  • This is horrible to see, but it shows they cared enough about these issues to make it. In the time it was made there couldn't have been any other way to show dogs talking than animation.

  • I'm watching the film as i read the novel ^^

  • Very interesting yet dark UK animated film and up there with other adult talking animal animated movies like Antz, Felidae, Twilight of the Cockroaches and Watership Down

  • Guys, their names are Snitter and Rowf.

I read the book so I should know.

  • what did they do to the dog's head anyway?

  • @ilovehellboy i dont know the details but i heard that "experiments" were performed on his brain that cause him to halucinate things from time to time. hope that helped.

  • @ilovehellboy never especially mentioned, but it caused the dogs subconcious and concious mind to merge. So he sees things even when he's awake.

  • It is Rowlf. Not Ralph. Awwrite?

  • When Skitter and Ralph are chasing sheep, the music sounds like a remix of a game soundtrack.

  • @CharmieKid Suppose on Sega Genesis?

  • @pikminpanic Yeah, something like that.

  • I usually enjoy it when something is so themed/meaningful but the book was bad IMO and the movie only seems good. I hate the ending, that much I know.

  • u know in animal testing they steal ur pets sometimes yeeesh

  • All animal testing is wrong and so ia eating them. That's why i've made the choice of being a vegetarian. If you eat meat you support this treatment. Go vegetarain and show you care! Make a difference today!

  • @dragonloverxxl34 did u know that our deadorant, shampooo, cars, white paper, crayons , toothpaste , glue, shoes come from cow? antibiotics and meds were tested on animals. without animal testing for certian things we'd die

  • @dragonloverxxl34 ... being vegetarian is a completely different concept, i hope you comprehend that. i don't believe in animal testing much but i'd die without meat due to amino acid and protein deficiencies. you can eat meat and not support this.. idiot.

  • I wish they'd make more animated movies like this.

  • @Robertfan89 they did its called texas chainsaw massacre

  • @Robertfan89 Yes, In some places. People break into the homes of others and steal the pets maybe for the meat, Or fur or even testing. I saw a report on something like that in China (I think it was).

  • @Robertfan89 bc this was twisted and bloody...it was a joke

  • @Robertfan89 Why would they appeal to the very few few who'd watch this when they have loads of stupid kids to make shreks , cars , tangled , more of that crap ( crap as in not so original , unique and interesting i dont mean they suck too bad i just dont feel they deserve the scores they get )

  • @Robertfan89 and @Cobac You guys must have had very disturbing childhoods...

  • why snitter doesnt sound like john hurt?

  • 7:55

    That's my birfday<3

  • what sort of damage did they do to these poor dogs its utterly depressing it makes me think of abuse as well how they act it hurts me deeply

  • whats wrong with his head? what did thye do?

  • this is soo goury : p

  • this is a seriously depressing movie

  • Is Snitter voiced by John Hurt?

  • the only thing i dislike about this movie is that i can hardley hear what there saying unless u turn up the volume full but then when theres dramatic music everyone in my house can hear it :C

  • @TereziCalibrator are you using headphones or not? Because if you’re using headphones then the problem is only that the sound only comes out of the left. Idk y. If you aren’t then sorry I have no clue what the problem is

  • @TereziCalibrator I totally know what yuu mean :/ I put on headphones and I still can't hear wat their saying but without the headphones the music gets so freakin loud my dogs started barking xD and it's 1AM

  • is the voice of ralph the same voice of bigwig in watership down??

  • @RachelNo1mjfan88 was wondering bout that, too..

  • @RachelNo1mjfan88 yep it sure is ^-^

  • I like that they're like : OH we can chase the sheep to!

What if i was like: OH I can declare war too!

  • I like the music at @2:20.

  • For anyone else who is wondering about the bandage on Snitter's head: In his testing, they linked his subconscious mind to his conscious, so thats why he has his visions during the day. They're like waking nightmares.

Also, I believe Rowf (if that is how you spell it) has PTSD from very nearly drowning the water

On a side note: I love Snitter's voice xD Its cute :3

  • what is wrong with snitter's head?

  • I think it might be because they`re british that i can`t understand them. Or wat everyone else is saying. I`m American and I always had trouble with their accents

  • Don't get me wrong, Director - I love you for uploading this. Seriously, will you have my children? I must say, however, that the audio here is terrible! This grievance is not against you; I cite the film more than the upload. The sound is quite good where it comes to SFX and the like. The dialogue is, unfortunately, muffled. The fact that the characters mumble their lines doesn't help, either. :P

Any possible way this upload can be CC'd?

