um... it depends on ur budget.

for acoustic, CF Martin & Co. is very famous but quite costly. Gibson and Dean r good too with a wide range(cost) of selection.

for electric, there r just too many good brands to choose from, such as Ibanez, Gibson, ESP...etc.

however, in my opinion, any guitar, as long as it's playable, is good for beginners~ even the old dusty one from ur grandpa! just make sure to replace the rusty old strings^^
