@DkM210gr Because it's a race and if they had to stop for every crash there would be no winner, but more importantly if they stopped they would have make a traffic jam, making it a lot more dangerous for other racers.

I had a similar experience w a CRX once-hit some road sand (it was winter time in MN) in the center of a curvy road I was trying to take a line on. Back and forth she went for about a block then when I thought I got it straightened out again it started swerving. After another blocks worth of swerving I was nearing the curb on my passenger side so I cranked the wheel hard left and swung er about 180. My friend and i exchanged and compared each others frightened faces.

So what your telling me is that you were in the exact same situation and that's all you did to correct it? You need to make small adjustments to the throttle-reduce power slowly. If you try stabbing the gas in a fwd with a small wheel base in a situation like that you will just pick up more momentum. In a front wheel drive the driven wheels will always pull the tail straight, you just have to make sure you keep the wheel pointing straight down the road the when ya gas it

some race in the BSB in the Superstocks and the 600s and other events. others race in club events but it isnt enough for them lol. This is what they live for. Even Carl Fogarty said himself winning the TT's that he did was better than any WSB that he won cause of the circuit is like one other.

Isle of man TT is only the scariest race on the planet, those roads are not designed to have bikes going that kind of speed. It takes SKILL, and very big ballz to do this. And yes tank slappers are the most helpless feeling in the world. Good front tire and steering dampner will help with this.

You know why these guys survive these massive crashes, even on a circuit with hard walls and curbs like the roads we ride on? Because they wear the proper gear. It doesn't guarantee your survival but it sure as shit gives you a better shot.

@AngerIsOurGift this is so true i done a trackday and highsided outta of a hairpin everything i had on was quality gear apart from the boots mid range price ended up braking three toes, says it all really, allways wear top notch gear your life is worth it. Not comparing a trackday to those tt nutters but you get the idea.
the first time I saw that I laughed for hours until I started to ride and got a tank slap. As adrenalinechaser said when that happens to you the only thing I didn't do was go to the washroom in my riding clothes.

But I've lived near death experiences! It makes you feel like some sort of god. You should try it! But I've never ever experienced anything as scary as this!
I think Orrible was due to ride a VTR1000 FireStorm but cos the swingarm mount on the VTR wasn't right for racing (he said it was causing it shake its head and move around too much) he ducked out at the last minute and choseto race his old FireBlade instead. Ironic when you see what happened......hope I got that right Paul! Glad you're still around and the flower arranging is going well ;o)

This motorcycle event is unbelievably dangerous. I'm amazed the TT races still continue, you'd think 'health and safety' rules would have banned it, but if people want to risk their lives for a bit of speed, their choice. Seems mad to me.

Isle of man TT is only the scariest race on the planet, those roads are not designed to have bikes going that kind of speed. It takes SKILL, and very big ballz to do this. And yes tank slappers are the most helpless feeling in the world. Good front tire and steering dampner will help with this.

I can vouch for that last comment, I had a bad crash 3 days ago, left the road at about 80mph tumbled in a ditch with my bike for 150 ft.
No injures. Very lucky, but I had all the good stuff on!

car cut me off without using direction lights, hit the door, made a frontflip (wish someone would of filmed that :p) and slided over the asfalt for a while, walked away with a sore arm, and the next day a stiff neck

You know why these guys survive these massive crashes, even on a circuit with hard walls and curbs like the roads we ride on? Because they wear the proper gear. It doesn't guarantee your survival but it sure as shit gives you a better shot.
Keep that in mind the next time you get ready to go out.

@AngerIsOurGift this is so true i done a trackday and highsided outta of a hairpin everything i had on was quality gear apart from the boots mid range price ended up braking three toes, says it all really, allways wear top notch gear your life is worth it. Not comparing a trackday to those tt nutters but you get the idea.

the first time I saw that I laughed for hours until I started to ride and got a tank slap. As adrenalinechaser said when that happens to you the only thing I didn't do was go to the washroom in my riding clothes.

@winterstellar - You'll never really know yourself if you don't experience anything as extreme as this. I've been in bike crashes for over 10 times. It doesn't makes me proud about it. But I've lived near death experiences! It makes you feel like some sort of god. You should try it! But I've never ever experienced anything as scary as this!

I think Orrible was due to ride a VTR1000 FireStorm but cos the swingarm mount on the VTR wasn't right for racing (he said it was causing it shake its head and move around too much) he ducked out at the last minute and choseto race his old FireBlade instead. Ironic when you see what happened......hope I got that right Paul! Glad you're still around and the flower arranging is going well ;o)

@MegaDwin If I recall rightly, Orrible broke a lot of fingers where his hands were being crushed by the bars against the tank, and he ended up losing a finger completely. He was still pretty lucky tho...
