  • It sounds like the All things must pass period 'wall of sound' by George Harrison

  • the only 9 minute song that I've ever listened to the whole thing every time.

  • phil spector + lenny = pure musical bliss!

  • It's Leonard's best song -- any nobody knows, that's how it goes... simply brilliant, far beyond his usual mastery.

  • Thank you for posting this,, years ago i heard this last.

  • Nick Cave wrote a very................ novel, called The Death Of Bunny Munro, about the deATH OF A LADIES MAN.

  • Jarvis played this on his birthday show last sunday. He said it's the sort of record you save for once a year. I'm like that with my Bill Nelson/Be-Bop Deluxe collection.

The wait can be painful sometimes. October the 6th in case you're wondering.

  • his music on this album is a lot better in my opinion than his previous albums, but the lyrics are worse.

  • so love this song....

  • Just heard this for the first time and love it. Sounds like some of the stuff my dad used to listen to.

  • Well I've discovered over a period of a few months that the man I wanted, I don't want anymore. Took me quite awhile to get him too.

  • I like lyrics, often listed to the music just because of the lyrics.... and this is one of the best I've ever heard!

  • has anyone got 'I left a woman waiting'

  • God, I love Leonard Cohen.~

  • "And the last time that I saw her she was living with some boy

who gives her soul an empty room and gives her body joy."

I came here for these words, they haunt me.

  • @AddLies...but even that doesn't work after a few months. Why bother? I prefer my cat on the bed...less hassle. But must agree...the whole poem is a masterpiece.

  • what an outstanding album

  • "Ah the man she wanted all her life was hanging by a thread

"I never even knew how much I wanted you," she said."

    A masterpiece

  • It's just interesting to hear Leo in a different light. Not the best, but I like it

  • epic

  • really nice job Phill and Leo!!

  • i really love this song and appreciate spectors influence.

  • all I can think of is "fatalistic"

  • How can we upload the HQ version?

  • fantastic song

i think spector is in prison for the rest of his natural for murdering this really

  • He makes me so sad in such a beautiful way.

  • this would sound so much better if it was done in a more minimalist style

    spectors a jerk

  • I think Spector was holding a gun to his head >3

  • crossbow

  • Coen is the godfather of gloom

all the younger bands that try to show some angst may as well be singing kidzbop compared to him

Real emo kids listen to Leonard Cohen!!

    :D

  • Cohen is one of the few artists around that expresses true raw emotions rather than conjure up imaginitive ones. Whoever downthumbed this comment was wrong to do so.

  • @clashcitywannabe You know punksters used to like this album when it came out. Spector added funk to the arrangements.

  • @clashcitywannabe

it by far his greates song - and knowbody knows, that's how it goes... Thanks god we have me, to notice it here and know

  • This song gives me a longing for a time in the past. I am not sure what stage in my life it makes me want to return to but there is a certain nostalgic atmosphere to it for me.

  • This song always makes me tear up. Every time. Beautiful.

  • Perfect song - love that tinkly vibraphone (piano?) in the background.

I'll never see such arms again, in wrestling or in love.

  • such a great song, and album..

    Love you Leonard!! Live forever!!!!

  • ce disque est une horreur et un enregistrement de Spector, pas de Cohen qui n'a rien eu à dire

  • Okay, nothing to shout about.

  • My favorite Leonard Cohen album. Really. Phil Spector may have been harsh and dangerous towards his co-partner, he did a really good job.

  • I always get chills scrambling up my spine when I listen to this track ("I'll make a place between my legs, I'll show you solitude" - wonderfully dark). If you enjoy this album, check out the book "Death of a Ladies Man", one of his finest books of poetry.

  • the book is death of a lady's man

  • This one works with that wall of sound and the tower of song

  • triste ma bella, bella davvero

  • this is the most beatiful love song ever

  • This got tainted by being on what is generally seen as Cohen's weakest album (not sure I agree) but is one of his best songs . It shows why he wanted to work with Phil Spector; it was just the wrong time to do it.

  • Among others, Phil Spector, Bob Dylan, & allen Ginsberg are among the listed back-up singers. This song is a brilliant , well structured, physical, mental, & spiritual co-option & destruction of a male at the hands of a woman or women. The final couplet is wry with multiple meanings---Do you go for nothing?

  • the only song dylan and ginsberg actually sing on is dont go home with you hard on

  • I absolutelly love this song

  • great song -- leonard is the man.

  • whats with all the cutlery his talkin about? spoons?

  • It's smth gynecological.

  • HIs voice is still great.... Always was.... Always will be

  • Wonderful. His music always gives me chills.

  • ecstatically melancholy

  • it's just great

  • But, where's his voice gone?

  • phil spector produced and decided to use Leonard's guide track (the track singers do just as a guide to the other musicians for when they do their takes). Leonard was very unhappy because none of his serious takes were put down on final mixes

  • What a song, such imagery. He should re-record it.
