just don't want others to have the 'legitimate power to take from them.
This is when they all start throwing their hissy fits, completely oblivious to their hypocrisy.
UtubeMyAccountName 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 No, we differ on the cause and the solution.
making gov weaker won't stop politicians from being bought or gaming the system until it collapses. It in fact HELPS those who wish to to do by getting rid of the laws & enforcement that would have stopped them.
In other words the people who agree with your solution are the same "lowlifes" that are stealing from you.
That's why they spent so many millions to make it happen

@booley
Major corporations spent many millions to keep the government from having the power to bail out major corporations?
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09
Major corporations spent millions weakening or destroying the rules that would keep them getting so big and so powerful and so greedy that when it all collapsed, bailing them out seemed the only the way to save everyone.
And those millions also helped make sure that when they were bailed out they suffered no repercussions, no restrictions on what they could do with the tax payer money they got, not even new rules that would keep all of this from happening again.
booley 5 months ago
@booley
Give me an example of a rule you think would keep "all of this" from happening again.
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 Glass steagal, the consumer protection bureau, when Democrats wanted to restrict what the bail outs could be used for (as in NOT for exec bonuses), taxing derivatives... plenty more examples for anyone who can look.
The point is any law that would restrict wal street gets opposed by them through lobbying.
But why do I feel that you don't actually care about any of that?
Pardon but you seem to be basing your counter arguments on obtuseness.
booley 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 so why don't you explain to me how weakening the watch dogs that are supposed to keep corporations in check is supposed to make them less likely to recommit their fraud?
And if corporations are so afraid of weakened government power, then why do they fund millions into think tanks and politicians that work to weaken government power to control corporations?
I've made my case. You should make yours now.
booley 5 months ago
@booley Glass Steagal and the consumer protection bureau have existed and apparently haven't done much to prevent these problems. Restricting what the bailout money could be used for wouldn't have prevented them from giving bonuses.
Major corporations are afraid of weakened government power. As a special interest group (like unions) they want government restrictions loosened only in certain areas whilst keeping the benefits to themselves.
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 Glass steagell was repealed in 1999 after again, banking interests spent millions to lobby for it's repeal..
The Consumer Protection Bureau was only passed late of late last year. Not only have corporate sponsored republicans blocked any potential head to the agency, they also won't fund it.
You seem somewhat under informed.
Corporations are not afraid of weakened gov power. They simply move into the power vacuum.
booley 5 months ago
@booley
It's a pretty easy case to make. If you're complaining about the government stealing billions from the taxpayers and giving it to corporations, just keep the government from stealing billions from the taxpayers.
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 You didn't make your case. You just posted a sound bite.
Corporations can use gov to take money from tax payers but they aren't dependent on it to do so. Corporations can gouge tax payers just fine on thier own. They just need gov to not stand in their way.
Indeed, one big effect of the "starve government" policy is that as gov services become less, we become more dependent on private corporations who bleed us dry.
booley 5 months ago
@booley
500 character limit produces soundbyte responses, sorry.
If you don't buy a corporation's service, what do they do to you?
If you don't buy a government service, what do they do to you?
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 I understand the 500 char limit hinders things but that wasnt' what bothered abotu yoru statement.
anyway..
if you depend on a corporations services and they are screwing you, what are you supposed to do?
I mean your question ignores that people are dependent on certain gov services. and when gov in unable to do them anymore corporations move into that vacuum. and then proceed to bleed you dry.
Small gov in no way hinders corporations.
That's what we're talking about here.
booley 5 months ago
@booley
Which do you think I'd prefer dealing with?
thegillotine09 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 when corporations can kill people and poison entire eco-systems causing untold more deaths and is only expected to pay a fine which they can then get reduced to nothing, your distinction has as much gravitas as you think.
And as I said, as gov becomes weaker, corps pour in money to control that gov so they can pass laws that make them more money.
Those millions of non violent criminals have be housed. There is an entire private prison industry waiting to do just that.
booley 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 I mean seriously I get your argument. I hear it all the time. But you dont' seem to get mine.
I dont' have to defend the Democrats (who corporations also pay lot s of money too) or claim that gov can do no wrong to show that corporations like it when the government is too weak to stand in their way.
It's not big or small gov. That's a straw man and a sound bite. It's who the gov serves.
booley 5 months ago
@thegillotine09 You know that the corporations literally own and operate the government. You need to be untrained. It is NOT ok to hate government and trust corporations.
Teremei 5 months ago
@Teremei ironically I dont' think he's saying trust corporations.
But somehow he thinks if we shrink gov power (and by that they always mean the power of government to regulate wall street.) that it will hurt corporations.
You have to admit the top 1% are brilliant at marketing. They have people thinking if they do what the corporations want, then that will hurt the corporations.
booley 5 months ago
@booley
I'm not interested in hurting or helping corporations, I want to promote a nonviolent society. Between government and corporations, government is the entity that claims the right to promote violence.
