The epitome of the same Sammy mediocrity that dragged Van Halen down to Van Hagar. The only thing worse than Sammy writing insipid lyrics and singing in his generic rock style about nothing, is Sammy singing his insipid lyrics "with a message".
@Ariel62073 Chickenfoot's manager, Carter, urged Sammy Hagar to come up with a song that described people's struggles to look for work. Hagar was at first resistant, saying the idea "sounds country". Carter was dying of cancer at the time (he passed away May 10, 2011 before this album could be completed), and it was one of his last requests, so the band honored his wishes with this song.
@luv24real A manager tries to get his band "sold" to the public. Why? Because a pop band in the modern world is trying to make money. A song written by rich musicians about the plight of the poor is ridiculous when one figures that, by singing and selling the song, the rich musicians will make more money, while the poor the musicians sing about will still be poor.
This is called exploiting a social issue for personal gain. It's quite selfish, totally in line with human nature.
@Ariel62073 Compassion is also in line with human nature, and the band makes sure to place an announcement for Food Bank at the end of the video, urging people to help. Surely there's nothing wrong with that? And all the band members here donate to charitable causes. As for exploiting an issue for personal gain, Chickenfoot hasn't even made this song a single, just made the video to shed light on the fact that many people out of work aren't lazy bums, just trapped by circumstance.
@luv24real When people are making money, you can't trust their "higher motives." When they devote all proceeds from this song to the poor, THEN I won't think of these musicians as selfish opportunists.
@Ariel62073 People don't necessarily lack all higher motives just because they make money. Even if the band donated all the proceeds from the sale of this song to charities for the poor, there could always be people that would say the band is just doing it for publicity. And what the band IS publicizing is that there are many deserving people who want to work, and that donating to the Food Bank is one way to help them survive. That may do more good than proceeds from the tune.
@Ariel62073 Is it wrong to write songs about betrayal, loneliness, alcoholism, personal tragedy, heartbreak, scandal, drug abuse, and unfortunate turns of circumstance? Because when artists write songs about these terrible social subjects, they are relying on peoples' emotions relating to those songs and then buying them. Song subjects shouldn't be limited to love, ambition, sex, pride, fast cars, sunshine and rainbows. Songs can reflect life's difficulties; that's not wrong.
@luv24real Context is very important regarding writing songs in those areas. How is the song written, for what purpose, and who gets the proceeds. Spreading information and awareness about problems is a positive. But businesses are there for making money. So, my question concerning "issues-art" is: where is the money going?
@Ariel62073 As I said, the members of Chickenfoot have donated to charity, and done charity events. Who made the rule that no band can write a song about a troubling social issue unless all proceeds from the song go to a charity dealing with that issue? So, no one can write a song about alcoholic situations unless proceeds of that song's sales go directly to AA? No one can write songs about heartbreak lonliness, betrayal, drugs, etc. unless proceeds all go to counseling services?
"Spreading information and awareness about problems is a positive."
We agree on this, at least. And this song and video emphatically point out that not all people out of work are just parasitic bums trying to game the system, but people truly down on their luck that are willing to work again if given a chance. This is important, because there are well-off people that try to discourage help for the unemployed and underemployed by characterizing all such people as "azy.

And to think GW was voted in TWICE by dumbass republicans !!!
Say what you will but this country was in decent shape when Clinton ran the show.... PERIOD
Because I didn't vote in these past presidential elections, I got no job since 1 1/2 years but, of course Obama is worst the George Bush way worst. I need a job. Thanks guys for the song.
If Bush was doing such a dismal job how come B.H.O. hasn't changed any policies??? Yep! Bush Sucked! I thought Barry was going to change things up? Yep he has! He just cut taxes! YeeHah!!! Oh wait a sec.! He's just extending one of G.W.'s policies! Hmmm I was kinda hoping that change wouldn't suck!
Guys, really? With all the power in your band and this is what you come up with? Bullshit! You should be writing songs that have something to say and make people listen. Rage Against the Machine-I just heard one of their songs and thought they are angry. Do you guys even know or care about why America is quickly becoming the land of injustice? Sammy watch "Inside Job" then write a song about it please.
I agree! Your OP gave the impression that those without a job could "just" create their own - which is not always possible. There are many factors that decide the success or failure of any enterprise, and most people just don't have it in them to drive their own business - thus are available as a work force for those that are. Capitalism has given us extraordinary benefits, but there is a certain amount of "loss" in any system. In this case the jobless are the losers. :-(
It has the feeling and for some people it can be a nice message, but it has a problem, people only learn to look for a "job", to work for other people, and they don´t learn to be entrepreneurs and be responsible for themselves. I like the philantropic side of it but one thing to notice: if you give money to a poor person, you are only letting them being poor for longer. From my part: I dont need a job, I wouldnt be doing much with one. Any questions, you can reach me.
