Oh, no! I'm no expert. I just know that some people act out their lunacy on YouTube before they proceed to run around town in their birthday suits, snarling and snapping at anybody within reach. LOL!! I was just speaking out of concern is all. LOL!!
The words to the song are not the only thing you don't know British girl. You guys are boring as hell, which is one of the unstated reasons America was formed. Stop hating. Just drink your tea, hate niggers, and play your croquet. You guys suck and nobody cares anything about you. There is nothing cool about Europe. You do need to move to America oh wait we have reach a quota of ugly annoying chicks with horrible accent but maybe next year Obama will still be president. You guys shit what we eat
Um, I think America was a little behind Britain in recognising the huge mistakes and injustice of the slave trade + not treating blacks as the humans they are. We shit what you eat? ok, not true, but I think you're a little muddled in your rant there. Our politics are boring yes. We care what America does, yes. America is the most powerful nation in an increasingly global community. Obama himself made fun of the scale of his nomination celebration-at least he has more humour than anger. Chill :)

Well I can tell you that we have dentists over here......hint.........hint............And were not all idiots dear, its a large country for just over 300 million people...... please open up your mind and don't put us all in the same narrow minded fantasy that you Brits have of us. Were not all red necks trust me...... More Americans get annoyed with the overly patriotic bull shit than you think. Don't hate...peace and love from Cincinnati
I agree, we need more passion here. On the important stuff not just the whos claiming what on expenses! If more people really cared enough to put themselves forward-we'd have more to choose from!
as I said, look at the speeches that take places in school gyms or town halls and you'll see 100% the same fanaticism without any of the glamor. people smart enough to be interested in the elections look at the whole product from a candidate and not just one speech that is nationally broadcast across the nation. people here have an extreme interest in politics that go above and beyond superficial qualities and into the issues at hand
the democratic/republication convention acceptance speeches are pretty crazy that is true. but id urge you to take a look at the real debates at schools or churches across america to get a real feel of the election. the fervor surrounding it isn't just because of fireworks or bands but because of the candidates. there's plenty of hype and devotion surrounding the candidates that have nothing to do with the glitz and glamor of the speeches they give only once an election
I did watch a lot of the speeches and debates during the election, and was impressed that things are so much more open with so much more public interest than what I perceive here.
This video was an elated (because I was rooting for Obama as a world citizen due to what I had seen and heard of him-my interest peaked even more by an American boyfriend with a strong interest in politics) reaction to something that surprised and fascinated me. Very different to politics in my culture.
Part of what she said was funny. But shouldn't politics get that type of attention? Maybe sports should have precedents on it huh? Political passion is important!
being british myself i understand her view as we have a less openly optimistic view of ourselves in comparison to what the media often portrays of the americans, they have a certain exuberance and openness to their feelings which i feel we sometimes dont show. But to be honest i think that is a warming part to their nature which I, and other brits feel about them. Yes it was extravagant, and yes it was 'hollywood' in some ways, but why not, it was an historic and momentous occasion
Only because you guys reserve you passion for things like a game of soccer and arguing about what America does and not do doesnt make us Hollywood. No one in the world cares about what is going on in British politics. And the reason is because you guys have the same ole same ole people with no passion for anything that benefits the rest of the world. Face it you guys are always going to care about us more then we care about you
I like this girl. Not sure if she was being sarcastic, but she was engaging. To understand Americans is to understand that they are very proud patriotic people, whereas I'm not sure the Brits feel the same way about their own country. They probably do but maybe don't show it. Americans love celebrating themselves such as the over the top Obama event, and the Brits go all out with amazing pageantry, even for Princess Diana's funeral, which seemed over the top extravagant.
I think a lot of Brits are patriotic, but we show it in a different way. We're often happy to bitch about our country, but if anyone else does it we get all indignant and defensive. Kind of like it's ok to slate your own relatives, but if an outsider does it suddenly we defend our kin to the hilt!
The Diana thing was pretty crazy. I was in shock at the way she died, but I never did understand the huge emotionally demonstrative public reaction to be honest. It seemed a bit ridiculous to me, and very un-British. But I suppose it was about more than just her. People seemed to take that tragic event and externalise a lot of what they felt inside about things in their own lives onto it. Her death symbolised a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
