  • "You'll have a change to choose your appearance"

"Oh..... well, that's not so bad..... BUT I WARN YOU, I'M VERY PARTICULAR!" lol

  • This is the last time he's onscreen besides multi doctor stories, but he didn't regenerate here.

  • @Starguy256 well it's implied that he did. you don't see the actual regeneration take place.

  • 'The time has come for you to change your appearance and begin your exile.' It's not even implied, they say it outright. But that's not what happens, he's exiled, but doesn't regenerate.

The war games is the first time the doctor goes back to gallifrey since he stole the TARDIS. But in the five/two doctors, he is working for them. He also had full control of the TARDIS, but he never did before the exile. In the two doctors, he has grey hair and mentions the fact that he's been exiled.

  • This episode is one of the saddest in the show's history, in a good, well done way. Much like The Destruction of Time.

  • He was sentenced by the Time Lords due to the fact that he had broken their law of time line interference . The tardis originally landed in a zone occupied by a bunch of warlords that had brainwashed humans. as a result he sought out the Time Lords to return all of the humans back to their appropriate time lines.

  • @j0sheed00d He broke the law of time and space (i think) and he had to regenerate and start a exile on earth.

  • NO No No No No NOO

  • I always found it rather dark that the Second Doctor is essentially being executed and it's being played for LAUGHS.

  • actually the BBC had not yet hired the actor to replace Troughton, so all you see is him spinning around. Pertwee was hired shortly after this, thus the 3rd Doctor stumbles out of the Tardis instead of Troughton changing into Pertwee

  • i`d laugh my ass of if someone edited a version so when he looks at the screen he sees future doctors.

he`s to old! = jon pertwee

he`s to fat isn`t he! = colin baker.

noooo he`s to thin! = david tennant

    he`s to young! = matt smith !!!

i`ve never see such a incredable bunch! all the other doctors go scrolling by.

  • @thanqualthehighseer

    you should do it!!

  • @thanqualthehighseer SFDebris does pretty much EXACTLY that! Check out his video "Doctor Who 101".

  • YAH MAKING ME GIDDE!

  • 13 people are daleks and im not... hahaha lolz cool video

  • Why did the doctor regenerate by force? And I hope somebody don't mind telling me what is a exile?

  • @j0sheed00d exile meens that he is traped on earth and the time lord have take his knowlage of the tardis away so he cant use that to escape its like bing sent to a low security prison

  • @j0sheed00d the doctor was regenerated by force because the time lords sentenced to have a force regeneration (i don't know what the crime is though)

  • Can somebody please tell me what happened after this part?

  • funny faces at2:08

  • The whole "change of appearance" thing feels so forced. With the concept of regeneration, it could be taken as an execution; they force him to end one of his lives and to experience the pain of death. But if it's a mere change of appearance, it's just so...underwhelming...like it couldn't be more obvious that real-life demands were writing the script.

  • @AwesomeMcKillington He has been sentenced that is the time lord equivalent to an execution

  • Romana dealt with her regeneration with so much less drama

  • So...Dumbledore, Teddy Roosevelt, or Robert Frost?

  • The thin guy looks a little like David Tennant.

  • at 2:05, did he say puzzles ?

  • Is everyone here so obsessed with Tennant as The Doctor that they're now seeing him in the classic series? -_-

  • 1:33 DAVID TENNANT?!!

  • 2:43 hands up in the air and wave em round like yu jus dont cair

  • 1:36 which wuns tu yung?

  • 2:00 peepul on erth n tattera... ere! grivi lu. el possumph! Aaaaaaahhhhhhh! wats happenin?

  • 2:02 peepul on erth n tattera... ere! grivi lu. el possumph! Aaaaaaahhhhhhh! wats happenin?

  • just imagine if the guy at 1:31 was the 3rd incarnation of the doctor

  • 2:56 nonononononononononononono!

  • At 1:34 - I jumped. That looks remarkably similar to Tennant's Doctor.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if they put up hitler and he said " HE'S FRIGGING DEAD"

  • The one that was "too skinny" reminded me of a slightly-too-long-faced version of Tennant.