@stejam58 And you are right indeed, any company needs employees and for that matter yes, you can have a job and you have the right to ask for one, to provide jobs we need companies and thats when entrepreneurs appear. So with that said, in the lack of one, you need more of the other right? so yes we need more entrepreneurers, still there are plenty of ways to do stuff, not only creating a big bussiness, you can enter a network marketing company as a seller for example.
Sammy's been singing about fast cars, hot chicks, hard liquor & partying for at least 600 years - I never knew he had a social conscience. Sign of the times I guess.
Great musicians respectively. But can't say they have better chemistry than the one they had with their ex's. The love of your life can be the most boring lover...and vice versa. Love or hate...that's just the way it is.
I'm convinced that mrVhWolf, Hunkola and Rodney21a are all the same interestingly disturbed individual. Get some help, dude. Tell me what the doctor says. It should be fascinating.
The magic of Chickenfoot is in their live performance. I like their songs ok on the cd but when you see these guys play live they give you a lot more than what was on the album and that is what makes a great band. These guys really bring it and thats why they like playing together. This is a cool tune because of the message. Its not really a song.
I love this video. It is a very true look at America now, Real America...Sammy rocked it, Joey jammed on the cords. Alex Rocked and the drums were pumpin...Great Song guys...I love it..
Though Hard Core Fans of this hastily put together "super Group" and the band may be satisfied with this album the truth is...
It Is A Flop
They wont make a second one... Joe will continue to make great music.... on his own..Chad will continue to make great deals of money with RHCP...Michael Anthony will eventually reconcile with VH and join them on a few shows for the next tour...
Sammy can take his 80 million bucks and just continue to get drunk on "Mas tequila" and trash everybody
@Rodney21a actually this song is the from their second album. The first went gold in the US when it was released, and this one will too. These guys have know each other for years and years, there's nothing hastily about the forming of this group.
@CoolMc69 No According to fat Hagar it's the third Album "its Chicken Foot III" so they wont make a second one. I don't EVER recall Joe mentioning Sammy Hagar in any press from 1978-2004.. any Sam only talks about himself or how much of a drunk the Van Halen Brothers are or how David Lee Roth is gay or bald.. Really Chad smith may be buds with Michael Anthony.. dude album sucks.. band sucks... Good riddance...
@Rodney21a Then I guess you haven't been much interested in rock since the clown Diamond Dave destroyed the original VH by leaving over 25 years ago. Hagar and Satriani had a project together in 2002, and I'm quite sure that was not the first time they talked together ;)
@CoolMc69 "had a Project together in 2002" LMAF... Is Jamming in an impromptu performance a "project" Fact is this douche Fat Hagar was "Jamming" at his douchy cabo wabo club in Mehiko with Michale and Chad cause Michale and Chad are buds... They wanted to form a group cause Sammy wanted to form a group he "wanted the greatest guitarist around" and begged Joe to joe..Gues Steve Via was busy and he already had worked with Dave.. "They had a project together" Cool story bro and the band stillSUCKS
@Rodney21a Sammy Hagar had a project in 2002 with Satch, Michael Anthony and Deen Castronovo (from Jurney). It wasn't a jamming in an impromptu performance, it was a band called Planet Us. They played several live shows, but they disbanded the following year, because Sammy and Michael rejoined Van Halen and Deen also had to run back to Jurney.
@PurpleInTheDeep I was waiting for the planet us retort. Dude the music was almost 100 percent done by NEAL SCHON infact when the project/jam sessions went south he formed a group just to put out the material and then used what was left over for the next Journey Record. If you use the SEARCH function on you tube you'll find a clip of ONE SONG they record?Jammed and all they guitar work is NEAL Sammy even says "Neal Schon" before the FIRST solo. There is no EVIDENCEthat Joe madeany contribution
@Rodney21a Indeed, the original line-up was Neal Schon, Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Deen Castronovo. Satriani joined the band some time later. Maybe Joe didn't make any contribution to songwriting(since he joined the band later), but he still played with the group.
More Tom Petty in his own words — "The war in Iraq is shameful. Whether you're pro or con Bush, you've got to admit it: The guy lied. And he continues to do so. I can't understand why he's just not run out on a rail. To send somebody's kids off and have them killed for no good reason-- he's going to have his day in hell for that. I wouldn't want that karma. When you kill somebody's little sister with a missile, he's going to hate you forever. And the next generation will hate you even more."
