Not going to find much of any info on the web. There are very few of us out there to take on this feat of dissecting the stuff for arcade use like this.
I would like to make a video showing how to hotwire the controller but I don't have another wheel to do this on.
@learzy i have a friend from the Philippines who's very good at this. he has a team, who creates these stuff. they have already made around 50 of these mods - both XBOX 360 and PS3. The whole thing only costs $400 - $500 I'll ask him to create a tut for it.
@learzy I have a friend from the Philippines, who has a team who creates these arcade cabinets both for the XBOX 360 and PS3. The screens even use LCDs. They have already created and sold around 60 units. One arcade costs around $500 to $1000 depending on the setup. Ill ask him to make a tut on it.
The MC2 has steering "pots" and pedal "pots". The arcade steering wheel and pedals also has its own "pots".
Crack open the MC2, find the main board, determine which wires go to the MC2's steering and pedals, then cut and splice them into the arcade steering and pedal wires.
Sounds easy, but it will take some time. I spent a good 12 hours alone doing this, mounting the board, attaching wires, re-shifting the pots, etc etc.
Calibration will vary per each game. So it's a good idea to wire those buttons in somewhere. Some games like nascar will want a very tight steering setup, while others like Outrun and Burnout will play better with a nice loose setup. The wheel WILL work without the buttons setup though.
Xbox is currently not very suitable platform to emulate old schoold games because it CANNOT output progressive low res 15 kHz video modes... all you get is INCORRECT interlaced 480i 60 Hz output... for pixel purists Xbox is not the choice
I mean you cannot output true resolutions like the old hardware for instance Sega Genesis outputs 320x224p or 256x224p... Xbox cannot do that, it only does 640x480i unlike PS2 or Wii that can do 224p... but as I said it is rather for perfectionists
Very nice work, a lot of time to build that, and the finished product is excellent. I just did one side of a scud racer cabinet and it has taken many hours just to get to a stage of simply functioning. The mad catz wheel and xbox combo are a good choice.
Awesome, man! I'm glad to see my steering wheel got put to good use. This thing looks awesome and I'm totally amazed that you were able to build that all from scratch. Great work!
cool game TRON 2.0 with those led lights it can't go wrong

nice job!
where can I get more detailed info about your project?
learzy 2 years ago
@learzy
Right here. I didn't make a real tutorial or blog about the project. I just snapped a few pictures as I went. This is about as good as it gets.
Thanks for the compliment.

ohhh It would be great to have a tutorial....
I want to build something like yours with the 360...but I haven't seen good info on the web

Hey Gozer5454,
What a brilliant job you did on the XBOX conversion! Very impressed. Just wondering how much it cost you for the entire project.
Again, good luck with all your future arcade projects.

I really haven't added up receipts. If I did, I wouldn't doubt if it crept into several hundred dollars.

Thanks for the reply, again best of luck on acquiring more arcades for your collection!

@gozer5454
So have you ever thought about updating this bad boy with 360 or PS3 hardware and LCD/plasma screens?
This is so cool, and a fresh idea for arcade gamers...
Hmm, I wonder what would happen if you modded the boxes with larger hard drives, and had a compatible version of MAME on them...

@i8246i
That's ultimately why I choose the original XBOX. Its so cheap to find two systems and two steering wheels, plus they are both modded with emulators.
Updating to the newer system would cost a good $400 more atleast.
Thanks for the complements!

LCD would be better than CRT

got it! cheers mate.
just one more thing. why does it need to be calibrated? does it need calibrating everytime its played?

I have no idea what you just said. But I like playing me some old school games on the XBOX.

that is a nice set up you have there. If my arcade room was big enough I would do the same type of thing as you did. 5 stars

Well, not totally from scratch. The actual cabinet was already built, I simply pulled everything out, then put everything new in.
But man, what a pain in the ass. There ended up being over 300 feet of new wiring that I had to install.
Thanks for checking it out!
