@RushNLV On the first album Roddy sang it and as you said he wrote it too. But Terry then sang it live most times... he didn't last year cos he goes off for fag! (That's a cigarette to our US friends)... Roddy ain't the greatest vocalist but he means it and that's what this music is all about.

When Terry really needs a fag, he lights it up on stage. I think he wanted Roddy to be in the spotlight for this song, knowing very well he deserved it. And having read interviews with Roddy, it seems like he wouldn't mind to get some recognition sometimes for what he has done, which is legit.
Good for Terry if it also gave him a break + time to smoke.
not the original singer. he wrote the song, decided to sing it because he never did. Terry Hall always sang this song. So suck it idiot.