Question, where the F*CK are John Fogerty, Tom Petty, Sheryl Crowe, Adam Levine, et al ... plenty to say when Bush was President ... now silent .. the height of Libtarded Mentally Dyslexic Hypocrisy!
@29Evolve Tom Petty never said anything about politics! Tom stays out of politics so you obviously dont know what the fuck you are talking about. Tom Petty just got an award for the work he has done with the homeless and is doing a benefit concert for the hunger....you sir are a dumbass
@helleaglespn Hey Dumbass, Petty on two occasions now has issued "cease and desist" orders for Politicians (just so happen to be Republicans) using his "American Girl" and "I Won't Back Down." Stepping right in to Politics. Google the stories, Fool!
I get furious every time I hear this song. Thinking of the Marxist Rat Obummer and his Economic Terrorist Policies that have decimated the economy of this country. Hats off to Sammy and the Crew for bringing the rain in this song. If anyone else was President (see "Republican") the Lamestream media would have a Ted Koppel-like Nightline special every night ... chronicling every jobless story! Instead, carrying the water for this BOBO The Clown President!
@29Evolve Bush, the crooked banks and job offshoring wrecked the economy before Obama was even elected. Nice try, but the polls show the American public knows these are the facts.
Great message Sammy and gang...finally the f'n rock community is getting behind the problems the country is facing. Maybe the stupid mf douche bags in Washington (Yeah all of em) could do the same! Take a lesson from the people who actually care about US...
This song is driving the critics crazy because it is so unorthodox. They are saying,"Where's the bridge? Chorus?". I think it's freakin genius! What a great idea. It really gives the feeling of emotion and out-of-control chaos that follows honest hard workers when we suddenly have the rug pulled out from under us. The whole band stepped up and made this one work perfectly as intended!
Wow! Raw and real, which I will take anyway over that mass produced, digitally fake BS that comes out today from pop/rap factories! Sammy still has the pipes and Eddie (today's Eddie) couldn't tune Joe's guitar :-) Keep the Rock alive fellas!!!!!
Love the Chickenfott III album. Took me awhile to get into this song but now.. I Love It!! This song perfectly describes what's going on today and has the right emotion. Great video!! Great job guys!! Chickenfoot Rocks!! There's only one way to rock and it's Red Rocker style!!
This isn't my favourite song on the album but I really like it.. probably the most philosophical/sociological song that actually means something I've heard for a while. Kinda reminds me of Guns'n'Roses..
@92Redstrat It's too bad these men and women if and when they do come home, what jobs will be open for them, if we cant find work now ,the awful truth some of them may not want to come back home, just keep the job they got there, I know that sounds Fu Up
@mrkman2828 I saw them twice on their first tour and Chad is great, but I would also kill to see Kenny play with them. You won't regret it if you go, one of the best shows I've seen in my thirty years of concerts!
Hunkola=Guy who doesn't know that Sammy was making music before he could legally drink tequila, much less sell it, or that he sold his stake in cabo wabo years ago, or that when a musician puts out a product it doesn't make them somehow "less of a musician".
Nothing personal, I'm just tired of hearing this kind of crap on virtually any video relating to Sammy Hagar. You don't like him, I get it, but nobody puts out 24 albums just to hawk booze.
@psychedelicfella ---- Yeah but you dont seem to realize Sammy STOLE all his ideas about tequila merchandising and cantina franchises from Jimmy Buffett.......Sammy even admits his wife Kari turned him onto the idea......and yet Sammy hasnt paid a single fucking dime in royalties to Buffett.......fucking stole those ideas like a THIEF
@Hunkola That's not how royalties work. In merchandising, if somebody comes up with an idea that makes lots of money, other people are going to do the same thing; that's the way it has always been. Anyway it's not like Jimmy Buffett invented cantinas or franchises, so why should Sammy owe him anything? Imagine I started a successful franchise of restaurants where local musicians could bring in their instruments, have a meal and jam. Now, if you saw that this franchise was bringing in good money,
@psychedelicfella (Continued) you might decide to open a similar one. As long as you're not ripping off my name, logo, etc., I wouln't expect a penny from you. Why? Because the general idea for such a franchise can't really be owned by anyone, only the aforementioned specifics of the franchise can. In this regard Sammy is 100% innocent.
Just so we're clear I'm not trying to fight with you; I'm simply trying to clear up a misconception or two.
