  • thats a Band!

  • Anyone know where or how to get their album? I've honestly looked everywhere.

  • I have one.

  • I have fond memories of hanging out with Gene and I think of him often. He is truly missed.

  • A hardcore kid i knew in high school turned me on to this band. Though I only heard the Megaforce LP, i couldn't stop listening to it back in 91/92. Great songwriting, musicality, and Gene Hawkins had a unique and powerful voice. Who knows how far they might've gone.

Just thought about them randomly the other day, and was really saddened to learn about the singer's passing 15 years ago.

Peace and R.I.P. to G. Hawkins from NY. So many great DC cats helped launch alot of great NY music, too.

  • This band spelled my youth growing up skateboarding and hanging out in DC. I had the pleasure of hanging with the band a couple of times after they played the 930 club and to say the very least, they were the most complete band I have seen to date. Gene, R.I.P.....like the other poster said, buy everything you can find on this band, they will move you to your sole.

  • Luis and Chris great to see lucy brown on you tube. I not only remember this show at the 9:30 club but I was your roommate at U of MD for a short while. Your songs are still great after all these years. Sorry to hear about Gene...

  • still have the paper-covered demo tape in my collection... saw them once in the Kean College caf...my friend had booked them. saw 'em all over jersey in those years....

  • Man Do I miss these cats. We miss you Gene.. Peace Broheemm _\M/

  • Saw them live in NJ in the early 90's. I instantly fell in love with this band. I still have their cd and it's one of my favorites till this day. I really think this band could have made it big. They were on the scene at the right time. The Chili Peppers were really catching on and I think this band could have ridden that wave in.

  • Well before the Bouncing Souls were signed, they had a decent enough following at the time to get some of their friends' bands on some good bills. They were tight with Lucy Brown and put them on bills with them.

  • this band always played the 930 club and the dc space for $5 in the early 90's. anybody remember the velvet monkeys from the college park md days of early 80's. also, the band 9353.

  • Wow! I miss those days. I miss Eugene Hawkins... often. Thanks for this. A friend.

  • I still have "Five Dogs Dead" somewhere in my collection. It was also on the juke box at "The Crow Bar" on 20th and K in downtown DC. I'm told it was torn down. Shame. I think the band hung out there for a bit, or at least the drummer did. I spoke with him a couple of times there. Always wonder if they would have made it big if the singer lived. RIP.

  • I'd pay you to burn a copy of "Five Dogs Dead" for me. I lost mine years ago, and have been kicking myself since. They would have made it big. I recorded an EP at Luis's (guitar player)studio. He said they were touring with Pantera just before Gene died. They were on their way. Sad...

  • That sounds about right because I believe Vinnie Paul produced their second album. If you ever find the tape for that, look for a cut called Room Turns Red. It was a tough cut. I miss this band.

  • Yeah. The track is called "Red". I love that whole EP. Damn shame they didn't make it further. At least we can still enjoy the music they did make.

  • Oh, okay. Just "Red". Am I right about the Vinnie Paul thing? Did Paul produce the whole thing or just a few cuts?

  • The whole thing. My high school band got to record with Luis in his studio. He had some cool stories about hanging out with Vinnie.

  • @theonlybyrone yeah, too bad about the o.d.... I saw them about 6 months (guessing) before the singer offed himself... in Norfolk, VA at the King's Head Inn. Was friggin' AWESOME!

  • Great music!

I was going to say awesome bass but the vocals and drums and expecially the guitar were awesome too xD

  • Man...I wish there was more footage of them.

I saw them in Columbia, SC back in their

    touring days....good band.

  • So terrific to see this again! I was at that show, Aug. 23, 1991... Lucy Brown was my all-time favorite band to catch live, they always put on a great show. THANKS for putting this up!