  • I always wondered if that one really counted as a regeneration since it didn't really seem like one to me. I know he counts it as one and the show has never taken the position that it wasn't but still.... :)

  • funny, i started watching the more recent ones, I thought the time lords were extinct

  • @VashWolfwood1 they are on the more recent ones. after the time war the doctor is the only time lord left.

  • @ciankid290 So, was the time war fought in the past, or the future? lol....... time paradoxes are fun!

  • @VashWolfwood1 okay, The time war was fought during the shows 16 year hiatus from television. So essentially from the show with the 1st doctor to the movie with the 8th the time lords are alive. then the time war witht he daleks happened and the series with the 9th doctor began where he's the last time lord.

  • they cut out the part where the tardis lands on earth and pertwee falls out. come on!!

  • @StaraziaSelin66 That was in the next episode, a few minutes into it in fact.

  • The third one looks like David Tennant. :)

  • Great actor, doctor.

  • I have always loved this scene as well as the entire "War Games" story.

  • why is this doctor so old?

  • @natalieiwontforgetu derp, i dunno, maybe he tried to be old and important...

  • @natalieiwontforgetu He explains that in the new series. "I was always trying to be old and grumpy, like you do when you're young!"

  • Stop! Your making me dizzy! XD

  • @want8rulezcp Giddy...

  • Too fat, too thin, too old..... Diversity and inclusion was up and running in 1969 then!!!!

  • stop your making me giddy

  • Bow Ties are cool even back in 60

  • the one with the big head is matt smith now

  • Twelve Regenerations dislike this video.

  • Bowties are cool :D

  • Does this really count as a regeneration, only the Time Lords never expressly state that this is part of his punishment: only to change form, mainly for disguise. Seems a bit close to the idea of a death sentence otherwise.

  • @DrunkRussian2 At the time this was filmed the concept of regeneration had not been clearly defined. Originally the First Doctor was thought to have "de-aged". With the Second Doctor the process was called a "change of appearance". It was later termed regeneration when the Third Doctor changed. In the current series it's been explicitly stated that there have been eleven incarnation of the Doctor, with each change considered a regeneration, including this one

  • @dallan007 Yes, he says that in the Lodger doesn't he, after he nuts James Corden? I wonder how else the idea might have been shown. I know that Pertwee hadn't been cast yet.

  • 2:18 Doctor is regenerating into Moe Howard!

  • Ah, the good old days when the Time Lords were cool, before Robert bloody Holmes got his hands on them. He berated them as "cosmic eunuchs," so what did he do? He emasculated them! o.O

Incidentally, the Time Lord on the left (short with dark hair) was Trevor Martin, who went on to play the Doctor himself in the stage show "Doctor Who and the Daleks in the Seven Keys to Doomsday," in the 70's and just a couple years ago reprised the role for the Big Finish audio version.

  • @MaskedMan66 How dare you insult Robert Holmes the Greatest Dr who writter ever >:( nah just kidding we all have our own opinion ;) but still Robert Holmes is the best Dr who writter ever IMO and The Deadly Assassin if you ask me was one of the better Gallifrey storys along with The War Games and the 4 Trial of a Time Lord storys.

  • @JackWProductions He wrote a lot of good stories; I just don't like what he did to the Time Lords; not nearly as bad as what Russell "I-have-a-rabid-hatred-of-any-form-of-authority" Davies did to them (or to U.N.I.T., for that matter), but anyone who thinks a mega-powerful and mega-wise race is "boring" must have a few screws loose.

  • Il ike the new ones because their bright and they blow shit up. Like when david left he took the tardis with him by blow it up

  • The picture of the man at 1:39 looks like the eighth doctor with shorter hair.

  • That horrible. They made him GIDDY!

  • 1:33 looks kinda like David Tennant except for the hair

  • The third picture was david tennant and the 4th was either sylvester mccoy or Christopher eccleston.

  • he should have picked the fat one

  • Holy hell, how similar are Patrick Troughton and Matt Smith? The way they speak and act is almost identical.

  • @MBGamingLegends yeah matt smith took most of the insperation from troughton's doctor even the costume

  • @MBGamingLegends Just as Tennant's favorite Doctor is Peter Davison, Smith's is Troughton, so no wonder. Major difference is that Troughton didn't let his companions intimidate him.

