@glaxglax I think it was just a random journal entry that M. Monroe made. Sadly, I haven't purchased the M. Monroe book, yet. I believe it's just a larger comment on the self-esteem issues that M. Monroe had regarding her looks. Annie is just empathizing/relating with M. Monroe's self-esteem issues? If you look at the interviews with NPR and Spin, I think she discusses the lyrics to "Surgeon." Great song, right?

Saw her play live and I was at the very front! this was the first tune she did for the gig! her solo at the end was amazing!! the light show and pitch shifter/fuzz guitar solo just blew the venue away!! and then she owned the rest of the night! every tune she played was full of heart and soul! she even jumped into the crowd at the end :) that was funny

Plus we host 3 major festivals that feature a good amount of music that is not considered mainstream (Coachella, Outside Lands, and ESPECIALLY Treasure Island). Just pay attention to who is touring and you'll catch alot of people like St Vincent here in the state. :)

On second thought, If there is one thing that kind of bothers me with this song, is that I was really getting into the groove at 3:50 and when she goes to solo, they change the backing rhythm to something else entirely so I feel like it breaks the flow of the mood.
