  • Robin William's FINEST work bar none!

  • Oh childhood memories! :)

  • Harry Nilsson is a genius. Nuff' said.

  • Thumbs up if you think they should have had Eugene The Jeep in this movie!

  • i love this movie. saw it when i was 5.. so good

  • Such a sweet song...and yes it makes me cry too :-)

  • My ex wife used to look at me like I was crazy when I would sing this song to my baby boy. Don't know why but this song has always stuck with me. Probly the only song I know from a movie by heart. Every kid should feel this kinda love from their daddy. Life is to short to hold back.

  • This was my favorite song from this movie when I was little.

  • such a sweet song!

i always cry when i hear it...

  • I CRY TOO when I hear it!!!!!

  • @magog1138 No, it sounds like something Harry Nilsson would write. Because it was.

  • ALWAYS loved this movie!

  • This is one of the very first movies i ever remember seeing as a toddler. Such a great, underrated classic. This is such a sad, heart breaking scene from an otherwise fun and cheerful movie. Swee'Pea was so adorable. Watching this movie always brings back so many great childhood memories for me.

  • One of the most wonderful moments in film.

  • This sounds like something John Lennon would have wrote. :)

  • Remember watching this on telly 15 years ago after being seperated from my kids.....Got my son with me now and It's impossible to explain to him how much this song buried into me......Right into the soft spot.....Awesome. How talented was Harry Nilsson....So sad that he is largely forgotten nowadays.

  • This stinks of Harry Nilsson....Did he write it..? Gotta know, I love Nilsson

  • @captainkundalini1 Yes, as well as the rest of this movie's songs, except of course for I'm Popeye the Sailor Man by Sammy Lerner.

  • Lump in my throat...bout set to deploy!!!

  • the soundtrack (incl. this song) is now on itunes! :D!

  • Man anybody would listenin' to this specially if u gotta son or stepson, no matter how hard they "claim" to be cuz I just got finished shedding a few I'm fron new Orleans, home of some of the hardest.

  • @Mahogany1974 the cute little boy is played by Wesley Ivan Hurt. wow, this Dec. 12th, 2010 will be the movie's 30th anniversary.

  • This lullaby always get me crying like a little bitch, especially the you could have came from heaven part

  • Hey don't feel bad, cause this song makes me cry too.

  • Its actually sad they don't make movies this genuine anymore.

  • Popeye came out when I was a junior in college, and I dragged my poor college girlfriend to see it multiple times. I just love this film!

  • an ausome film with quality music, one of my all time favorites!!

  • i know i posted before about me crying to this song but it does still make me cry this song is a real tear jerker and i dont care who makes fun of me for it,

  • @legenderyIan I know I don't. This song brings tears to my eyes, too! The music is beautiful! Always loved this movie.

  • someday when you're older, i'll tell you about me. - love from popeye. Harry nilsson is a genius

  • Makes the hardest of hearts into Jell-o

Bottle w/ note goin into ocean always gets me right here.

  • A great movie,........the songs are unforgettable.A timeless classic.I truly enjoy watching these clips.thanks from all of us fans who love this. And a very big thanks for taking the time to put these up.Your hard work is appreciated, sir.:0)

  • makes me cry. (not kidding)

  • Hey don't feel bad I use to cry to this part when I was a teen watching this.

  • this song, and the this film, are sorely under appreciated.

  • Yep... :-) I love ya Daddy... This song keeps me close to him.....

  • I never knew who wrote the songs for this film but as soon as I heard this I thought "Nilsson". Lovely. Pity it's so short.

  • Man, I'm sure if you forced anybody to watch this, no matter how hard and cold they are, they'd be bawling like a baby by the end of it.

  • It's just such a heart wrenching moment when he drops the bottle in the water

  • I think of my dad who passed on July 13, 2009.. I miss him very much.... This brings back bittersweet memories of him and me watching this film all the time... I miss him....

  • My father passed away a few years ago. He took me to see this when I was seven, and I remember that day clearly. We watched this many times afterwards on video, we both loved it and he loved this song.

