Hey Dave, what is the name of that guitar? I can't find the name anywhere, and I for some reason I have a grown interest in it. What can you tell me about it?
Also, for some more legato stuff I think it would SUPER cool if you went over some Allan Holdsworth solos. Especially the solo from "Devil Take The Hindmost". The craziness starts around like 2:00 I think. But yeah, I would love to see what you would have to say about some of the content in his solos.
This is a really cool riff, Dave. I love your use of chromaticism here. It's fun how just one little chromatic note (the F#) can add so much color to a run.
lmao...sorry Dave, I understand the frustration you probably feel when it comes to dealing with morons. Thanks for making these vids man, you truly kick ass, and inspire me to put my own shit up. Thanks for all you do for us man, I've learned so much from you, and you've definitely contributed to bringing the guitar community closer.
for the trillionth time.. tabs are coming. It's going to take a lot of time so not any time soon, so use your ear and WATCH THE VID to figure out the riffs.
PS - anyone with tab/notation software that wants to help out and do some tab, let me know.
I dont know, I wouldnt... It attracts lazy people who just want to read tabs, rather than using aural skills that should be developed to make you a better player.
@theoak84 It's not whether you're lazy or not. Some people just want to know a couple licks to show off in front of friends. It's the diference between what you want out of guitar, if you look towards the musical side then auditory learning is better suited but those who just want to play some fun licks might as well learn that way.
Exactly, if you start off learning the proper way to go about developing musical skills, knowlege and improv, youll find that 5 min videos like this, are a walk in the park. Ive sat down one day, and blew through 20 some odd videos of Daves. They are very good, they have lots of new ideas that i didnt know before hand. And the point is, i can take in more information than a 'tabber' because im more musically equipped. So do you want to learn one video a day, or 10? its your choice.
@theoak84 There is no proper way to learn a song, that's an objectively debatable topic. If someone chooses to learn by tab and they progress faster then they would by ear then use that method. In the end you have the same final product, someone who has learned musical phrasing, whether knowingly or by force of habit through tabbing. But calling someone lazy because they learn through an alternative method isn't valid, they just choose a way that is more suitable to their learning type.
@theoak84 I see your side though, personally, learning to recognize intervals is a great tool however some see it as a more difficult sometimes impossible way of learning.
...and tab is a great help for those people, and it feels great when you start to move away from the tab and use the ear, but it's all about pace, and it's nice to have choice. Plus the internet is bloated with tab and some of it is good (though a lot isn't) so I'm sure someone will breeze through tabbing Dave's stuff.?
@stymye Like I said in my previous comment, some people don't want to be great guitarists and just simply want to learn a couple riffs so they can jam with their friends. And as Boxvid said it's great for beginners.
Or, it helps beginners with their hand positioning and learning the fretboard. Not everyone is in an environment where they can tune their aural skills all of the time, and people watch these videos on crappy laptops that don't sound like Dave's in the same room. You'd deny them the chance to learn the riffs? How noble of you.
What is with the attitude? I havent said anything in opposition to what you said. Internet bullies are pretty pathetic..
Ear training, technique and other elements that make music are all important to being a musician. Music is, in many ways, a non linguistic form of communication. Communication calls for being able to hear what is going on...that is ear training. Technique is also paramount. Theory is also crucial in my opinion...though some dont bother with theory
@BloodyFingers101 They're really sweet, I have a professor whose husband works for Apple developing games and stuff like that and she got one right before they came out. Her's didn't do it but a ton of them are draining battery life really bad on keyboards or laptops but other than that I've heard good things. Also I think that problem has been fixed on the ones ordered now.
Dave: I've finally recieved "Where Wild Things Are" blu ray, and dude, your playing is insane!! I really loved that you appeared more in this video, congratulations my friend. The best Holidays for you Dave.
What a completely stupid and immature thing to same about someone...GROW UP!!! Dave takes a lot of time and creativity each and every week to actually TEACH us something...where else can you get a professional musician to dedicate this amount of time for FREE...Unbelievable..... Thanks Dave for another great ROTW you rock man!

you don't use a cheat sheet to learn golf and you shouldn't rely on tab to learn guitar...unless your goal is to play like a programmed robot.
how many great historic guitarists learned to play from memorising tab? ...name just one..sir