American politics are very over-the-top. It was great to see people around the world react in such a positive manner to something happening here in America! The conventions are really more like rock concerts, it's pretty amazing. Funny video, by the way.
America can certainly put on a good show that's for sure lol! And I'm very positive about the impact Obama's presidency will have on America and the rest of the world. I truly believe he is a lot more than just show :)
I am American, and I just have to say: believe me, love, we were just as shocked to see all of those people out and reacting in crowds and cheering and making all that noise, because it's never happened before. This really was new to us, too.
Can understand this overwhelming feeling of relief we had when Obama won? We were just so happy to get Bush out of office. We wanted him gone so much, and that was just eight years of pent-up aggression turning into hope. That's all. ^_^
I know there was more hype than usual with the Obama thing this time (not least because people could see the end of the Bush administration in sight) but from what many Americans have told me, it's always pretty showy and glitzy anyway. We have pretty much NO glamour to our politics here. It's very boring :/
Yeah, that is true. We do go pretty nuts when it comes to the party's respective national conventions. All those people hanging around and waving flags and screaming.
But yes, with Obama, it's taken to a whole new level. lol
I'm sorry it's boring. lol Start a trend! Get out there and make some noise. From what I understand, there were a few parties in the UK for our election. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, especially if nobody gets riled up for the UK's politics. lol
I do usually vote, but I have to say the Americans get the prize for the best promotion! Much more interesting than our party political broadcasts.
Well, following this election has made me want to take more of an interest in my own countries politics, I could feel my own apathy kicking in, 'they're all the same, who cares anyway', but I also realise that if we DON'T vote, the extremists who will might just start winning. THAT scares me. I DO NOT want the BNP having any power ANYWHERE!
Candidates like Obama and Mccain get 90% of the media's attention durring the primaries andthen the politicians act so surprised that they won the nomination. Lol.
YES!!! Thank you! My sentiments exactly, and I'm from the U.S. You would think the second coming of Christ had occurred. It's out of control. I can't wait until it's over.
I think Bama should one up Mac and drop the hair plug for men "Biden my time" limp dick and throw Hinton into the mix , it would be a real cat fight to the finish then . At least it would be interesting . Now , what do we have , a young neophyte with delusions of pollyanna saddled with an older creepy guy and an old creepy guy getting new life from a younger hot babe ( what a cliche ). Let's make it something worth watching , two " attractive " prospective female Vps going head to head . JV
No sorry, wrong again. More people wanted him to win then your guy. LET ME SAY THIS SLOWLY, a lot of people wanted to see him this why his events had to be at big venues to accommodate ALL THE PEOPLE! It is not people genius, it is called demand!!!
Lemme tell you since this started Ive been hounded atleast 11 times to register to vote. Theres people all over up and down the streets. It insane. Now you know why we are so screwed up.
You'd better be fecking kidding! You're not allowed to like Creed AND McCain! Make your choice now! lol
McCain just made a serious bad choice in a VP, well, more to the point she made a serious bad choice accepting, don't you think? 5 children, one a pregnant 17 year old, one a 5 month old with Downs Syndrome. Can/SHOULD that woman be giving 100% of her priority and time to her job? I Think Not! And I'm a feminist! I'd say the same if a man in that position was up for that job!
VP candidate Palin has more execuvitve experience than Obama does. And she is just going for VP not Pres, not as critical a role. Her having 5 kida, one pregnant and one with down syndrome will make her more empathetic towards mothers :)
VP is still a 24/7 job-she'd have to be ready to drop everything to attend to her job at any time. As a parent I feel that I would have to drop everything at any time to attend to my children if they needed me. I just think those two huge responsibilities clash, and with such a young baby with special needs it is bad timing for her. Maybe her husband will be the primary parent.
come on now , if she gets in , she has access to the best medical care in the western hemisphere ( after we import all the talent lol ), it's not like her brood won't be properly looked after while she's discussing national policy . they'll be protected by the best security in the world , their every need will be satisfied , if anything , she would be crazy not to pursue this endeavor . everything will be paid for and the service will be second to none . i'm seeing an ulterior motive here ;) JV
Most politics in the USA are not like that. That was just the democratic convention where all the fervent hooting party members get together and wank each other off. The republican convention will be a bit more subdued but still pretty bad.
I just wish they would stop using "Born in the USA" for political candidates. It's a song about the struggles of Vietnam Vets, not some patriotic theme song.
Everyone needs to look through the hype and make an honest assessment of the character of the men in question... Do they seek to serve the nation or themselves?