I think one of the greatest things we can do to honor our fathers is to remember them at moments like this with fond memories.

  • @nvmbrsdoom5 nice comment i watched this to with my father ..he is still alive but i can imagine what a memory you have.....its seared in your heart..and thats a good thing

  • reminds me Cohen´s Halleluja.

  • Wish I could find a clip where Swee'Pea whistles to indicate that the winner in the horse race would be Sucking Lemons.

  • watch?v=31lFUZRjv_w

  • @dyadtwo Search for "popeye what am I and all your wishes will come true lol

  • The buildings used for the movie are still around in fact they are now a them park here in Malta.

We've seen them and will be visiting them again today to take some photos and soon will put them in a youtube video.

In the meantime have a look at some of our Malta videos by searching for jasalf5959.

  • I really love this song, but I just wish Robin Williams would have sang a little longer.

  • i know what you mean man i been watchin this movie snce i was little my pops put me on this movie. and still i cry when i hear this song and i'm a grown man AND i'm from new orleans one of the hardest places on the map to grow so you right about whole crying thing.

  • also would like to say any one that does not cry or even feel anything from this song has no heart at all, this song is what happans everyday to familys, to me this song means alot and hate ppl that would find it funny to take the piss

  • wow man...great song, so sweet...also (with "he needs me") such great bow that paul thomas anderson gives to popeye in punch-drunk love...i admire him...most filmmakers today sucking balls to raging bull...nobody seems to remember things like these...cheers!

  • i wrote that 4 weeks ago and i still am crying now amazing how some songs have the power to make ppl cry just by the words alone.

another song that makes me cry is sting and fields of gold as that was my nanas funaral song another is 1000 words from the final fantasy 10 game i could keep going but the truth is, ppl can tell how i feel by the music i listen to, so one day i might listen to sting another day i might listen to some dance.

  • omg ... wen the music kicks in .. cnt help bt cry!! glad im not the onli one!!! .. its such a lovely song .. love this film .. always have always will !!!

  • only song to make me cry properly in any film

suppose it makes me cry because it is a child and how the bond is broken by other things like work etc etc

i first heard this 16 years ago when i was 4 and it still makes me cry now.

  • Was the cartoon Popeye really blond without his hat?

  • The cartoon was kinda more bald with a couple drawn in hairs. The comic strip Popeye was a redhead.

  • @freakshowmonkey: No. The comic strip Popeye was initially blond. He was only a redhead later in the comics, such as the one where he and Olive officially marry.

  • Beautiful song. Harry Nilson is truly brilliant. I'm shocked to see so many people moved by this song. I thought I was the only one.

  • I want this album... That baby is so sweet.. God Bless Robin Williams...

  • :)

I aint gonna eat no spinach!

  • Thanks for posting this clip...this is such a lovely song...who knew Robin Williams sings...i have never heard anyone else sing this....

  • HaHaHa forgot I made the same comment before LOL

  • I used to cry at this song all the time when I was a kid

  • I can't believe this baby (Altman's grandson) is frickin' 29 years old already!

  • Swee'Pea's Lullaby

  • @essexboi1993 Harry Nilsson wrote all the music for Popeye you can here his demo version of Swee' Pea's Lullaby here on youtube Harry Nilsson - Swee' Pea's Lullaby

  • Bluto is the only one who doesnt like this, its ok Bluto you help make Popeye who he is and we thank you for it. :)

  • @sammymommy it was written by Harry Nilsson their is a video on youtube with him doing his version of it :)

  • I really love this song. It really touches my soul. It's unorthodox and full of love. It makes me teary sometimes too. I sing it to my son to get hime to quiet down. Thanks for the post and the comments.

  • I don't know what chokes me up more, this song or St Judy's Comet by Paul Simon. Nothing like a fathers love!

  • This movie is a flood of memories...I wasin 4th grade and obesessed with comics and caroons and this was the first Live Action Comic Movie I ever heard of and saw...I have seen it off and on over the years but...this song stayed with me and will through my days...so sweet it too chokes me up...forget it is popeye...this is man writing to his child about how he never thought he'd have love and meaning until he came along...

