Boyd was part of a tag team called "The Royal Kangaroos" with someone named Sir Norman Charles back in the '70s, and they worked in the Pacific Northwest and all over the Southern US.
i grew up on this stuff memphis was so far ahead of its time. they were hardcore before it was even hardcore. concession stand brawls casket matches they did it all. even had Frankenstien once his name was DR. FRANK Lawler brought him in. great stuff.
@marathonriverrat Go back and watch the 1992 Moondogs/Lawler & Jarrett feud and see how much of that looked a LOT like what ECW would become two years later. As much heat as Lawler & Heyman seemed to have, they were an awful lot alike as bookers.
@DeepSouthWrestling1 Which you can see in Gilbert's booking style. Check out his stuff from early ECW and the GWF and you'll see a lot of great Memphis style stuff in it.
@DeepSouthWrestling1 He can't deny it. Even if it's not directly inspired (which it really is) they can't get around the evolutionary aspect as even Onita has said that his stint in Memphis inspired the way he booked FMW a decade later which, of course, was a template for what ECW would become.
@CombatSportFan Not just ECW but the 98-01 Attitude Era took a lot of stuff from Memphis as well. Mick Foley even said they borrowed stuff to the point of downright copying such as JR Is RAW (Bill & Buddy Show), This Is Your Life (Done by Gilbert/Lawler) and the all out main event brawling style.
@RSXemperor Now I just wonder what it would have looked like if Bill & Buddy Show had been ripped off by say DeGeneration X during their hot heel run of 1999.
Ah yes, the Boa Constrictor. I remember watching this on Pro Wrestling This Week (I think that was the name of the show with Gordon Solie and Joe Pedicino. They would recap action from the regional territories.)
I love how nonchalant Goto and Tojo Yamamoto are as they walk by at the end.

Boyd, Miller and Williams all belong in the wwe hof.

@CombatSportFan : Heyman was pretty close with Eddie Gilbert, who idolized Lawler...

@CombatSportFan : I think ECW owes alot of their style to Memphis, despite what Gabe Sapolsky says...
