  • Joaquin Phoenix totally did it justice. I didn't know much about JC and this film converted me into his music.

  • I truely think JC spirit was with Joaquin during the shooting of this movie !

  • As a Johnny Cash fan i really like this song walk the line!

  • i wanna watch the film again =( wish Film 4 would play the film again

  • JP does a decent job of portraying johnny cash, but when he's singing the songs it sort of sounds like he's trying to force his voice lower and it ends up coming off as unnatural. I loved the movie but his singing sort of took away from the movie for me.

  • Until I saw the movie, I didn't know who Johnny Cash or June Carter were. And, I watched it in 2006 for the first time and fell in love with all of the songs.

  • i know i didnt think anyone could play johnny cash he just too unique but joaquin phoenix is so talented and i think he could play any role really and i'd like it...lol you learned a lot from this movie to. it is i think my fav. movie

  • he deserved that Oscar .. Reese got it she did good but Joaquin did GREAT he never gets his Oscar and i got mad when he didnt win

  • i need to poo

  • joaquin is pussy and could never sound like Johnny Cash.

  • @houselm Just.... shut the fuck up.

  • I think he did a great job compared to who he had to play...those are some big shoes

  • So strange seeing him here in these modern clothes...

  • davida41200 yeh better:))

  • im sorry but am i the only person on the planet who thinks joaquin phoenix sounds nothin like cash when he sings?

  • @davida41200 He doesn't sound like him especially if you hear the songs side by side but he captured the man and the feeling he put in his music.

  • @davida41200 yes

  • this guy is not so good like johnny cash

  • i think he could play elvis too

  • @jpjames1 Yeah well I think anyone could've done a better job than the guy who played Elvis in this film. He was absolutely nothin like him.

  • Why are people calling Johnny Cash with this name Joaquin Phoenix ?

  • It's all good...you transcend everything as the movie draws you in and you don't think about the voice, until the end, when the credits roll and it's really Johnny and June singing "Long Legged Guitar-Pickin' Man" and you realize...Joaquin Phoenix (all the credit in the world for the role) ain't ever gonna be Johnny Cash.

  • better than Johnny Cash

  • i saw that shitfest of a movie capote in theatres man lols

he was good but phoenix was way better man.

HE SANG ALL THE FUCKIN SONGS HIMSELF LOLS ARE YOU SERIOUD KID?????!!!

  • Hey,

    Awesome video. Peace

    -MW

  • @MatthewHowardWight douchebag alert! douchebag alert! WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOO WWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOO

  • didnt he also play the bad guy from gladiator?

  • @GreasyRockabilly Emperor Commodus, yeah

  • I honestly didn't think that Reese did an awesome job as Joaquin on this movie yet she was given the Oscar and Joaquin was overlooked. What the heck is wrong with these people who choose who gets the Oscar?? They don't know jack about acting!!

  • Joaquin's performance was so good, it made me a Johnny Cash fan.

  • Joaquin didn't even played the guitar before the movie? Man, he seems as if he did only this for, like FOREVER! I love it!

  • i dont think any actor will EVER do as good a job playing the roll of a musical legend as Joaquin did playing Johnny Cash. when i saw that movie i could not believe how well he did

  • Joaquin did a great job, but check out our guy! johnnycashtribute.ca were thee best cash tribute act around! theres lots of counterfeit cash's around, dont get burned! check us out, were coming to see you!

  • joaquinie the meanie hehehehhehee

  • @stevenkahn1..Phillip seymour won..from capote...Reese Witherspoon won best actress..walk the line wasn't nominated for best picture

  • What an amazing actor to play such an amazing musician.

On screen, he really IS Johnny Cash, no doubt. Perfect.

  • who beat him to win the oscar??

  • great job . . . great player!!! joaqui . . no other

  • Joaquin was blessed with J.R.'S presence all through that film!!

  • One of the best actors of all time.