  • That shouldn't count as a regeneration >:(

  • @LvXGameMaster He changes face so he did regenerate

  • @fechtechtube however it was a forced change, therefore it shouldn't count. I know people agree with me...or not.

  • @LvXGameMaster It was a forced regeneration, so it was still a regeneration. The Doctor has almost never regenerated voluntarily.

  • 2:48 - Best line ever.

  • 1:33 Hi, David Tennant!

  • @TheDoctor176

Be that as it may, IMHO this is the greatest Doctor of all time. I like Matt Smith and John Pertwee. I love the inestimable Tom Baker. But Pat Troughton MADE Doctor Who. Jelly Babies, the weird sense of humour, sonic screwdriver, the wolf in sheep's clothing bit...he did it first. The most clownish and oafish of the doctors, he was also the most dangerous. You don't know how many bad guys laughed at him, right up until he ROFLPWND them Timelord style. 50% teddybear, 50% wolf.

  • 11 people are either too old, too fat, too thin, or too young.

  • Jon Pertwee hadn't been cast yet. That's why his face didn't change.

  • The one he rejects for being too thin looks a bit like Tennant.

  • Why are the Time Lords such assholes?

  • @aquagrl63 Well, if you want to think of it this way, the Doctor got the last laugh when he ended the Time War. Except I don't think he'd believe it was anything to laugh about.

  • @heavyarms01h Well he wouldn't have had to kill them all if they weren't such complete dicks. Hey why didn't the Doctor turn into a mega-asshole? Yeah he was kind of a douche at first, but he was never like this.

  • @aquagrl63 I think the reason the Doctor didn't become a total douche is the same thing that sets him apart from all the other Time Lords and what caused them to label him a renegade. He loves other people, other races, and believes wholeheartedly that they need to be defended. He can act stuck-up and cranky and proud of his race, but he's truly selfless at heart. The other Time Lords tended to act pompous and withdrawn into their own society, I think, and the Doctor couldn't stand that.

  • @aquagrl63 On the other hand... what I said may very well be an over-romanticization of the Doctor's point of view. There's a good comment below by MaskedMan66, I think, about the Time Lords' reasoning behind their super strict rules against "interfering" with other planets and events. It really can make them seem like jerks, especially since they are often so heavy-handed when punishing the Doctor even though he just saved the universe. Of course, they REALLY went nuts during the Time War.

  • @aquagrl63 I guess because they knew he would blow their asses all up someday

  • spastic...

  • The Doctor's worst fear. Daleks? no. Cybermen? Nope. Regeneration? Not really. Awkwardness and Getting Giddy? OH GOD YES MOST TERRIFYING THING EVER.

  • @Jessiegurl77 Nicely put! =P

  • Another glitch in the story really, what are timelords doing forcing the doc to regenerate for? What's the reason he needs to change and since when did he get to pick his appearance? That implies he can know what he'll look like before it happens and I don't recall that in the new Who plotlines. They haven't repeated that one again.

  • @bluejeckett For your first two questions watch the clip again. Also, I don't recall either of the new regenerations being down to the Timelords.

  • @thejacalofskaro74 plus the timle lords were kind of time locked

  • @bluejeckett could be punishmen coz in regenerating he loses one of his lives mind you its never actually said whether this was a regeneration or just a change of apperance or even a regeneration that they gave him and not one of this lives

  • @bluejeckett Actually, the idea crops up again when the First Romana changes to the 2nd, she was able to choose several times, and even went back again to the "Princess Astra" model.

  • @craigtcaster Yeh Ive seen that, that was gay

  • @bluejeckett Not a glitch at all. The Doctor was put on trial for interfering in the affairs of other worlds and peoples, which is strictly forbidden by the Time Lords' charter. They protect the balance of time and space and thus are defenders of the universe, but they stay out of other beings' business unless reality is threatened.

And of course the Doctor knows what he's going to look like; he's met his other selves several times.