  • @MartenFerret I agree. I couldn't hear a word from that first collie, and I need to have my volume all the way up to hear what they're saying. That obviously doesn't work well when you're trying to hide what you're watching and something loud happens in the background.

  • do they sell movies like this anymore?:O

  • I kinda don't understand what those collies were saying.

  • The emotion actually comes across pretty well in the dogs' facial expressions. The sheepdogs seem genuinely pissed off that the two hero dogs have interrupted their "job" which they obviously take very seriously.

  • WOO! GO ROWF! YOU DON'T NEED NO FREAKING MASTER!

  • Animal activism propaganda movies are annoying but I'm just watching this for the horror/disturbance aspect of it.

  • @respeanut You're annoying

  • @vegangurly Go cry me a river

  • @respeanut This is a movie based on a great novel from the 1977's. It's not "propaganda", not in the same catagory as PeTA for christ sake.

And what part IS propaganda? As far as I know animals were and are drowned, suffocated, maimed, blinded, poisoned, drugged, amputated, electrocuted and their brains probed for bad science and money.

  • What exactly did they do to sniffers head?

  • @mudheartofthunder They were doing some tests on his brain. Either that, or the scientists removed it although it seems highly unlikely since Snitter IS the pick of the litter here.

  • @RoxStar09 wait the scientist removed his brain? how does he keep working? *pokes* o.o

  • @DrummingEvil They didn't remove it, they rewired parts.

  • @suicune690 ;3

  • Ralph acts weird to me....i dont like him . 3 .

  • I love both dogs and rats, and given the chance, I sure would have taken these two in. <3

  • Those shepherds are gorgeous x3 I love their accent. My dog is a herder, so I get reminded of him every time I see this part.

  • no Living thing should feel the pain us humans put on animals, be it a dog, cat, horse, monkey, fish or rodent. If you wouldn't do it to your child you shouldn't do it to another creature.

  • Why Dogs, cats and monkeys? Why cant they just stick to rodents? Seriously, no offense but I'd rather take the rat than the dog for testing.....

  • @SuirenHoshimura wtf rats and other rodents have just as many feelings and feel just as much pain as dogs and cats!!!!!

  • @winterfrost486 I would agree with the pain bit but in terms of what we see as feelings id say a dog is far superior to a rat. Cognitively speaking as well, and in terms of social and communicative skills. It's just scientific fact.

  • @rustedrainbow

actually, it has scientifically been tested that the part that creates emotion is very primitive

it has also been found in almost all mammals (including rats and other small rodents)

the emotions a human, dog, cat or rat can feel are just as complex

(and it has been long proven that rats are extremely social and even have friend relationships ;) )

  • @ravengurl100 I own pet rats, and they sure are good buddies~

  • @winterfrost486 So do spiders, and other bugs you kill without thinking about.

  • @SuirenHoshimura I own rats and they are very intelligent gentle creatures. being smaller then a dog shouldn't make there life less important.

  • This was one of the best books I have ever read, I just could not put it down towards the end, it was incredible, loved it! :)

  • "Aaahh they be tourists!" :D

  • If I ever found a dog that seemed hurt and heartbroken or have a bad mark of animal cruliety I keep he or she and bring he or she to the vet.

  • @Howlingwildwolf where they would eventually put he/she to sleep if a good home is not found. way to go.

  • I've seen a few comments about microchips in Snitter's brain, I'm a tad bit confused as to where this came from - as from what I gathered thus far in the novel no mention is placed on microchips however his surgery is mentioned though no details disclosed, merely that it effects his reality and his imaginings through his senses.

  • @Yonaroo Youre right. It was just a surgery on his brain. No microchips.

  • @Yonaroo I think this movie takes place before the advent of microchips.

  • i prefer movies like this because they are more exciting :) although it is really sad about the animal testing :(

  • Fun fact: The voice of Snitter (John Hurt) was also the voice of Hazel from Watership Down!

  • Comment removed

  • @lpslover1223 He's called Rowf :)

  • whats the black dogs name?

  • Now, see, THESE are true animated movies. They have feeling and truth and harshness.

  • @Saphruikan Exactly! XD

  • oh the dramatic irony. :c

  • Rowlf looks like my dog ^^

  • Did Snitter have a seizure from seeing the stripes on the road? Or did he have a memory of the road where his master was hit?

