Hawk wing is my favourite horse ever. He had the best turn of foot that i have ever seen and he should have one a classic. This race proves his class

He would have buried High Chapperal in the Guineas and Rock of Gibraltar in the Derby.

I do wish that he'd been given another chance at longer distances. After all, if it hadn't been for High Chaparral, he would have won the Derby by 12 lengths on soft ground, so he was hardly a non-stayer.

Hawk Wing was amazingly talented but there was something wrong with him that they never really managed to pin point. I remember talk of him having some minor blood problem, but every now and then he would come out with something like this.

Hawk Wing was truely one of the most talented/good looking horses to ever grace a race course, 2nd in a derby in which he did not stay but still destroyed Moon Ballad (Dubai World Cup Winner) should have won guineas and this performance was awesome if you look at what he had behind him.

Now Hawk wing proved to be a good stallion one of his colts known as becket wins4 races out of his 5 starts and once placed 2nd in indian grade 1 derby .becket wins banglore derby also. i never see hawk wing racing live but becket shows how strong is his blood line

He was stuffed in his next race by the same distance and this race was still slow of the standard.

It was only .78 off the standard, and it was bottomless ground!!!!! Even though it was that soft, on his times he would have won the last 4 runnings of the race.

couldnt agree more with krisstruss, the 2,000 Guinneas was a big dissapointment (can never forgive J Spencer for that) and not the horses fault.

Hawkwing was a brilliant colt{a little bit quirky} people forget,take out High Chaparral and Hawkwing would have won the Derby by 10 lengths,brilliant speed and also stayed.

Just watched it again, probably the most devastating performance over that distance I have ever seen.

If it is so bad why was he not 1/3 or less.

Backed him that day and loved the performance.

Remember this well..stunning. One of the unluckiest horses ever was Hawk Wing. The Guineas run was just too much to ask of even a horse like him, and he had to get beat by the not-as-good Rock who frankly got it on a plate. At least you can see this vid and know what a star he was. Demolition job.

One of the most talented horses that I've seen was Hawk Wing. He was unfortunate in his career at times. He was unlucky in the 2,000 Guineas. His huge effort in the Derby took it's toll on him as he was never the same horse for the rest of the 2002 season. This was an awesome performance but then he suffered an injury and that was his racing career over. That was a shame because I would have really liked to have seen him up against Falbrav later on in 2003.

I follow Aidans horses very closely and without doubt I think that this fellow was the best or at least the most classy.

His Derby effort was huge but it was also a great effort to be beat a short head in the Irish Champ Stakes by Grandera when Aidans horses were all coughing at the time. I think he probably would have taken Falbrav at least in that years Eclipse where I dont think Falbrav had to be at his best.

Its hard to know, he definately should have won but he was drawn on the slow side of the track, that was unlucky but Spencer still should have kicked earlier. I must upload that race

His main fault was that he didnt seem to look across the racecourse and see what was happening on the other side until it was too late and the bird had flown

Its far too early to say just how good Henrythe.... will be but that performance from Hawk Wing was the best I'v seen, well maybe Arazi was as good????
