  • these videos coming to light on Buddy Merrill are just fascinating and amazing. Years back I bought a record of his; it was corny, commercial and not really listenable. If I am wrong I apologize, but I don't think he made any albums or recordings that showcase his awesome guitar playing skills. I wonder why...

  • he is so good it makes me want to smash all my guitars and burn them

  • Hi, TV Collector. I've read that my favorite singer, Jim Reeves, was on the Welk show a couple of times, but I've never been able to find anything on those espisodes. Can you help?

  • man! fender strats sound great.

  • Outstanding playing...every note is clean and clear, and he's fast!

  • This reminds me of The Ventures....sort of.

  • current Chicago guitarist, Joel Paterson, another devotee of Merle Travis, performs this song in tribute to Buddy

  • some you'll never see much clean guitar no effects

  • Reminds me of Jeffs Boogie by Jeff Beck.Love that clean STRAT SOUND

  • Good golly!!! What amazing playing!

  • Hank Garland indeed! and Les Paul also. There were lots of 'twin guitar boogie' tunes like this from the era.

  • So many styles from Buddy. Here he sounds just like Hank Garland and Melre Travis.

  • @billga2007 - Or Arthur Smith's "Guitar Boogie," c. 1945.

  • i wonder what that strat would be worth today

  • Literally thousands of bucks!!!!

  • 50-100 k usd

  • @BruceWLA if it's a 54 or 55 Howabout 35,000 at least

  • In watching clips like these, one can see, rather than wonder, why Lawrence Welk was a hit, Superb music played by superb musicians. By the late 1960's however, and for the rest of its run, the show had become a parody of itself.

  • @CrummyCurtis You have a point. The show became a little

top heavy with singers by the 70's. Less instrumental

showcases. Welk should have run some of these shows

again by that time for himself, to see that they were drifting

    away from a winning formula.

  • I remember my parents watching Lawrence Welk and always hoping for a Buddy Merril number.

  • this is my uncle!! so talented..best on guitar you will ever see! love him

  • Your uncle is great.

  • A little Fender plug from the Welkster!

  • that's my cousin, Buddy.
