So people on both sides of an argument tend to be half-correct in their assertions. It's a shame, because well-intentioned, uninformed people who they are presumably interested in the discussion are not given a full picture (I assume people on the far sides have already decided how they feel).

Much of the history is often besides the point. 1897, 1947, 1967 are all in the past. We are entering 2012 and Israelis and arabs are not re-cutting deals of decades ago. Will they make peace today?

The problem stems from misuse of words. People use "Palestinian" and "arab" interchangably. It creates all sorts of half-truths and mis-statements.

1. There was an Ottoman region referred to as Palestine

2. The people who lived there were of mixed origins, including Jews

3. "Palestinians" would rightly include all of those people, much as "New Yorkers" refers to a broad collection of people who live in NY

The problem is today, people cherry-pick only arabs as Palis, making statements false
