  • Now, everybody! Kiss my shaaaaades...

  • Nice.

  • what does he have growing out of his asshole?

  • @chasbo13 No, it's sunshine :) :)

  • @chasbo13

can´t you see it? it´s a bunch of flowers, you moron

  • Amazing!

  • I wish i could dance like Morrissy.....

  • Only Moz can flail around the way he does and make it look good.

  • 2:33 = amazing.

  • lol at the daffodils randomly stuck up mozza's arse:')

  • Oh god when morrissey lifts up his shirt though @_@

  • i would give anything for morrisseys wardrobe<3

  • for anyone who cares to read an old idiot talking, you cannot simply believe what a shock to the system it was in 83/84 to have a group who had a singer, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer playing simple pop tunes again: but even better pop tunes than the ones we'd grown up with in the 70s. Completely without glam flashiness, but odd, slightly dangerous. And yes, heterosexual men found themselves strangely taken with Morrissey in a non-sexual way. But we all wanted to BE Johnny Marr....

  • Go, Rourke, go!

  • Morrissey and Marr, like Lennon and McCartney, is not a great combination you often find... but thank god for The Smiths. Marr, best guitarist of his generation. And Morrissey, the same lyrically. Together ..The Smiths !

  • 0 dislikes - lets keep it that way

  • @edhusse You should never write comments like that. It's just fuel to the fire for some people.

  • @eclectica1 you're right.

  • Great song!

  • @ MrBobbySasquatch

Heterosexual meens straight. You must be a child to not know that, so basically he likes women, but he's in love with Morrissey.

  • a truly amazing band...and Morrissey told people "be yourself and dont give a fuck if people mock you" and that liberated a whole generation...very few bands have such an impact on society...

  • Marr's guitar is mesmerizing

  • hand in glove is about gayzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Aww, no harmonica parts? Or were there ever harmonica parts? Uh...

  • and everything depends upon how near you stand to me

  • MARR AND MOZ ARE BOTH BRILLIANT

  • I guess this is about as timeless As the 80s can get. Johnny Marr hits His Guitar very precisly. Morrissey just lives His Performance. He is on the Stage doing His Job and everything Else just fades Away in His mind.

  • These unappreciative idiots standing so still right in front of the stage just kill me. Don't they realise they're witnessing musical brilliance?

  • @KingAndrew00 maybe that's why they're standing still

  • today, shame on me, i heard joy division on the glen beck show as filler music, at least twice, and than i heard this song on the dave ramsey show, right wing radio station, the question is why the hell was i listening to that

  • mr marr wrote most of the base riffs anyway andy rouke just played them. but it would be nice to have some music with meaning around

  • @dean24uk Rourke wrote all his own basslines. He would jam with Marr and write to compliment his riffs.

  • @frankshankley Whoever wrote the basslines was great at it, too many rock bassists now forget there are more than root notes and dont groove.

  • choss

  • lllddddddrrraaaa!!!

  • Morrissey may be a lyrical genius, but Marr fosho had AMAZING guitar riffs. They're so catchy & rly embody the 80's pop of this band. Rourke's bass lines were just under appreciated. Joyce's drums were spot on. Damn, I wish they were still a band.

  • Why isn't everybody dancing ? What a masterpiece of a song.

  • brilliant

  • morrsey is a lyrical genious...and a gay fish

  • Comment removed

  • Mozza and Marr, brilliant performance

  • best band of the 80s? more like best band ever! ten times better than beatles n kinks n the jam ect

  • brilliant, awesome.

  • Let's not forget how incredible of a bassist Andy Rourke was/is! He was a giant part of The Smiths sounding so good and unique!

  • The Smiths may be the best band of the eighties. Morrissey is a lyrical genius

  • What, even better that Kajjagoogoo? Only joking, I love The Smiths but give that honour to the Roses for that killer 1989 album.

Some great Mancunian bands from the 80s & 90s.

  • how come he didnt do that mumbling thing in the chorus like he does on the recorded version? thats my favorite part of the song...

  • @bassplayer1617 Yeah, he never did/does playing live. Too bad, because for me it's the most moving part of the song,

  • @Reint25 yeah same here it really gives the song a more emotional edge

  • Bliss

  • If ' There is a light' was never written then this would be my favourite smiths track!...They'll Never be another smiths x

  • lolllll the ending

    so fantastic

  • 2:02 how are they dancing lol

  • I borrowed a The Smiths cassette from a girl in 1988,

and I have yet to return it... the guild is crushing...

  • Quality, that comment made me smile haha.

  • they dressed much less ridiculously than a lot of other 80s groups;good for them haha.

  • Yea, that was pretty important for them. They tried to like real and accessible instead of having big, new wave-hair (think Boy George, Dead or Alive).

  • johnny marr!!!

  • Johnny Marr is inhuman.

    Truly mesmerising...

  • best singer ever ♩ ♪♫ ♩ ♪♫ ♬

  • fav smiths song

  • i wonder if that audience knew they were playing live... it sounds so perfect it could be a studio recording.

  • I'm in love with Andy Rourke.....Humble, Sweet & ONE of the GREATEST bass players of all time.... Andy Rourke!!!!!!!!

  • Nobody loves Mike Joyce...

  • I think he was the greatest drummer of the Eighties anyway, with Clem Burke and Stephen Morris being second.

Live intro's of These Thigns Take Time, The Queen Is Dead, Panic... just great, great sound.

