@r8qt7 : The furthest I've gone with modern consoles is the PS2 and Gamecube. Half of the games I own for those systems I've never even played. Yet I still go back to this game. Why? GAMEPLAY.
Sad to say the video game industry has become a clone of hollywood where netting the most profit as easily and with as little risk as possible often at the cost of orginality and creativity is job number 1. So unless there is a 60's/70's style revolution like hollywood had it's halo spin offs, dlc, and brain dead Fallout sequals for the forseble future, eh at least there's the Emulation scene and a few brillant modern games here and there.
Why didn't you put Joseph your monk in the first three? I seemed to remember I trained a monk to a high level, and he was my best fighter. No matter how high I let my thiefs and hunters advance, they never did me much good. Warriors, palladins, monks in the front. In the back put a bard and two mages.
Yes. A monk trained to a high level will be the best of the fighter classes. At the time though Joseph was getting his arse kicked in the front lines so I moved him back until he trained a few more levels.
I have an Apple IIGS video of Bard's Tale II. Put this into your youtube search box - Bard's Tale II - The Destiny Knight (Apple IIGS version) -The Dark Domain
I agree. I remember spending most of my free time for a few months back in 1987 and 1988 playing this game for hours on my Commodore 64 and how frustrating it was without any maps. Well I was not as intelligent as other friends who memorize the Skare Brae town and the dungeons very easily and using grid notebooks...
I prefer the bard's tale by inxile in 2005

With all the dungeon crawlers coming back it would be nice to see a new Bards tale that didn't suck balls.

That acolyte in the thief temple looks a little too much like Jason Voorhees...

I disagree. High enough your hunters crit chance pretty much approaches or equals 100%.

Oh the memories.
I think it's a testament to the human imagination that these graphics -- at least at the time -- could really make one's mind come alive.
Great game.

Agreed.
1986 I bought this game and it was the first and last that I was truly addicted to. Ah, nostalgia...

I'll take the newer one for the PS2 any day.
I hated those games. Mainly because I kept getting lost without a map, and had/have no patience.
