First of all, you made very good point. I wish you would have made such claims to carry on YOUR argument sooner rather than wasting spaces (and my time) with nonsensical insults. Either that or just go away. Let me be clear, I have no problems with bands who come up with merchandises such as t-shirts and baseball caps because one, many of them do represent albums, songs and bands in general. Even something like Kiss' lunch box, I could swallow that. I've mentioned that before.
Kiss' lunchbox is for kids same way Kiss t-shirt is for grown up. It reflects their identity as fans. But you do have to admit that when someone even produce something like credit cards or condoms with the name of a band, they do give that very strong impression of business-oriented marketing strategy rather than part of musical endeavor. This is one of main reason why Gene Simmons get so much heats and some aspect is epitome of exploiting both band and music for profits.
I'm personally not a fan of Twisted Sister's music but Jay Jay did made very good point that he think Gene Simmons doesn't respect his fans. It's different when someone like Dave Mustaine(who I no longer care for in many aspect) start his business with coffee without using Megadeth as a brand while still concentrating on his music career. As arguable as it is, Gene Simmons do come out profit-driven businessman who only look at his fans as mere consumers.

I am very critical of Gene Simmons non-music related marketing and turning a band into a brand(which Gene Simmons himself admitted of doing) to the point where someone of his former band member will admit this and there are signficant number of musicians who are just too embarrased by this, I fully recognize that this is the way it is. This is really weird back in the 70's the band got the same respond no one liked them..They were considered a bubble gum band that had a selected audience which were young kids who mostly got off on there outfits..And now people still hate them...Myself i didnt care for them.. who would if you had a chance to see Pink Floyd or Deep purple in concert or even CCR..There were to many outstanding bands out there to even consider Kiss..In Toronto i was in a elevator once that played kiss music..

There are other musicians who start their business and make products outside of music and their bands just to make some extra cash. None of these guys use their band name as brand the way Gene Simmons does. Although Gene have every right to start he's own business and make money, it is disgraceful to Kiss music to commodify Kiss as a band into a brand. Even some of his former members have agreed as well as his former fans and other musicians.
Why the hell should I have a brand? Bands can be "brands" in certain aspect but most of bands do so to support their music. A bands have t-shirt that represents their album same way they tour to support their albums. Gene Simmon commodifies Kiss as a brand that only supports himself. Dolls, lunch boxes, credit cards and even condoms? He's turning his fans into mere consumers. This shouldn't be viewed as identical with what other bands are doing.
Yeah, I mean anyone can enjoy Kiss' music if they want to. But they need to put their love for this music aside and be more factual and critical. One can't possibly agree everythhing with Gene Simmons because they like his music. I don't know whether you watch That Metal Show but they had a guitarist from Twisted Sister couple of years ago where he made exact point against Gene Simmons' business-oriented manipulation of both Kiss as a band and their fans.

Kiss' lunchbox is for kids same way Kiss t-shirt is for grown up. It reflects their identity as fans. But you do have to admit that when someone even produce something like credit cards or condoms with the name of a band, they do give that very strong impression of business-oriented marketing strategy rather than part of musical endeavor. This is one of main reason why Gene Simmons get so much heats and some aspect is epitome of exploiting both band and music for profits.

I'm personally not a fan of Twisted Sister's music but Jay Jay did made very good point that he think Gene Simmons doesn't respect his fans. It's different when someone like Dave Mustaine(who I no longer care for in many aspect) start his business with coffee without using Megadeth as a brand while still concentrating on his music career. You know what, y'all... there comes a point where one is established and legendary and it doesn;t matter if they have fun and do some commercials here and there.
Also, it's not like KISS spent their early days singing about government corruption and the evils of corporations... they sang about sex and sex and then about how great they felt all the time and then about sex. If a band's catalog is entirely about thrills, then how does doing a soda commercial make them sell-outs?