  • @MaskedMan66 Hmm that last point u make is apt, not heard someone pick that up before and not thought of myself. It could explain away knowing how hell look but in which case one could argue the second doc would already know he doesnt end up with nay of those faces but the third, which he clearly doest so then he cANT HAVE met his third incarnation, which ofcourse we know he has in the five docs so that falls down and implodes on itself Im afriad.

  • @bluejeckett The Second Doctor met the Third twice, in "The Three Doctors" as well as "The Five Doctors." I think it was just a vain effort on his part not to become the Third. In retrospect, it's interesting watching "Spearhead from Space" and seeing the Doctor (still with his second identity swirling around in his head) looking at his new face and saying, "Oh, no!" as he realizes he's become "Fancy Pants." Soon enough, the new personality takes over.

  • Gallifrey is NO more....unless the writers somehow revived it.

  • @Wellch I hope they do, and that the Time Lords have all trace of the influences of Robert Holmes and RTD removed from them.

  • Well, he's too fat isn't he!

  • 1:35

Is it just me, or does that look like David Tennant?

  • @JustPhilNY More like Peter Davison to me.

  • this one was funny

  • Thumbs up if you think the first picture is Dumbledore

  • @JoeConcerts He looks more like his brother

  • @TheMasterShake Hmm, he does definitely have the fierceness of his brother, wouldn't say he fully does in my view.

  • How Gallifrey should be - The show at its most majestic

  • Maybe that's why he never returned to Galifery, he didn't want to face his kids about it. This really is unusual territory for Old Who :)

  • @blackphoenix From their point of view, they probably thought exiling him to Earth would cure him of his 'unhealthy' fixation with Earth. The Time Lords, for whatever reason, seem to have shut themselves off from the rest of the universe and have become very insular and repressed. Ah, one of the series's many great mysteries... You can see how The Doctor could have become frustated with that society and want to leave, and why he took Susan with him.

  • I saw this on DVD about a year ago and despite reading the novelisation when I was a kid and knowing what was coming, I was shocked at just how dark this scene actually is. Time Lords, not half creepy, eh?

  • I cried when I first saw this regeneration on dvd--it was so unfair!! the Time Lords were total pricks! Why the Doctor always gets all misty about them is beyond me. I have this on dvd...the one the Doctor says is too thin looks a bit like Peter Davison!

  • 2:11 lol, funny faces

  • I love the creepy music that plays in the regeneration scene

  • i like this regernation its likes tennants cause either didnt wanted to go

  • @TheWhuever Yeah. Poor little two, you can really see he's panicking, but desperately trying to keep himself together in the face of death, because that's how awesome he is.

That Time Lord judge, however, is some real jerk. He must be thinking: "I hope we get to execute him 12 times more!"

  • @KendrixTermina The Time Lords were doing what they had to do, and the Doctor knew that; as the saying goes, "It's a fair cop." The Doctor just didn't want to turn into "Fancy Pants."

  • it is odd how much that "too thin" sketch looked like David! hahaha And 2 really was kind of whiny wasn't he?

  • Man, i wanna watch all the old Doctor Who's so BAD!!! Sadly, i came into the Doctor Who fold when Christopher Eccleston was the Doctor.

  • @thephantom0 Check Dailymotion, and search for a user called tardismedia

  • @thephantom0

I would NEVER suggest torrenting them. I bet they are NOT all available as torrents. The ones that survived, that is. YOU CAN'T get the entire series of Hartnell, and a few of the Troughtons via torrent, as well as the Pertwees and Bakers. SO DON'T search for Doctor Who on isohunt.

  • I mean it's a shame his face didn't change right in front of us

  • The War Games is a great story

  • omg patrick troughton sounds like jon pertwee

  • 1:35 he looks just like Tennant!

  • Has anyone heard Patrick Troughton's son David recently? I think he could portray his father's role in the Big Finish audio productions!

  • .... does this count as a regeneration?

  • @ObsessedProductions That depends, there's a popular theory that suggests that rather than regenerating immediately after this episode he was forced to work for the time lords before being exiled.

  • @ObsessedProductions - It did, the Time Lords executed him for his meddling in time and exiled his next incarnation to Earth (by sabotaging his Tardis). Just as Romana later (who regenrated after a dangerous radiation poisoning which wasn't immediately fatal) it seems you *can* have some control if you regenerate while your body still is somewhat intact, but the doctor has always clung to any life so never used that option.