  • cheated of an oscar

  • hahahahahahaha he actually looks like a stoner...

  • The cash is strong in this one

  • I love the scene when he looks back, waiting for the solo!

  • he is hot here!!!!!

  • I`ve the same question. I cant understand that.

  • si de un tiempo para aca, no dieran los oscares por que los "deben" Joaquin Phoenix se lo hubiera llevado, para la proxima que este nominado se lo tendran que dar por que se lo quedaron a deber T__T, gran actor!!

  • I really wish I could find the clip of him singing 'walk the line'... great scene

  • amazing film, loved it.

  • As a die hard fan of Johnny Cash, I refused to see the movie. I thought NO way could anyone protray him properly. I was in the hospital and my room mate was watching it on TV..I immediatley rented it when I came home..I was wrong..Joaquin WAS Johnny, he pulled it off with amazing ability, right down the the lip curl..when I found out he and Reese did their own vocals..mind blown..Joaquin also pulled that off,& I hate to say it, but I think Reese's voice is actually better than June's...Go figure

  • @47jenken

lol, i thought the same thing, when i finally watched the movie i was blown away, by both of their performances.

later i found out they did their own singing, WOW!!

  • @47jenken same but when i found out that joaquin was approved by the man in black myself well if its good enough for johnny its good enough for me brother.

  • @47jenken I had no idea who Johnny Cash was!! I remember watching the promo commercails and saying 'DUMB MOVIE' watched it once....the second it was over re-started it...Love this movie...i've seen his daughter Rosanne....she is wonderful...

  • @47jenken That is exactly what I said!

  • whats the name of that song in 0:42

  • @MrFantomas45 Folsom Prison Blues

  • Yay my name is Joaquin too!! :D

  • for me, cash was the best out of jerry lee, elvis etc

  • I LIKE THIS MOVIE VERY MUCH, BUT I LIKE IT MORE BECAUSE OF THE DRUGS AND BEER AND THE MUSIC...

  • I guess he said to himself, "Well, I'll never be able to top this role", and decided to go out and become a Hasidic gangsta rapper.

It was that or become a Sherpa goat herder in Nepal, but the former had better perks.

  • You're interpretation it's great..you're great !

    tata 73 Roma

  • almost better than johny cash, give me some songs fromt his actor!

  • thats folsom prison blues, not walk the line

  • @ABurr333 the movie is walk the line bud

  • i love him:)

  • johnny cash´'s spirit lives on and on

  • I do think he channeled Cash...it's a bit eerie the way his voice dropped right before they began filing this movie. Like Cash rose right up out of his vocal chords, and came back to life.

  • Really outstanding performance! Not just him Joaquin Phoenix, but Dan John Miller and Larry Bagby, who played Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant certainly as well!

  • WOW! They seriously couldn't have picked a better person for this roll besides johnny cash himself of course, but he played the perfect young johnny cash. Unbelieve, imo.

  • How did the guy not freakin' won an Oscar for this?! Oh well, Oscars are about as meaningful these days as toilet paper.

  • @frankystein12 Agreed, and the toilet paper made me laugh thank you.

  • @frankystein12 i don't know about you, but toilet paper is pretty freakin' meaningful to me.

  • @cody13smith Good point...

  • @frankystein12 no it's worse.. at lest you cant go to the bathroom without paper!

  • @frankystein12 Cheap toilet paper no Charmin lol

  • @frankystein12 not true,,, reese got it

  • @frankystein12 He definetely deserved it. Problem is there was another great, oscar worthy, performance that year :(

  • @frankystein12 I personally think toilet paper is a necessity =)

  • @frankystein12 Toilet paper is VERY meaningful.

  • @frankystein12 Win*

  • @frankystein12 I don't know about that, I though Phillip Seymour Hoffman was pretty good in Capote too.

  • Someone knows where i can find the "theme" for the movie? I'm talking about the beautiful guitar play, that comes along the film, not the actual songs!

