I used to be a doubter and say some of the same things that I am reading from some of these non-believers.... here is the reality of the situation, you need to accept that God IS WHO HE ALWAYS HAS BEEN.... just because he's not exactly what you want him to be, doesn't change who he is. Look within yourself, be humble and realize that maybe the problem is within yourself.... it was for me.... once I accepted how screwed up I was, and accepted that His way is the only way... it all clicked
God owes us nothing. None of us deserve salvation. To say God is unloving because people will go to hell shows a total lack of understanding. Sin = Death, we all sin, we all deserve death and hell, his grace is an indication of just how loving He is... we as people totally turned against the rules of the 1 who created us, and bc of OUR terrible sins, GOD himself (as Jesus) came and suffered a terrible an humiliating death to make up for our sins against HIM. If that's not LOVE, than what is?

This sure doesn't make God/Jesus seem loving or forgiving. If a human said to his child and threatened that child every day with something as evil as "hell", that human father would be accused of verbal abuse if not worse. That's conditional love not unconditional love. Believing in God out of fear of eternity in hell is not love. We cannot love what we fear. People like this do more damage to my image of a loving God/Jesus and drive more people away from God in my opinion.

I had a very clueless idea of an all-forgiving loose Jesus and I knew of Jesus through personal experience of Him, (despite coming from a non-religious background & never liking religion to this day). Knowing He was real made me happy. Later i had an abortion, traumatic but viewed as 'normal'. If Hell is real and since probably less than one percent of the world's population ever got "born again" and stayed on the straight and narrow, doesn't this fly in the face of Jesus' words which says He leaves the 99 to find the one and doesn't give up until He finds it? It has also been estimated that only about 5 billion of these people have been believers in Jesus Christ. If God starts out with 160 billion people and loses 155 billion of them to eternal torture, how can we say that God is victorious?
@SwordofManticorE I don't care to speculate about numbers. If God saved one person or 5 billion or some other number he accomplished what he wanted. He was victorious over sin either in redemption or perdition. He is glorified (which is the stated purpose of his saving action in Ephesians 1) by what he does and he does whatever he pleases (Psalm 135).

You have accused me of reading my desires into scripture. I would suggest that it is in fact you who has done this. Jerusalem was not a lake of fire and the second death is not a temple being destroyed. The second death is specifically said to be the lake of fire into which Satan was cast.

If there was no propitiation for God's wrath, then I'd agree. But it's not like God left us hanging. Jesus came and bore the wrath of God fully. So by living in Him and through Him, we don't have to bear it. We cant achieve perfection, that's what Jesus did during His time on this earth for us.

You and I could never live up to that standard. So God sent Jesus Christ to suffer the penalty for our sins, so that through faith in Him we could be justified before God (Romans 3:25-26)

@Phendraana Because in order for love to function there has to be the contrast of vice. Which is why God gave Man and Angels free will, and the reason for Satan's rebellion. In the overview of God's planning, I can assume (because I am NOT God, nor do I claim to fully understand everything God does) that God has not yet defeated Satan because for us to choose God we need to know what evil is. The even bigger question then is: Why does God reveal himself to us at all?

It is sin that separates man from God, and sin is the result of pride and free will. God doesnt want mindless drones praising his name, if that were so then there would be no love. @Phendraana Some of your claims are misinterpretations of the Bible. It is not a sin to be justly angry. Jesus got angry at those who mistreated God's temple. Anger is natural and God created us in His image, so anger is a part of us all. Deny sexual urges? Not at all. But sex is designed for marriage (Thats a whole other topic in and of itself). God is a jealous God in the sense that He doesnt want his creations worshiping other idols that didn't create them (this is Oprah's confusion)..
@Phendraana He created angels as well as humans. The cause for sin is God gave all his creatures free will to choose and we chose to defy God, Satan being the first of many. Satan wanted to BE God. And no, God is not "having trouble" evil. God hasn't defeated evil YET. God is gracious enough to allow people who are alive today and future generations the chance to hear his Word, trust in Jesus, and follow Him before he comes back and destroys evil.

I was raised in the church, I went to sunday school, I've read the bible, but I have yet to see one shred of evidence or probability for the existence of god or the supernatural. Does that qualify anybody to opine that such a statement applies to ALL people - irrespective of their religions - Buddhist, Islam, Roman Catholics, Evangelicals, Baptists, Hindus, JWs, etc? Did Jesus atone for every man's sins? If He did, then no one goes to Hell! The doctrine of "Limited Atonement" explains why not all people shall end up in Heaven. Matthew 7:13-14 says ONLY a FEW shall FIND the DOOR that leads to Heaven.

What if you never heard about Jesus at all? Seems a bit unfair to send someone to hell who genuinley has never hard abou Jesus at all. That's if you have to know Jesus in order to go to heaven. Know in the sense of accepting as one's personal Saviour. Jesus does not expect us to accept him as our personal Lord and Savior. Not in the way we have been tradtitionally taught. Jesus already made himself our Lord and Saviour when He died for us.

@JordanRossMackenzie - Galatians speaks of Moses' law, not Christ's law. Righteousness is not found in works, which is what Moses' law consists of. Moses' law also contained laws regarding how to treat one's neighbor, which is what Jesus constantly emphasized. Loving your neighbor was Jesus' answer when he was asked how one inherits eternal life. It is important because to show love to your neighbor is equal to showing love to God. How you treat your neighbor manifests how you treat God.

If you think salvation is through any law or works than you have bypassed the entire context of the Bible, OT and NT. The Gospel in a nutshell; sin entered the world through Adam (Romans 5:19), all have sinned and deserve condemnation (Romans 3:23), Christ did the work of salvation for us....

Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom. Christ was rejected and will return one day to establish His kingdom. In the meantime we are saved by the gospel of the NT to become the bride of Christ.
@JordanRossMackenzie - It refers to Moses’ law. Christ's law is not a law of works. It's a law of love. The royal law (James 2:8). Any act outside of how you treat your neighbor is a work. Jesus would not issue a contradictory law. In Romans 2:26, two laws are being referenced. How can an uncircumcised man be seen as a circumcised man if he keeps the righteousness of the law? It speaks of the uncircumcised man keeping Christ's law, not Moses' law, which requires circumcision.

So, the author's faith is in what the Son of God says, not what followers of Mose's law say. They say you have to follow "the law", Moses' law. Jesus gave another law to follow: love thy neighbor as self. The author has faith in Jesus and believes following the other law is what saves because Jesus said so, so his faith is in Jesus.
Hell is the grave, He refuses to look at Zech. 14 where people come up to the Feast of Tabernacles and are still sinning. If a human said to his child and threatened that child every day with something as evil as "hell", that human father would be accused of verbal abuse if not worse. He was victorious over sin either in redemption or perdition. He is glorified (which is the stated purpose of his saving action in Ephesians 1) by what he does and he does whatever he pleases (Psalm 135).

God sends good people to heaven and bad people to hell. God - who created heaven and earth - what is His standard of goodness? Revelation 21:8 says that all liars will be sent to the lake of fire
You and I could never live up to that standard. So God sent Jesus Christ to suffer the penalty for our sins, so that through faith in Him we could be justified before God (Romans 3:25-26)

@shadesofblue2000 his car was given to him after years of driving an old truck. for many years he didnt ask for money which nearly destroyed the church. when they do ask for christians to tithe he says for guest and non believers not to give because hes isnt here to take their money. Mars hill has also planted over 300 churches and helped take seattle out of the top ten least churched city in the country, it used to be #1.

Scenario- lets say there's a little old man from a remote, isolated tribe in Brazil. He lived a life of honor, worked hard, loved his family & his fellow tribespeople, and did more than his share to provide for them. But when he dies, he'll go to hell because he never heard about Jebus? SERIOUSLY?

If God is who He says He is then we have to affirm that he is a just and righteous God. @Phendraana Because in order for love to function there has to be the contrast of vice. Which is why God gave Man and Angels free will, and the reason for Satan's rebellion. In the overview of God's planning, I can assume (because I am NOT God, nor do I claim to fully understand everything God does) that God has not yet defeated Satan because for us to choose God we need to know what evil is. The even bigger question then is: Why does God reveal himself to us at all?

It is sin that separates man from God, and sin is the result of pride and free will. God doesnt want mindless drones praising his name, if that were so then there would be no love. God allows evil to enter in the world, God allows us to be tempted by Satan, God allows us to rebel against if we so choose, and finally God allows Jesus Christ to enter into the world to cancel our debt of sin to God and release the hold that Satan has over us. @Phendraana Some of your claims are misinterpretations of the Bible. It is not a sin to be justly angry. Jesus got angry at those who mistreated God's temple. Anger is natural and God created us in His image, so anger is a part of us all. Deny sexual urges? Not at all. But sex is designed for marriage (Thats a whole other topic in and of itself). And no, God is not "having trouble" evil. God hasn't defeated evil YET. I was raised in the church, I went to sunday school, I've read the bible, but I have yet to see one shred of evidence or probability for the existence of god or the supernatural. Does that qualify anybody to opine that such a statement applies to ALL people - irrespective of their religions - Buddhist, Islam, Roman Catholics, Evangelicals, Baptists, Hindus, JWs, etc? Did Jesus atone for every man's sins? If He did, then no one goes to Hell! The doctrine of "Limited Atonement" explains why not all people shall end up in Heaven. Matthew 7:13-14 says ONLY a FEW shall FIND the DOOR that leads to Heaven.

What if you never heard about Jesus at all? Seems a bit unfair to send someone to hell who genuinley has never hard abou Jesus at all. That's if you have to know Jesus in order to go to heaven. Know in the sense of accepting as one's personal Saviour. Jesus does not expect us to accept him as our personal Lord and Savior. Not in the way we have been tradtitionally taught. @JordanRossMackenzie - Galatians speaks of Moses' law, not Christ's law. Righteousness is not found in works, which is what Moses' law consists of. Moses' law also contained laws regarding how to treat one's neighbor, which is what Jesus constantly emphasized. Loving your neighbor was Jesus' answer when he was asked how one inherits eternal life. It is important because to show love to your neighbor is equal to showing love to God. How you treat your neighbor manifests how you treat God.

If you think salvation is through any law or works than you have bypassed the entire context of the Bible, OT and NT. Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom. Christ was rejected and will return one day to establish His kingdom. In the meantime we are saved by the gospel of the NT to become the bride of Christ.

@JordanRossMackenzie - It refers to Moses’ law. Christ's law is not a law of works. It's a law of love. The royal law (James 2:8). Any act outside of how you treat your neighbor is a work. Jesus would not issue a contradictory law. In Romans 2:26, two laws are being referenced. How can an uncircumcised man be seen as a circumcised man if he keeps the righteousness of the law? It speaks of the uncircumcised man keeping Christ's law, not Moses' law, which requires circumcision.

Those who do are justified by the law. Yes, the law of loving thy neighbor as self. Those who do not live according to that law will endure correctional punishment before they are reconciled to God. Ultimately, everyone has been saved per Jesus' death. Not loving neighbor results in an age lasting punishment.

So, the author's faith is in what the Son of God says, not what followers of Mose's law say. They say you have to follow "the law", Moses' law. Jesus gave another law to follow: love thy neighbor as self. The author has faith in Jesus and believes following the other law is what saves because Jesus said so, so his faith is in Jesus.
