I was 14 and hiding out in my room listening to the radio, in the dark, all night.....sad teen stuff...and I'm a girl....these songs make you feel loved, but by who ? He came for me in 1981 :) I am loved.
You're a child of the 70s/80s if you can remember when Chicago, Boston, Kansas, America, Asia and Europe weren't just geographical locations, but music groups as well. So much better than today......
despite what livgren was going through at the time, these are really inspiring lyrics for people who are losing the will to live. i'm not a big lyric fan at all, but this really helps in those tough times.

This is a great video. I also think this is one of Kansas' best songs. But it doesn't get the mentioning of their more popular hits like "Dust In the Wind" and "Carry On My Wayward Son." Great job!
This song helped me "Hold on" at 12 and still does today. Thank you for the teachings. They are all brilliant writers and the sound is always so soothing to me.
Kansas has always been my number one band and always will be. Tour time?
@famousvim26 The other members are written on the description... But if you're asking about another singer, from what I know, the only singer of Kansas apart from Steve Walsh was John Elefante... He sang with the band when Steve had a "break".
I don't recall what I felt when I wasn't alone... someone who stood by my side, a face I had known. Where do I run when it's too much to bear? Who do I turn to in need when nobody's there?
This is a very christian song, with many christian platitudes, ("on the right track... etc...), but I gotta tell ya, even as a Satanist. I would love me some Steve Walsh.
@wiz9496 Sure. If that helps you sleep better at night. Sure. 'Course, Steve is pretty skanked out nowadays from the booze and the coke, but back in the 70's? Sure. I'd do him.
Hey, I'm a pagan, we go both ways, you know what I'm sayin'? Our gods have no judgement on that stuff. The Satanic Bible says, all sex is good, as long as it's with consenting, human, adults.... (even the Satanic Bible has SOME scruples)..
'Course, Uncle Randy is really an athiest. So, there is that...
They have so may excellent arrangments. A lot of people don't realize what level they were at, not only as a band, but also as individual musicians. They only know the few songs heard on commerical radio. You don't see band of this quality, and talent to often anymore.
@MrRoxide I couldn't agree more with you! Kansas are a lot better than many other more popular bands. And a lot of their songs are far better than their chart-hits like Carry On Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind (though I love these two, too!). Have you listened to "Closet Chronicles"?
such a beautiful song they have a free concert this year at the NY State Fair i learned how to play guitar from their music Kansas is such a talented band hope they never break up hope they keep on playing
@VersinKettorix If you listen to Kansas earlier works(like the first 2 albums),you will get a greater sense of the power that was once Steve Walsh's voice. So sad I can only rely on the 70's albums I grew up with to hear such a beautiful voice(if only he could do even one tune such as Journey from Maribronn today like he did when he was young I'd be ecstatic). To get even a little feel today of a powerful voice I listen to the prog metal band Innosense....
Kansas has been one of my all time favorite bands ever since I got Leftoverture years ago. It pains me to think that most people only know Kansas by "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind." Those are excellent songs, but Kansas has so much more to offer.
@ToujoursLAmour Yeah, same here! I love both "Dust in the Wind" and "Wayward Son" but there are looads of other great songs by Kansas, too, which are unfortunately unknown.

Just saw Kansas at the NIU convocation center with the NIU symphony. They were fantastic. "Hold On" was performed just beautifully.
Sherry2936 4 months ago
I sing this to my mum when I'm on the toilet and she's bursting for a pee.
"Hold on, Mummy hold on"
"You're closer than you think, don't go peeing in the sink"
But in all seriousness, I love this song. Kansas are definitely an extremely underated band.