@psychedelicfella ---- LOL, yeah I'm sure Sammy is "100% innocent". How delusional are you? Back in the 80's, Sammy worked hard to promote an image of a cool rocker who "cant drive 55" in his Ferrari. Then in the 90's, he suddenly becomes "Mr. Beach Bum" and starts a tequila brand and cantina franchises. Why? Because his wife Kari told him to copy Jimmy Buffett's business model so they could make money. It's all in Sammy's book. Hagar is not savvy at all all --- he's a big RIPOFF & THIEF!
@Hunkola When I said Sammy was "100% innocent", I was only speaking in regards to your accusation of him ripping off Jimmy Buffett, which I explained in detail that he didn't. What I don't understand is why wanting to make money is such a taboo. That's the reason why most (if not all) forms of business exist. I want to make money, I admit it, and you probably do too. There's no reason to hate the guy for that.
As for his image, we can only guess what's natural and what's created.
@psychedelicfella ---- On a purely legal basis, Sammy can't be sued for copyright infringement.......but it's pretty laughable to call him "business savvy".......that would be like me starting a fast food chain where I sell burgers and fries and have a goofy clown as my mascot.....some people would call me a "business genius" but most would say I stole all my ideas from McDonald's......I think you see my point. Sammy can make all the money he wants, but he sure doesnt deserve admiration for it.
I never called Sammy business savvy, I just think it's a bit of a stretch to call him a thief. I also don't admire him because he makes lots of money, but because I like a lot of the music he's made (c'mon, the first Montrose album kicks ass). If you don't like his music, it's cool, but I don't see the need to marginalize the guy.
@psychedelicfella ---- Not saying it was you, but it's been very irritating to hear people say over the years "Sammy is a real business genius". Like you mentioned, why should anyone admire Sammy for his business endeavors? That's like saying "I admire my doctor because he makes a lot of money". You should only admire your doctor for his skill with a scalpel and providing top-quality medical care. You see my point.
nice to here someone give a shout out to people that need a voice.good thing sammys so rich he doesnt need closet chicken foot lovers like mrvhwolf approval

Chickenfoot is just another phony, Hollywood-type, millionaire, liberal band that acts like it cares. What a bunch of losers, so out of touch with common people. Sam and Mike don't look like they are going hungry, do they? LOL
When was the last interview Sammy or Mike didn't cry about Eddie Van Halen? Hang on to your overpriced tequila bars and hot sauce and continue making money off the poor, Spammy and your stooge Mike, it's all you got!
First to the 3 that dislike you 3 dumd roddy poo candy asses that need sammys boot turned side ways . Chicken Foot you guys get it, keep up the good work this what music is all about . I have job in textiles and i will be out of one soon because of the south korean free trade act . ROCK ON GUYS!!

Sammy watch "Inside Job" then write a song about it please.
giuseppemare 3 months ago

MrAGG777 3 months ago
@MrAGG777 Nonsense!
Anyway, unless you're a one man firm you need employees. Where you going to get those from if all the "poor people" turn into entrepreneurs?
stejam58 3 months ago
@stejam58 And you are right indeed, any company needs employees and for that matter yes, you can have a job and you have the right to ask for one, to provide jobs we need companies and thats when entrepreneurs appear. So with that said, in the lack of one, you need more of the other right? so yes we need more entrepreneurers, still there are plenty of ways to do stuff, not only creating a big bussiness, you can enter a network marketing company as a seller for example.

The magic of Chickenfoot is in their live performance. I like their songs ok on the cd but when you see these guys play live they give you a lot more than what was on the album and that is what makes a great band. These guys really bring it and thats why they like playing together. This is a cool tune because of the message. Its not really a song.

Rodney21a 4 months ago
@Rodney21a actually this song is the from their second album. The first went gold in the US when it was released, and this one will too. These guys have know each other for years and years, there's nothing hastily about the forming of this group.
CoolMc69 4 months ago 13
@CoolMc69 No According to fat Hagar it's the third Album "its Chicken Foot III" so they wont make a second one. I don't EVER recall Joe mentioning Sammy Hagar in any press from 1978-2004.. any Sam only talks about himself or how much of a drunk the Van Halen Brothers are or how David Lee Roth is gay or bald.. Really Chad smith may be buds with Michael Anthony.. dude album sucks.. band sucks... Good riddance...
