CurtaPajama... I think you did a decent job of this song, theres no taking away from the fact that you are clearly not a scotsman haha but thats what makes it so good that you have made the effort to listen to them perform songs in a scots like dialect, great effort , one point I would make though and its an essential part of the song, its actually called The Calton Weaver after an area in Glasgow called The Calton where there were cotton mills during the 19th and easrly 20th century
The guys done very well, to pronounce it would be hard, good job and thats from a Scotsman, SilverSyntho, check youre facts mate you might find it aint Scottish.
Just found it in Folk Songs of England on a site today, surprised me.
No the original Nancy Whiskey/ Cartlton Weaver(the most well known version and the one this dude is singing) is an 19th centurty Scottish folk song. There is another variant of it with different verses that was written by an englishman that sings about London but its not the orignal.
Hi, Amazing! I admire your panache. Check out the version by the Corries. This is my fvery irst YouTube post, and you deserve it! What's your nationality?
@K3KCT "Nancy Whiskey" was popularised by the late Ewan MacColl, and most Irish groups since that time have sung a version of it, although MacColl's version is the definitive one. And yes, I know Calton is a part of Glasgow. Like I said, I've never heard (with the exception of MacColl) the song sang by anyone who isn't Irish, and I've not yet listened to any Scots sing it. That isn't to say that it's an Irish song, which would be as daft as saying that "Dirty Old Town" is.
...and if you had half a brain, you'd realise that I wasn't saying that Nancy Whiskey is an Irish song. As for the ad hominem, it's treated with the contempt it deserves.
Nancy Whisky - it's about Scotch Whisky! The song is about a Calton weaver who became an alocholic. Calton weavers, they practised the weaving trade at the time of the Industrial Revolution they became politically active in the 1800's and an insurrection, some would even call it a revolution. Trust me here, my ancestor was one of them.
That's Calton Weaver actually - NOT Carlton as is stated above. Calton is a district of the city of Glasgow where weavers once lived worked. Also if you are refering to Sctoch it's Whisky - Irish is Whiskey. Trust me here I'm Scottish.
Horrible singing and playing. Horrible costume. This is a joke right?

"Nancy Whisky" is really a good song I think.
I sang it for some friends and soon they like it.
The melody is simple but quite nice, and the lyricis are very fun.

Hmmmm....Nancy Whisky is Scotch Whisky. I'v thought that a girl Nancy cheat a Carlton weaver. Now because of you I feel really clear.
And you are posterity of them! Your Ancestor's warning "Beware of Whisky" is completely true even now.