It's MONEY!!! check out how much it costs to even run for President let alone WIN the election! OH yeah and there's more of them than there are of us BIG COUNTRY
It's a pretty big spectacle, isn't it? Obama has given me hope for the first time in a long time! Fun video...yeah, celebrities, huh? Your reaction was so funny. Guess we're desensitized to it now.
Honestly, I think it's fine that they have fireworks. What's wrong with fireworks? You act like it's better to celebrate movie stars than a politician you believe in. If you can't celebrate a person that you are going to put in power, I don't know how people are able to celebrate a an actor or a musician. I think it's great that they are pumping people up about the election. Our country needs all the educated voters it can get. We are excited to have the chance to get out of republican dominatio
I enjoyed it!I find the hype around movie stars pretty crazy too, but I'm used to that. I'd never seen such an enthusiastic + lavish ending to a political speech/programme before. Where I'm from it just isn't done that way, I was amazed at the difference.
Seriously though, do intelligent voters need fireworks to vote for Obama? Or is that aimed at the popular mass who are more easily swayed by appearances and displays of wealth and power?
I do think it's good more people are taking interest.
I swear its so ridiculous! Its almost embarrassing for some of us. I mean we pay for that over dramatized crap! Cant we just say STOP. There is a war going on too, Obama!! pffft :D You totally need a tank top and you are ready for the US, and hurricanes and tornados, and freaky politicians!!
The over-the-top celebratory vibe for his speech sounds funny. Knowing the end of 'lauras retarded husband's term is near, would alone be reason to rejoice. Obama represents a thread of hope, after 8 years of painful embarrassment, lies, disbelief, and more insulting LIES. Anytime you wish to visit the U.S. , you have a friend in Michigan. Peace and Pudding. ;-)
Yea, Our politics may be over the top, but at least we don't have a ROYAL FAMILY. What the heck is all that about? I'd be really unhappy if we were wasting our tax dollars on ROYALTY. At least these types of campaign shenanigans come from campaign donors and not my pocket. Before you make fun of the absurdity of American politics, take a look in the mirror. You are judging our process based on what you see on television. How informed is that? TELEVISION is not reality.
You know what's funny, it's the Tourists that treat our Royal Family like celebrities! Not the average Brit. I like having a royal family, I think they are a great asset to our public image and relations. The Queen is the best ambassador we have, and the hardest working one. Many disagree with me though.
Anyway, politics is a circus wherever you go, but I hadn't seen the USA circus before-and I found it highly entertaining. Much more fun than the party political broadcasts over here.
The sad part of our political process is that we claim to want fair elections in all parts of the world, but there are a lot of inconsistencies in our vote counts. I think the UN should oversee our elections in the U.S. Why are people here so against a printed receipt on electronic voting machines? Don't tell me the Republican party is all of a sudden concerned about the environment and the wasting of paper. It used to be that dead people were voting, now its the voting machines. Pathetic.
i am so happy you liked it! they have to make it like a movie, because thats what people want. thats what sells. so if your opponent uses slow-mo, you had better use it too!!
we do it because we have to, we forced ourselves into it, and to me it is WAY over the top! its sad isnt it, the canidates didnt choose the fireworks, the people did. if the people want slow-mo, give em slow-mo!!
it's all about who can put on the best show. The candidates spend a ridicules amount of money to become president. TV is loaded with commercials where the candidates bash each other. What a waste of money! I can't help thinking that you don't have to look far to find an area in need for funding.
You have nailed it so bad it's not even funny! Thanks for calling stuff as ya see it. Obama is a Joke and so is McCaine, I hope you got to see his Veep.. She's a hottie. STay tuned for the half time show when we make another country glow.
hahaha, Nice to see Obama leading the front in the energy conservation there LOL!
Over the top hype aside, I like Obama as a politician, he'd be my choice if I had a vote. I'd choose him if he was against Tony Blair or Margaret Thatcher too!
hahah the national conventions are pretty hyped and frenzied - just wait until the republican one. They usually try to out-do each other with the entertainment and which celebrity powerhouses will back them.
I did watch the speech, it was agood one I have to admit.
just think - each STATE has their own shin-digs too! LOL
You're insane! I LOVED your reaction. It was the coolest experience I've ever had while watching a nomination with someone lol. Your laughter is infectious and it's beautiful :)
Nielsen estimated that 40 million Americans viewed the speech. (including me).
From MSNBC:
More people watched Obama... than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final "American Idol" or the Academy Awards this year, Nielsen Media Research said Friday.
The Obama speech was carried live by 10 commercial networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo, and by non-commercial PBS and C-SPAN.

