Taxes in the states are way lower in contrast to Canada's, so they have to pay for their own healthcare. For higher income families in Canada, it's not uncommon for them to pay almost half their money to the government in income tax alone. Anyhow, health care in Canada is far from glorious if you understand what it really is: the government establishing a complete monopoly over a sector and demanding mandatory payments to uphold it.
