Sparring even for sport gives you the wisdom needed to fight a long with the knowledge of it. The Japanese incorporated it into a part of their philosophy and actually used by peasants to fight. Samurai's used judo to attack peasant who weren't worthy of a sword strike. The Koreans used it to secretly strengthen the spirit of their nation under Japanese occupation. The Brazilians also desguised it as a dance.