  • Hes a perfect fit for the replacement of johnny cashh in other words hes the new Man in

    BLACK .

  • the song is folsom prison blues if yall wana kno

  • @leatherfacefan1974 "yall"? WTF is "yall"? Wall don't get it.

  • @tommerrigan1956 i didnt want to type it all yall

  • Sendo que foi o próprio Johnny Cash que escolheu Joaquim Phoenix para interpreta-lo, assim como June escolheu a Reese

  • Song name ?? 0:40

  • What's the name of the songs at 0:40 ??

  • @Metallica0Destruct Folsom Prison Blues, Though Johnny's version was more upbeat

  • @Metallica0Destruct

    Thats Folsom Prison Blues

  • Hes so cute. When hes talking he seems so shy and modest.

  • he did realy gooooooooooooooood!

  • ummmm... Joaquin.... he is so fucking sexy

    L O V E <3 him

  • as the english say.. wimp

  • His performance was truly transcendent, he WAS Johnny Cash on that screen.

  • @SneakyDudeBG Yes! Honestly, sometimes when I watch the movie, I DO forget that I'm actually watching Joaquin. It's super crazy.

  • i would give my left nut for that guitar on 1:05 no joke.

  • this is my favourite part of the movie, you can see that john really wanted to be signed, joaquin played him perfectly deserved an oscar

  • I was just singing with him around 0:50 with a deep voice and then suddenly heard another guy singing the next part on xbox live. I forgot I had my mic on lol.

    embarrassing :O

  • He deserved Oscar on this performance!

    Perfect in everything...

  • @jarja1 He was robbed of that chance. sigh. Makes you wonder, is that the reason why he is in such sorrow ?

  • One of the BEST performances ever, that Oscar is his, though not physically. He needs to come back to us and start singing too, real songs, not that hip hop stuff. Joaquin has an amazing voice. I'd buy his cd's he sang anything other than hip hop.

  • joaquin is like an idenical match to the real johnny cash

  • @meganfox646

    Not really.

  • @charliegirl1985 is that because he reminds you of your dead faggot boyfriend who dies of drugs and the aids you spread to him??

  • What is the name of the song he sings at 0'44 ? Please :)

  • @bethany2710 Folsom Prison blues.

  • @bethany2710 its "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash

  • LIndo! Sem palavras pra descrever. Amo vc!

  • aweosme

  • i wish johnny cash would have been able too see this movie

  • I can't believe he sang the songs himself. What a great actor.

  • my dad told me that Johnny Cash asked for Joaquin to play him or something along thoses lines

  • He's performance in this movie was absolutely mind blowing!!!He deserved all the prestigious awards there is.He got robbed!!!No wonder he don't wanna be an actor anymore,he's really underrated and unappreciated!!!

  • How did he not win the Oscar?!!!! I saw Capote and I fell asleep cuz that movie sucked ass!

  • Joaquin is a great actor my fav by a mile. he did great portraying johnny.

  • Phoenix and Witherspoon both deserved oscars. At least she got one.

  • @bluebitterfly yea, there was no reason for Joaquin not to get one, I never understood why he didn't get one. just ridiculous but on the other hand, in order to win those awards a person may need boobs on them, look pretty, or an over the top popular animated character.

  • still cant believe he didnt win the oscar.....

  • @aeolida one of the best acting performances there has ever been.

  • Phoenix is a nut case.

  • Comment removed

  • @BrytaPlanka All an act? HE WORE JOHNNY CASH'S SKIN.

  • @Nonsaneness My cousin wrote that comment with my youtube account without my permissoin and im removing "my" comment... because its not actually my comment at all... I have no idea what you two are arguing about here...

  • @BrytaPlanka My alter ego got a hold of my Youtube account also. He has a wild imagination.

  • He's so god damn sexy singin' "Folsom prison blues"!

