i never understood the appeal of SBR's, you lose so much fragmenting capability from your ammo, and such deviation from Stoners final design almost inevitably leads to function issues as well. One may say they are SLIGHTLY quicker to point in CQB scenarios, but what i learned from sim training is that an armed and motivated defender has such a huge advantage, it is a moot point. Still, they do look rather fun to shoot. Not a hater, i just don't get it......
think of it like a CCW pistol. way too small for practical work, so no on duty LEO is going to be issued a small CCW pistol
BUT, 99% (or more) of the time a CCW pistol does nothing but sit on your belt.. and we all hope we go a lifetime with it just sitting there un-needed .. so we are happy to find the smallest one to fill our needs
same with an SBR if you are out and about doing your thing and want / need a carbine along, having less gun means less to carry and be in the way
Another great reason to have your scope covers flip down is in case the springs fail so it won't close on you when you need them most. That would suck!
haha a rifle built by noveske with a larue rail, guess they really knew who made the best rails , wonder why they try n talk shit on em now.., LARUE OR NOTHIN AT ALL
Harder to describe than to see.. I suggest you look it up.. basically 'regular' is more squared off, 'polygonal' is more rounded .. but thats a lazy answer, look it up on google pics or something and you'll see what I mean
@IrishPuglover3565 if i recall correctly, auto sears for ar-15s are only 10k right now, but like he said, just get the tax stamp($200) and then the cost of the rifle. then you can build as many uppers as you want for your sbr lower.
@vinnyraf The only way you can put an auto sear into a rifle and legally own it is if it was registered as a machine gun before May of 1986. You can't just change your registered semi auto AR to a full auto and pay a $200 tax stamp. That is illegal.
@GONZO0710 I know. My post wasn't too clear. Everything after my "but like he said" was about sbring an ar. And the first part was obviously for RDIAS... Since rdias are considered the machinegun, you can drop it into any reciever... at least that is how i understood it.
@Origin305 yeah, still have to pay the $200 tax stamp, but that is if you can even afford one. In the 1980's the gov't put a restriction on all select fire weapons that civilians without a class 3 dealer's license can only own them if they were manufactured before 1986. this means that they are few and far between and as such are EXTREMELY expensive. the cheapest I've personally seen a transferable one (civilian legal) was for about $13000...yes that's $13 grand.....
the shortestbarrel on a rifle you can LEGALLY own without a federal tax stamp is a 16". pay the 200 bucks and you can own any size you want...assuming sbr's are legal locally
that gun is destined to be a safe queen. You are a little bitch and you probably can even zero the rifle let alone know what to do when you encounter a stoppage.
Have fun when the zombies eat your asshole because you have a safe full of rifles you dont know how to use.
@leeleatherwood what in the fuck is wrong with you? sounds like you have one of the worst cases of small penisitis i've heard of in a while, seriously, jealousy, dont let it get to ya
I was thinking about the scout light, but the m961 surefire stuck out to me more. The M961 is like a mini spot light, it can look out over 100 yds in clear dark weather.
question here.... in comparison with 16" how do the sbr's compare in accuracy? are they the same? i want to build a 11.5 7:1 sbr....but unsure if i want to commit if there is a difference in accuracy
MerKWork - I live in Indiana as well and have built a few Short Barrel Rifles. My personal one is a Novekse as well, straight from Noveske Rifleworks. 10.5in. It took 4months from the time I mailed it to the BATF until I had my NFA Stamp back approved in the mail.
Damn i love that gun...do u have any videos on a long range AR 15? i'm building one starting with a Colt A3 20" HBAR Sporter. But i wanna know what to have for scope rings, camo, butt stock, scope, etc. Just the normal furniture on a long range AR. It would be cool to see what you could come up with.
Our editors, only have 14.5 or shorter ARs but we do have a friend with a 20" AR that we have been trying to get to the range to do some velocity tests..
So, it might be a while but we do intend to cover longer ARs too

@RavenThunder
paint marker, not sure the brand
GunWebsites 1 year ago
@IrishPuglover3565
Well SBR is just the length of the barrel.. so it depends what brand / quality parts you buy.. no 'extra' cost for being an SBR part really
GunWebsites 1 year ago
@IrishPuglover3565
SBR tax is $200.. so pretty much add $200 to the cost of whatever gun

find out local laws first (before you assume anything)
Wait is usually weeks for local then months for national checks
Pain just depends on your point of view some people can't stand the process, others don't mind it
GunWebsites 2 years ago
not very
diderr01 2 years ago
depends on your state
you need to have it arranged to collect from a local class 3 dealer, and pay the tax and fill out the forms.
Great stuff, but always remember that your gun is effectively registered, incase the size of government increases.
jebustheone 2 years ago
IT is the same for everyone.. just a tax and background check
Military & Police have nothing to do with NFA firearms, they don't get a pass, or even ahead in line.. they are the same as everyone else
As long as you are not a criminal, or other prohibited things on 4473 you should be fine to get an NFA item
assuming you don't live where crazy laws prevent it
