IVe been a huge fan of The Ventures since I was about 8 years old,now I'm 50!!! I had seen them perform in Milwaukee at a dive called The JeffersonStarShip.I was a great show,I was 18 at the time!To this day,I still collect Ventures music, from the original group the to younger one today to continue the legacy,The Ventures rock-always!!Thanx for posting!!!!!!!!
This was on the juke box in our lunchroom in high school. Everytime someone played it, all the guys had out pencils doing the drumming. And it got place at least once every lunch hour.
Who's the second drummer....looks like the drummer for ToTo but that cant be right as that guy died from poisoning from the stuff he was using on his front lawn.
Ventures was always a thirdrate band. And these drummers should check out the real Master of instrumental drumming Brian Bennett from The best intrumental band in the world EVER The Shadows, much higher class and much more musical and capable of playing in all styles of music. Ventures is a typical American Cowboy band, without taste.
@Dionysosable then why dont you just leave the US right now, we dont want "your type" here anyway, and they'll all play better than you can even dream of
@Dionysosable The Ventures and The Shadows were both awesome bands. I can't decide which one I like more. No reason to dis the other if one is your favourite. Both Brian and Mel are great drummers. I think Mel was even better than Brian.
If you watch the Japan 1966 vid of this you'll see the guitar in question. It was a white Moserite made by Seth Mosley in California. SWEET playing axe!!!
Nokie Edwards,The lead guitar had a nephew who was CLOSE to as good as he is. His name was John St.Martin.He played for me back in the mid 70s. Mskimmy is my wife.My name is Skip. I actually got to hold and play one of Nokies guitars one time,I considered it an honor just to hold it.
the very first drummer of the ventures was skip moore , he played on the original walk don't run recording. later they had howie johnson and then the legendary mel taylor as you can see on this vid. after he passed away in 1996 his son leon tayler took over.
He is not Max. The oldest drummer is Mel Taylor. (R.I.P.)... After Mel died, his son Leon Taylor replaced him and has been The Ventures' drummer ever since.

Wow i Love this.I mean just awesome.Mel and Max .This is one of those u go Damnit man i wish i coulda been there. The band is smokin. Thanks for posting .Just great
Always did love this song... a good friend of mine loved it so much he baught a single snare drum.. and practiced it day and night.... when we went to High school. he dropped out in our sophmore year, two weeks into the year. and went into the Army, Three months into a tour in Viet Nam. he was KIA. 17 years old....
Now when I hear this song, I remember him as he was then.... jamin away to the 45 on his snare.... He is for ever that kid....
Who's the Mexican playing guitar? Looks like he's playing the leads we all identify the song from. Wasn't that written by Dick Dale? Is that him in the middle?
@iditarod9 noooo.......... listen to big jack or rock n roll train, 2 of the best from black ice by AC/DC, and lynyrd skynyrd is not country western, theyre southern rock. and coming back for more, god and guns, still unbroken, and storm from God and Guns by Skynyrd.
As a teen, I was first introduced to The Ventures with Hawaii Five-0, and from that point on I collected all of their past and future albums. Being a musician's son myself, it was this group that turned me on to the drums, too. In the late sixties, who were the members: Mel Taylor, Nokie Edwards, Bob Bogle and Gerry McGee, correct?
