Yes, its very weathered, this quartz and surrounding rock is said to be around 400 million years old! Formed around the time of the appalachains which are some of the oldest mountains in the world! Its a ton of fun digging them up. I'll have to put up a link or something to the picture of this piece now that its cleaned, its better than we thought:)

The ground looks pretty weathered. It was neat to see the crystal gob come from the weathered bank.
