This got tainted by being on what is generally seen as Cohen's weakest album (not sure I agree) but is one of his best songs . It shows why he wanted to work with Phil Spector; it was just the wrong time to do it.

This song is a brilliant , well structured, physical, mental, & spiritual co-option & destruction of a male at the hands of a woman or women. phil spector produced and decided to use Leonard's guide track (the track singers do just as a guide to the other musicians for when they do their takes). Leonard was very unhappy because none of his serious takes were put down on final mixes
