There's a certain point in a Shuttle launch where the engines have to be throttled back to go through the region of maximum pressure. Is it possible to throttle back a solid rocket booster like Ares has?
Yeah, they used to use this launch pad for the Shuttle, but they haven't launched a shuttle from this one for a while. It's been closed down so they could upgrade it to launch these new rockets.
Instead we are in the "Age of Soyuz."
