these videos coming to light on Buddy Merrill are just fascinating and amazing. Years back I bought a record of his; it was corny, commercial and not really listenable. If I am wrong I apologize, but I don't think he made any albums or recordings that showcase his awesome guitar playing skills. I wonder why...
Hi, TV Collector. I've read that my favorite singer, Jim Reeves, was on the Welk show a couple of times, but I've never been able to find anything on those espisodes. Can you help?
In watching clips like these, one can see, rather than wonder, why Lawrence Welk was a hit, Superb music played by superb musicians. By the late 1960's however, and for the rest of its run, the show had become a parody of itself.

Hank Garland indeed! and Les Paul also. There were lots of 'twin guitar boogie' tunes like this from the era.

So many styles from Buddy. Here he sounds just like Hank Garland and Melre Travis.

@CrummyCurtis You have a point. The show became a little
top heavy with singers by the 70's. Less instrumental
showcases. Welk should have run some of these shows
again by that time for himself, to see that they were drifting
away from a winning formula.
