Tornado chase April 23, 2011 Gainesville, Texas + hail + wall clouds

that wall cloud was massive, if that was on the ground, this would've been a long-track tornado.

I have a brief 15 second video of the same wall cloud, different angle. At the 499 exit facing the stockyards. Once it started pulling down and I realized what was going on I headed back inside. I can't post a video response here but you can just get to my page by clicking my name :)

What radio station were you listening to?  We normally listen 1080 AM but there was so much static from the lightning that it would not come in.

@orbitalgigi It was a textbook wall cloud. Surprised that it didn't produce a tornado.

I keep a hand-held scanner with the NOAA Weather Radio frequencies programmed in.That way wherever I go there's usually at least one station within range. Because it's in the VHF band there's virtually no static from lightning like there is on AM. If I listen to AM it's usually WBAP. Most of the time I listen to XM - also static free and always comes in except under an overpass...

Hey there! I was at exit 499 right under it... was a beautiful experience. I have a few photos I took from my phone and 2 very short (15 second) videos of this. Kept my mother, daughter, and grandkids in the bathroom as I went outside. Truly life changing.

@maulee2008 Yes. From 2009 -- Lone Grove, OK tornado -- and 2010, another tornado N of Lone Grove. The 2009 tornado occurred at night and caused 9 fatalities. Search for "tornado" on the channel to see the other videos.

Today (April 26) is a high risk day from NE Texas to western Tennessee, but that's a long way for me to drive. Chances are high that there will be some bad tornadoes tonight in those areas.

@WExARExTHExDANCE The channel has 1050 videos, 1040 of which are of bodybuilders. If you don't like the weather clips, don't watch them.I get maybe 10 chances a year to do a good chase. I can and do shoot bodybuilders every month...fair weather or foul...