  • Blanket For A Sail, a lullaby from Nilsson's last album, is just as good. He was perfect for this movie!

  • It still makes me cry..thanks for posting!

  • i love this song, i loved the whole movie but this song touchs me.

  • This song is incredibly touching

  • Son! The last time I heard this song was when my parents were getting a divorce and I started crying when I heard this song. I haven't seen my dad since, I think thats what sparked my tears. It still touches me but not as bad as it used to. Thanxfor posting this song its awesome.

  • GOD I JUST LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! as well as this song!!!

  • I love this movie to. But I'm addicted to the I'm mean, I'm mean, I'm mean you know what I mean. The lyrics are awesome.

  • This song is SO Nilsson. I loved it from the first time I heard it, although I really didn't care for the movie too much. I had no idea that Harry Nilsson wrote it until I started searching for his songs on Youtube. Came to find out he wrote most of the songs for this movie!! What a talent!

  • omg i used to watch this movie all the time as a kid, wow!!!!!!remember this song, rad :)

  • love it, brings back lots of memories :D

    thanks for posting these.

  • You're welcome! Thanks for watching!

  • Robin's got a nicer singing voice as Popeye than his regular voice.

  • This scene almost brings tears to your eyes. The instrumentation is beautiful. I'm actually thinking of recreating this with my own instruments.

  • This sopng DOES bring tears to my eyes - and a lump to my throat. It's so sweet, sad, and beautiful. Reminds me of me & my oldest son when he was a little kid and we were separated (on account of his mom) and we cried for each other.

  • me too!!!

  • I used to cry to this all the time when I was a kid. My mom bought this DVD for me last year while I was recovering from a hernia surgery and I almost cried when it came to this song and damnit I was 26 at the time.

  • I love the words to the song.. I can sing the entire thing. Actually, I know all the words to all the songs in this movie. Love it !!!

  • AW! My favorite scene from the movie! ;-) So sweet...

  • This one of those moments where movies makes you want to cry and yet I had not hear this song since I last seen this movie a long time ago and for the first time this scene makes me cry even though Swee'Pea is not like his comic strip or cartoon counterpart in this movie he is still adorable just as much and the baby who played him was the grandson of the director who directed this movie.

  • yea.. I remember it back in 1980 when the movie came out. I was 10 or 11. I loved this movie back then and I still love it even now. I used to watch the Cartoon on the TV every day at 3:30 when it came on. But when I saw the movie, I quit watching the cartoon. I have owned the DVD for quite some time now..

  • @RedPolarBearRanger: Actually Swee'pea was like his comic counterpart, because when he was first introduced, he was just your average baby. It was not until Segar found that the character stuck with readers that the baby became the snarky little troublemaker he was in the cartoons.

  • @TherealRNO I wish Swee'Pea were like his cartoon counterpart in this movie because he would have taught Bluto and the giant octopus a lesson but hey I didn't even know he was like his comic counterpart here in this movie. Other wise Robin Williams was a great choice as the role of Popeye none the less.

  • @RedPolarBearRanger: Well, even in the cartoons where he was a troublemaking young'n, I doubt Swee'Pea could handle Bluto (unless he had a can of spinach on hand). That's usually Popeye's job. And yes, Robin did a brilliant job in bringing the character to three dimensions.

  • I happpen to watch the DVD tonight.. And I thought about seeing if this song was here on YouTube. Sure enough here it is.. :D

  • Sweetpea kinda looked like one of my nephews at that age. (Both are 6, now.)

  • love the movie

    love the baby!!!!!

Who wouldn't love an adorable physic baby wearing a bag!!!???

  • With an IQ of about half a million?

  • I saw the movie when it first came out and always love this song...it really took me 25+ years to rediscover it..thanks for posting.

  • this song reminds me of my father, long dead.

  • So terribly sweet...

  • Aw, Popeye finally learns how to be a dad!