  • I watched this in Music Appreciation class 2 years ago and watching it again in Orchestra. Phoenix's acting/singing in this movie is quite impressive. Never heard Cash's music, but the way Phoenix portrays it is with such.. PASSION. It seriously moves me. And I'm a guy. :)

  • aryrmiaandmax@absolutley right and i just watched the movie yesterday he deserved ey oscar.

  • I have no Idea How Joaquin Phonix pulled of Folsom Prison Blues, but he did! It just goes to show you how much of an Influince Johnny Cash was.

  • dude its an auto harp, a harpsichord is like a piano

  • shame after this that fucker went batshit

  • when did johny cash died

  • 2003..

  • @spookybuffalo

    2003

  • 2003

  • september 12 2003, less than 4 months after his wife june. he had weak lungs after a case of severe pnemonia in 1998

  • joaquin ruleez!!!!!!

  • i love joaquin

  • ...

  • i agree with that last line..: spooky.. joaquin is fucking brilliant.

  • Joaquin is a brilliant actor...not just to "play" Johnny, but to master the guitar as impressively as he did. Anyone who plays can immediately spot someone who is faking it, and he is doing the real thing....and so is Reese with the harpiscord.....just an amazing performance from both of them.

  • harpiscord... not that impressive, its a noob guitar with buttons for chords instead of legit fingering

  • Don't be such a downer, for someone who is not a musician, mastering that or the f'n kazoo to the degree she did is something to applaud.

  • mhm it is, im just chirping the instrument not Reese

  • @nateman8 It's an autoharp, but anyways.

  • @nateman8 Harpsichord is a piano, no buttons

  • only noob thing around here is your absolute nub presence....and if you think that was a typo, then it proves how much of a nub you already are....

  • @nateman8 The harpsichord was one of the earliest "pianos", not an autoharp.

  • "noob guitar"

so what? you are 14 years old and a little twit or you are a 38 year old gamer who has never been laid......great choices ....congrats!

  • Walk The Line: Extended Cut DVD , I didn't know that, there's a Extended Cut, whit more minutes?

  • Well played Joaquin Phoenix!

  • what was the song name before he sing folsom prison?

  • I was there when it happened

  • @57Marc57 Cocaine Blues

  • Johnny Cash would be proud of him.

  • i agree, i just wish they would make an Elvis Movie thats as good as Johns Or Jerry Lees

  • He was alive to see Walk The Line.

  • @sheldonholy

    Cash died in '03.

    Movie released in '05.

  • @azjc04 Ok. We are studying the film in school and my teacher said it was released in '03.

    Thanks for correcting me BTW.

  • @sheldonholy it was released in 2005

  • @UlsterLoyal72

he was. they did an interview with johnny cash, and he judged the actors, and said that phoenix nailed it

  • @IRONHIDE434

Except that Cash was dead when this was released.

  • @IRONHIDE434 LOL he died like in 2003 or something around there

  • Joaquin deserved an Oscar for his performance! he sing act perfectly. Oscar last 10 years been so politically correct.

i bet if he played gay foreigner version of Johny Cash they woulda give him 2 Oscars

  • haha so true, joaquin was amazing in this film and really became the man in black!! one of my altime favorites!

  • @aryamiaandmax Or if he was American Idol, the worst thing that ever happened to music.

  • @aryamiaandmax hahahhah @ gay foreigner version

  • @aryamiaandmax

IF he woulda played a gay JEW then yes he would get ten oscars.

  • @paralyzer1111

    haha

    fuckin right mate^^

  • @aryamiaandmax Thats because the Oscars are runned by politically incorrect people :))

  • @aryamiaandmax don't forget retarded.

  • @aryamiaandmax or inserted an Oscar up his arse

  • i bet even Sir Johnny Cash would love Joaquin in this movie both by acting AND the singing! Reese witherspoon did a excelent job too!

  • Johnny Cash was never knighted so you cant call him Sir

  • hes knighted in the hall of fame!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