  • @WrenxAirie

I think the microchip in Sniffer's brain would periodically cause him to hallucinate. He just happened to do so when he found the road.

  • Ralph is meh fav :)

  • whats that thing taped to the dogs head?

  • @WilliamBroichYAY Maybe if you keep watch, you just might find out. d:

  • @WilliamBroichYAY a lot of experiments on animals involve implanting devices directly onto the brain, in reality the outcome is far more gruesome than what is shown in this cartoon. I have seen a cat who was subjected to the same treatment and her brain tissue was exposed through her skull and the device was seemingly stapled to the exposed brain. it drives the animals mad and causes brain damage and inevitably infection because the wound is never sealed or stitched up.

  • @0madmadame yea i hate animal testers thers a island near mountok NY called plum island and i live close to mountok so i wanna go there and kick each tester in the balls (if they have any)

  • @0madmadame but not all testing is bad. Tests about behavior(whether animals can use tools, figure out a maze) are alright, even interesting for the animals. And medical testing, though sad, are sometimes needed. It doesn't make it pleasant, and the tests in the movie and that you mentioned are wrong, but it is unfair to place a stigma on an entire field where many are humane. My dad tests animal behavior, and he would hate the scientists in this movie.

  • I don't even understand how animal testing can truly help us. How is a rabbit's reaction going to guarantee that a human will have the same reaction? Humans =/= animals but damn people al for human rights don't believe in subjecting them to human experiments even if they've agreed to do so.

  • Those Stone Monsters were like Kaibutsu from GDW.

  • @MrCrashlover679 Ginga Densetsu Weed is an AWESOME SHOW!

  • Notice how a few of the voice actors are the same in this as in Watership Down? The one dog is Fiver...and that scientist saying "well that's something anyway" is Cowslip.

  • @UmatsuObossa I was actually wondering if some of these were the same voice actors from watership down XD

  • lol, love how its the masters who want them to run about for sticks

  • I love it when he says, "That man is a master....a real master of dogs." Makes me have goosebumps.

  • I love the dogs' body language. Really shows the bond between them. I wonder how long they've known each other...

  • I luv Snitter Hes a cute puppy and i have the same breed :D

  • I like ralph the best ,but he needs to use his head a little more

  • This is dark!

  • Chasing a man's sheep... GREAT idea -.- Well, I see where he's coming from, he had pretty good reasoning... Hm, weird.

  • w its cute how they think they're doin a good job ha!

  • Snitter is my fav!! Hes so cute!

  • OMG!!! That sheep dog talks!!!

  • Amazing animation. So realistic. It's a shame you don't see movies like this any more.

  • @LeoieChan I agree. The reason we don't see it too often is because it's extremely difficult to keep it interesting when animated so lifelike. It would be more practical if there were more of these darker animations being made.

  • @LeoieChan True.... No one knows whats good...

  • harsh words posted over youtube

  • I could not understand one dang word those Shepherds were saying lol

  • @RhondaCat lol yeah you have to be from yorkshair xD

  • lol I figured

  • The terrier sounds like Fiver. And the big one sounds like Hazel.

  • I know John Hurt did voice acting in this movie as well as in Watership Down, so you're probably right.

  • Actually, the terrier is John Hurt who played as Hazel in the Watership Down movie. I know it sounds weird but I looked up this movie on wiki.

  • @marilynx65 i think it sounds like bigwig and fiver :S but yeah they use same voices for WSD and this

  • what did the black dog say change to what we used to be then he said something animals ?

  • Real Animals. Wlld Animals.

  • this movie reminds me of wolf's rain

  • it does..:D

  • i was referring to it both being about dogs/wolves. people have different opinions or have you forgotten that? grow up.

  • ha i love the liverpool sheep dogs!

  • I swear that one of the human voices near the end is the same person who did the voice of Cowslip in 'Watership Down'. I can hear it when he says "anyway" for some reason. Lol

  • probably did. I mean Sniitter is Hazel. There are lots of voices that are in both.

  • i'm 13 and i already watched watership down today.....and it didn't scare me cause i had a rabbit for a pet and his name was Mr. Cuddles....and this isn't scary at all....

  • @wwenativewolf Well aren't you a hard man, little boy! not meant to be scary and you'll appreciate it more when you aint a kid.