  • Great list of drummers. I personally would add Nigel Preston (rip) to that mix of great 80's drummers.

  • Ah, I still have to give The Cult a good listen.

  • He was a junkie, which led to a short career. He played in Theatre of Hate before joining the Death Cult. In terms of recordings with the Cult, he only played on God's Zoo (Death Cult single), Dreamtime (debut Cult album), and She Sells Sanctuary. Dreamtime live is on youtube, and it showcases his talents nicely.

I was stoked that you included Clem Burke. Love him.

  • Well, I think you forgot to put and that list of 80's drummers Pete Thomas (The Attractions, the backing band for Elvis Costello) If you listen to I don't want to go to chelsea there is no doubt that he's one of the greatest

  • No argument from me! The Attractions were excellent!

  • he is very underrated which is a shame as he is an amazing bass player

  • I'm heterosexual... but in love with morrissey

  • same here lol

  • @donniethefly ditto. haha

  • @donniethefly i fuck everything that moves and love morrissey

  • @donniethefly what is heterosexual exactly?

  • @donniethefly WELCOME TOT HE CLUB, MATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful

  • Thanks soo much!

  • i'm speechless...thanks for posting this!!

  • cool as fuck what a band put others to shame

  • he didnt say "kiss my shades" :(

  • He never does live.

  • ....what the heck are you saying idiot

  • God I still love him!! I am almost 40 and I feel like a kid again.

Love the way he dances on stage

  • The Sound of The Smiths, best album

  • I agree, why don't American artist have talent like the British, sigh

  • class

  • As usual they're fantastic. I love them.

  • Great stuff, but not as good as chico

  • The most romantic song of all time.

  • "one of the biggest new bands of this year" if he only knew.

  • THE SMITHS at their best!.

  • yes they are!!!!!

    for sure!!!!!

  • ohh the good life is out there somewhere just stay on my arm you little charmer

  • Sorry mate, I know my luck too well, :D

  • Lol, why do people keep putting their age and birth date?

  • 10th Jan 1978.

  • Old Man

  • Thank you, young pup. Would you like to reel around my fountain?

  • Not really, though I'd like to slap you on the patio

  • Touche! Very good, you handsome devil.

  • 15 june 1978

  • Midlife crisis

  • never thought myself as being in my midlife

more in my late teens I feel....

  • I'm 19 but I feel like I'm 9. Maybe babies feel a mere week old and maybe old men feel...Old? ALL AGES UNITE!

  • what's your problem i do not understand

    do something different.

    do not comment on this!

  • What do you mean 'problem'? What is it about my comments that makes you think I have a 'problem'? Why don't you stop taking my comments so seriously, I was only having a laugh, this is Youtube after all, not the G7 summit. Fucking Dolce.

  • i uesed to go asleep to this song in 89-90, and others, and must say they were addictive for about 6 months or so

  • probly the coolest gay love song i've heard

  • i was born in 1986. am 22 years old now and

i only started listening to this band about 2 years ago..!

    the smiths are awesome,

i wish i was a teen in the 80's to see this band live !

  • very similar to my situation

  • hows come i only first heard these guys 2 days ago. they rock!

  • for the sake of this video, i am currently 21 years 7 months and 5 days old.

  • the perfect teen angst soundtrack... in 1986 there was definitely no better music to party to and fall in love with a nice girl

  • 21, go youths..!

  • i am 15 and my generation are to busy listing to rap, r'n'b and pop music while i listen to argublay the best band of all time well it's their loss. Also hand in glove is a great song it's the best song off their first album

  • 1.24 lol at the dance move. go on mozzer

  • this song really hits the spot...

  • on a night out they was sellin some flowers in this club so i bought one and stuck in the back pocket n danced ma ass off lol

  • I love the flowers in the back pocket and the so-bad-it's-good dancing. we need more performers like moz today. (tori amos does that for me...she really puts on a creative, inspired show, strange body movements and all :-)

  • moz sembra proprio svogliato in questo live

  • I wish I was alive in the 80s.

  • Me too.

  • The only band in the 80s that really mattered

  • what the heck is hanging out of morrissey's pocket?

  • flowers:)

morrissey would always have flowers in his pocket and fling them around and stuff

    back in his Smiths days

  • when they played this charming man on totp morrissey held a bunch of gladioli instead of a mic and whirled it round while the rest of the band were miming

  • Thanks! This is fabulous!

  • uña y mugre --grande los smiths--

  • thanks for reuploading this theoriginalmilo

  • there should be a smith tv appearences dvd released

  • they still do--it's called Urban Outfitters!

UO--overpriced chain store specializing in new clothes that look old, tiny sizes only 13-yr-olds fit (barely!), & "trends" that become trendy b/c they're in the UO window display. Target market=rich white college kids who like thrift store clothes but wouldn't be caught dead appearing poor.

(This from someone who doesn't fit ANY UO pants, yet has a 29" waist. media+marketing=eating disorders? (in men AND women).

  • my prev comment was re: "they sold new clothes that looked old in 80's".

personally, i loved the 80s. But life in 60s/70s would have been best! lennon, mccartney, neil young, bob dylan, tom waits, leonard cohen, joni mitchell, zeppelin, playing shows regularly;voices not ruined by smoking;cops policing actual crime instead of busting college kids for pot;safe hitchhiking.

yes there was racism, homophobia, misogyny 60/70's. but not much has changed! all the "is he gay?" comments are proof!

  • yes, it's back!

  • Thanks for re-posting this great footage!