Rodney21a 4 months ago
@Rodney21a Then I guess you haven't been much interested in rock since the clown Diamond Dave destroyed the original VH by leaving over 25 years ago. Hagar and Satriani had a project together in 2002, and I'm quite sure that was not the first time they talked together ;)
CoolMc69 4 months ago 2
@CoolMc69 "had a Project together in 2002" LMAF... Is Jamming in an impromptu performance a "project" Fact is this douche Fat Hagar was "Jamming" at his douchy cabo wabo club in Mehiko with Michale and Chad cause Michale and Chad are buds... They wanted to form a group cause Sammy wanted to form a group he "wanted the greatest guitarist around" and begged Joe to joe..Gues Steve Via was busy and he already had worked with Dave.. "They had a project together" Cool story bro and the band stillSUCKS
Rodney21a 4 months ago
@Rodney21a Sammy Hagar had a project in 2002 with Satch, Michael Anthony and Deen Castronovo (from Jurney). It wasn't a jamming in an impromptu performance, it was a band called Planet Us. They played several live shows, but they disbanded the following year, because Sammy and Michael rejoined Van Halen and Deen also had to run back to Jurney.
PurpleInTheDeep 4 months ago
@PurpleInTheDeep I was waiting for the planet us retort. Dude the music was almost 100 percent done by NEAL SCHON infact when the project/jam sessions went south he formed a group just to put out the material and then used what was left over for the next Journey Record. If you use the SEARCH function on you tube you'll find a clip of ONE SONG they record?Jammed and all they guitar work is NEAL Sammy even says "Neal Schon" before the FIRST solo. There is no EVIDENCEthat Joe madeany contribution
Rodney21a 4 months ago

This song is driving the critics crazy because it is so unorthodox. They are saying,"Where's the bridge? Chorus?". I think it's freakin genius! What a great idea. Sammy Hagar = TEQUILA SALESMAN PRETENDING TO BE A MUSICIAN !!
Hunkola 4 months ago
@Hunkola
You don't like him, I get it, but nobody puts out 24 albums just to hawk booze.
psychedelicfella 4 months ago 13
@psychedelicfella ---- Yeah but you dont seem to realize Sammy STOLE all his ideas about tequila merchandising and cantina franchises from Jimmy Buffett.......Sammy even admits his wife Kari turned him onto the idea......and yet Sammy hasnt paid a single fucking dime in royalties to Buffett.......fucking stole those ideas like a THIEF
Hunkola 4 months ago
@Hunkola That's not how royalties work. In merchandising, if somebody comes up with an idea that makes lots of money, other people are going to do the same thing; that's the way it has always been. Anyway it's not like Jimmy Buffett invented cantinas or franchises, so why should Sammy owe him anything? Imagine I started a successful franchise of restaurants where local musicians could bring in their instruments, have a meal and jam. Now, if you saw that this franchise was bringing in good money,
psychedelicfella 4 months ago
@psychedelicfella (Continued) you might decide to open a similar one. As long as you're not ripping off my name, logo, etc., I wouln't expect a penny from you. Why? Because the general idea for such a franchise can't really be owned by anyone, only the aforementioned specifics of the franchise can. In this regard Sammy is 100% innocent.
Just so we're clear I'm not trying to fight with you; I'm simply trying to clear up a misconception or two.
Have a good night.
psychedelicfella 4 months ago
Hunkola 4 months ago
@Hunkola Then stop listening to his music.
IamChrisRB 4 months ago
@Hunkola When I said Sammy was "100% innocent", I was only speaking in regards to your accusation of him ripping off Jimmy Buffett, which I explained in detail that he didn't. What I don't understand is why wanting to make money is such a taboo. That's the reason why most (if not all) forms of business exist. I want to make money, I admit it, and you probably do too. There's no reason to hate the guy for that.
As for his image, we can only guess what's natural and what's created.
psychedelicfella 4 months ago
@psychedelicfella ---- On a purely legal basis, Sammy can't be sued for copyright infringement.......but it's pretty laughable to call him "business savvy".......that would be like me starting a fast food chain where I sell burgers and fries and have a goofy clown as my mascot.....some people would call me a "business genius" but most would say I stole all my ideas from McDonald's......I think you see my point. Sammy can make all the money he wants, but he sure doesnt deserve admiration for it.
Hunkola 4 months ago
@Hunkola *This will be my last response*
I never called Sammy business savvy, I just think it's a bit of a stretch to call him a thief. I also don't admire him because he makes lots of money, but because I like a lot of the music he's made (c'mon, the first Montrose album kicks ass). If you don't like his music, it's cool, but I don't see the need to marginalize the guy.
Thanks for the debate.
psychedelicfella 4 months ago
@psychedelicfella ---- Not saying it was you, but it's been very irritating to hear people say over the years "Sammy is a real business genius". Like you mentioned, why should anyone admire Sammy for his business endeavors? That's like saying "I admire my doctor because he makes a lot of money". You should only admire your doctor for his skill with a scalpel and providing top-quality medical care. You see my point.