  • Animal testers should read a fucking book on humanism or something... seriously

  • @MotionPictureLister and hippies should read a science manual , seriously

  • Ditto! Or if they think these precedures are so necassary, test it on themselves.

  • conchatumadre!!! seguro debes ser maricon ven para meterte la pinga webonaso

  • I wouldnt have wanted to watch this as a kid.

Watership Down scared me, and gave me a fear of rabbits, and thats not even as bad as this film.

    Its not very kid-friendly.

  • Watership Down scared you? I cried but i loved it as a child. Still love it, read it some years ago, too. But this is dark

  • Yeah, the whole "field is covered with blood" scene and when Holly is talking about the warrens being filled in by humans, "Runs clogged with dead bodies" ect..

  • What the fuck made you think this was intended for kids? You think just because it's animated it means it's for kids? Have you seen South Park or Ghost In The Shell? Just because it's animated doesnt mean children can watch it. that's the first think the japanese people will teach you.

  • Oh stop complaining, i NEVER said it was INTENDED for kids! i said "not very kid-friendly" therefore, i could know it could be an adult film, but some parents let kids watch these sort of films. And yes ive seen South Park, Ghost In the Shell, Family Guy, Elfen Lied, ect., so dont try acting smart with me buddy.

  • oh noez!!!! RALPHS TURNING INTO A CAT :o 09:17

  • The voice actors, even for the minor characters, really know what they're doing.

  • Im confused...I need a plot to this movie...so like the beginning of it why was that one dog drowning in water and why were they treating those dogs so cruel!? can some one tell me?

  • They were in an animal testing lab

  • they were lab animals. Under tests to see how things work.

Then they decided to escape. Now they are looking for masters.

  • hey disney is very good so shut your yap not the disney channel crap but the good old disney

  • I have to disagree with you there, buddy. Disney completely screwed up the origional Brother's Grimm fairy tales. I DO agree that those movies like Snow White and Cinderella ARE cute and all, but those stories were origionally told to children to teach them about the world

  • Comment removed

  • Most people, upon being told the original fairy tales, find them disgusting and violent.

  • They Teach You In Disney Movies, That Humans Always Help Animals, And Would Never Hurt Them. And They Do Not Show Proper Animal Behaviour.

I'm Ashemed Of My Fellow Humans, When Watching These Movie. (Ofcourse, Not EVERYBODY is like this.) I Ennjoyed The Book, And Enjoyed The Movie.

    -Respect :-)

  • ever heard of cruella deville?

  • its movies like this that make you feel ashamed to be human

  • I don't feel ashamed...I never did anything to them!

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. There just wasn't nearly enough cruelty for my sensitive tastes.

  • "Art thou stark bloody mad!?"

  • 08:58 is it just me or does the man speaking in the background sound like cowslip's voice in watership down

  • Ide reconize this quality anywhere its just like battleship down about the rabbits!

  • Heehee I think you mean "Watership down" :) But yeah you're right :D

  • i wish there were more films like this that give a realistic portrayal of animal behaviour, rather than cutesy disney movies.

  • i agree, however, whilst the animation of the dogs is very true to life. The way man mis-treats animals is spot on. This movie is so sad yet so true. I'm rather glad more movies are.nt like this.

I understand where your coming from but this in a different league to those kiddie disney films.

Check out 'Grave of the fire flies' for a very moving film (not animals tho). What ever you do dont let the kids watch it!

  • just like gng...they made the anime for younger kids, and it's still bloody like hell,,,one minute the dad of the dog is there fighting a bear, next minute he's covered in blood with the bear's head cut off...but disney has violence in them, but tehy never reallly show the blood that's supposed to appear...

  • @incrediblejessen you can watch ginga densestu weed

  • @incrediblejessen I absolutely agree!

  • Okay..just thought I would add something here for anyone wanting a bit of background on the film/book. The book, written by Richard Adams, came out in 1978, and the film was released in 1982. Its location is in the Lake District, Coniston and the surrounding Moors..you even get a map of the two dogs travels along the way, and where they have been, in the book.. The music score, I'm assuming was done on some synth keyboards, and the main song written by Alan Price called 'Time and Tide'..

  • nevermind :)

  • how comes its not available?! :(

  • I think this would be more effective if the music had been recorded with an actual orchestra, rather than cheap MIDI tools. ...Then again, a lot of their budget was probably used up on animation.

  • how old is this movie? the animation is fantastic.

  • Hearing dogs swearing is awesome!

  • them sheepdogs have proper english accents XD