  • 1:41 Spike Milligan?

  • Boris Johnson looks slim in this.

  • I've never seen an episode with this doctor but I love him already. :D

  • @AngelGhostchild Troughton was really good. I suggest tracking down the episodes of his that still exist (many were wiped from the BBC archives, sadly).

  • @AngelGhostchild

OMG He is awesome. Most of the aspects of the 4th, 10th and 11th Doctors that people love, were developed by Pat Troughton. Grab his surviving eps, he is SO fun to watch. And his companions actually help him, as much as he helps them. Try "The Tomb of the Cybermen", "The Dominators", or "The Mid Robber".

  • If You look at the pictures, funny thing noone notice this but me..

One of the pictures shown, look like the ninth doctor from the new series.

  • "That wont do at all!" ..... personally, never saw a problem with Barry Chuckle!

  • you can either be leonardo da vinci, rambo or david tennant!

  • @StegoOnVenus LOL, pretty much!

  • Too Old = Santa Claus' Love Child

Too Fat = Norm & Fat Bastard's Adopted Son

  • even the dog is regiestered

  • I think he was meant to look more like Peter Cushing. One of those in-jokes they love so much.

  • anybody noticed that the third choice of appearance..the one "too thin" looks like David Tennant?

  • awesome

  • Great Scene and thanks for the history lesson. I notice you didn't give the Original air date for this Episode in the description as you did with the first(?)

  • loved the vid, could you check mine out :) keep it up!

  • Of all the Doctor's regenerations I find this one the most disturbing because, basically, the Time Lords are executing the Doctor's 2nd incarnation. It's a horrible ending for the cosmic hobo.

  • It didn't end here - the multi-Doctor stories (Three Doctors, Five Doctors & Two Doctors) where the Second Doctor clearly has post-War Games memories indicate that this was a sham and that he actually went on working for them until eventually regenerating and being exiled to earth. In the Two Doctors he even had Jamie with him. But yes, this does look kinda harsh.

  • Oh, I know this wasn't the actual end for the 2nd Doctor because he was rescued by the Celestial Intervention Agency for "Season 6-B" adventures...but I do get the impression that once the CIA were finished with him they sent him right back to exactly the same point from which they rescued him.

  • @ApocalypseNext

There is no reason to believe those were "Post Wargames" memories. He had centuries of life as Troughton, and many years with Jamie. Not every second was documented on air. I have never bought that bit that they threw in with the comics about him suddenly getting a reprieve and NOT regenerating after they made his face into play-dough. It seems perfectly clear he was forced to regenerate on the spot and sent to Earth. The rest was ret-conned.

  • @brueckedude Then how, in the 5 Drs, does he know what happened to Jamie and Zoe? That's why he realised they weren't real - they shouldn't remember him. He spoke about it in the past tense, indicating that it had already happened in his personal timeline.

In the 2 Drs, he actually says he was sent by the Time Lords. Now why would pre-War Games 2nd Dr be working for the Time Lords? He's also visibly older - they don't try to make him look the same age, eg by dying his hair.

    "No reason"? hmm...

  • that regeneration was funny ...''no no no no no no no''

  • "you can't just change my apppearance, without consulting me!"

"You will have an opportunity to choose your appearance."

"Oh. Well, that's not so bad..."

lol Oh, Doctor, we love you so!

  • matt smith is LUSH

  • weird cause personally i think his head looks funny

  • lol

  • @shakeyphil

    lol!

  • @shakeyphil lol

  • @shakeyphil what the fuck are you talking about. at least half of that is absolutely wrong. i guess you don;t like matt colin or the real mccoy

  • @shakeyphil Hahaha

  • @shakeyphil Colin baker..fat? not when he was the doctor..and he isnt that fat now. lol

  • @LoveTimeLord hes probally dead now

  • @LoveTimeLord hes probally dead now

  • @LoveTimeLord hes

     probally dead now

  • @shakeyphil Tom Baker - Too insane

  • @shakeyphil lmao
