I think the key to doing well in this game online is to survive the first 2 corners. Either be before the crowd or be behind it cause it's always gonna be a clusterfuck in the middle.
Hello, think about buying this game, but got some questions. Am i only abled to play online if i buy on steam? and i got the steam demo and its running really crappy online. is that normal?
Since it is online, you can't tell people to not to play and that's why you have qualifying session. Nevertheless there will be people hitting you to pass you illegally, there for there are couple pro tournaments that you can join at the same time and play with pros.
The first corner is the corner where so many get eliminated :), if you can pass through this test without any damages you're good :P.

I do, half the time why i drive slow is cause of others at the first turns, If you notice these are all at the start of a race, once the first bit is over, ill speed up and use lines.

1. Yes you need Steam to play online
2. Probably cause your internet is slow? I dont know what you mean by crappy. lag, or slow FPS

the whole problem is that you just drive too slow man! speed it up a little, give full throttle at the right apex point, and use driving line's