come on now , if she gets in , she has access to the best medical care in the western hemisphere ( after we import all the talent lol ), it's not like her brood won't be properly looked after while she's discussing national policy . they'll be protected by the best security in the world , their every need will be satisfied , if anything , she would be crazy not to pursue this endeavor . everything will be paid for and the service will be second to none . i'm seeing an ulterior motive here ;) JV

: ) Yes, we do it with a little flair, eh? : ) I didn't even see it, as I don't watch tv. I love that echo...what is that?
Now with McCain's VP announcement, it really is drama...a real soap opera.
I do LOVE AMERICA, all the while! BORN in the USA! : )lol
Peace,
Angie

Everyone needs to look through the hype and make an honest assessment of the character of the men in question... Do they seek to serve the nation or themselves?
We face challenges ahead few fathom...
Pappy mumbled it.... *hugs Lass*

Oh yeh, definitely need to look through the hype on all sides!

I think it is hysterical that they always use the song Born In The USA. Read the lyrics, they are NOT complimentary to the US.

LOL!! I was thinking the same thing when I saw it too.
But you're reaction was much better than mine. All I did was have my jaw dropped the whole time.

Inspiredbyyoo 3 years ago
I enjoyed it!I find the hype around movie stars pretty crazy too, but I'm used to that. I'd never seen such an enthusiastic + lavish ending to a political speech/programme before. Where I'm from it just isn't done that way, I was amazed at the difference.
Seriously though, do intelligent voters need fireworks to vote for Obama? Or is that aimed at the popular mass who are more easily swayed by appearances and displays of wealth and power?
I do think it's good more people are taking interest.

Anything American on TV seems so big and dramatic compared to England. We're boring frankly.
LeiGhh93 3 years ago
I swear its so ridiculous! Its almost embarrassing for some of us. I mean we pay for that over dramatized crap! Cant we just say STOP. There is a war going on too, Obama!! pffft :D You totally need a tank top and you are ready for the US, and hurricanes and tornados, and freaky politicians!!
cooksterz 3 years ago
The over-the-top celebratory vibe for his speech sounds funny. Knowing the end of 'lauras retarded husband's term is near, would alone be reason to rejoice. Obama represents a thread of hope, after 8 years of painful embarrassment, lies, disbelief, and more insulting LIES. Anytime you wish to visit the U.S. , you have a friend in Michigan. Peace and Pudding. ;-)

This is PARTY politics in America, where it's almost never about the issues and always about the Parties!

I love a good party! lol!
samsarajade 3 years ago
Yea, Our politics may be over the top, but at least we don't have a ROYAL FAMILY. What the heck is all that about? I'd be really unhappy if we were wasting our tax dollars on ROYALTY. At least these types of campaign shenanigans come from campaign donors and not my pocket. Before you make fun of the absurdity of American politics, take a look in the mirror. You are judging our process based on what you see on television. How informed is that? TELEVISION is not reality.
NorCalCorsello 3 years ago
Did you even watch the vid? Sounds to me as if she's praising the over-the-topness.
Mad5am 3 years ago
You know what's funny, it's the Tourists that treat our Royal Family like celebrities! Not the average Brit. I like having a royal family, I think they are a great asset to our public image and relations. The Queen is the best ambassador we have, and the hardest working one. Many disagree with me though.
Anyway, politics is a circus wherever you go, but I hadn't seen the USA circus before-and I found it highly entertaining. Much more fun than the party political broadcasts over here.
samsarajade 3 years ago
The sad part of our political process is that we claim to want fair elections in all parts of the world, but there are a lot of inconsistencies in our vote counts. I think the UN should oversee our elections in the U.S. Why are people here so against a printed receipt on electronic voting machines? Don't tell me the Republican party is all of a sudden concerned about the environment and the wasting of paper. It used to be that dead people were voting, now its the voting machines. Pathetic.
NorCalCorsello 3 years ago
i am so happy you liked it! they have to make it like a movie, because thats what people want. thats what sells. so if your opponent uses slow-mo, you had better use it too!!
we do it because we have to, we forced ourselves into it, and to me it is WAY over the top! its sad isnt it, the canidates didnt choose the fireworks, the people did. if the people want slow-mo, give em slow-mo!!
anyway, my vote is for you!!

kidblood1 3 years ago
it's all about who can put on the best show.

It's the country that brought us fucking Dallas, wtf did you expect? :P

You look very Lennon-ish with those shades :D

hahah the national conventions are pretty hyped and frenzied - just wait until the republican one.

Your laughter is infectious and it's beautiful :)
johnreagannumber1 3 years ago
Nielsen estimated that 40 million Americans viewed the speech. (including me).
From MSNBC:
More people watched Obama... than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final "American Idol" or the Academy Awards this year, Nielsen Media Research said Friday.
The Obama speech was carried live by 10 commercial networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo, and by non-commercial PBS and C-SPAN.
