  • Yeaaah that's cool !!!! great playing!

  • Sorry to be a stickler, it's actually Phineas Newborn on We Three, not Wynton Kelly

  • Drumset sounds like a comfortable old shoe.

  • ill just say its nice to see there are still true drummers out there who dont follow the flock

  • great job man!

  • no passion...

  • yea, just reading a paper...

But is fun to play :)

    cheers!

  • @mamalapornga hey man - don't listen to serial - i think you execute this solo super nicely. good energy, good understanding of roy's beat. I dig

  • @mamalapornga I liked it

  • @serialdrummer5353 Let us all see some of your shit, if you have any. When you grow up let us know.

  • What's your secret in tuning your toms? They sound delicious!

  • Roy Haynes is the man!!!! It's a shame we lost Billy higgins back in 2003, or somewher around there. He was yet another monster in the world of Jazz drumming. Billy Higgins played on more sessions and albums than any drummer of any genre, EVER!!! My personal favorite CD that has Roy Hayne's incredible drum work, is "Question and Answer"(1989), which was a Pat Metheny album and also featured Dave Holland on upright bass. One of the best jazz albums of all time.

  • @TheArbiter74 one of my favorites also!

  • Pretty good. I'm learning this one for school right now and it's got some pretty challenging licks.

  • The album We Three did not feature Wynton Kelly. It was Phineas Newborn on piano. Otherwise nice transcription.

  • awesome, wow! I love the sound of your kit, too man.

  • let me buy your ride.

  • wat is that ride?

  • old k?

  • spiz?

  • Great playing - great sound! I should transcribe more...

  • just a correction on your "more info" text: It was Phineas Newborn Jr and not Wynton kelly on the piano...

apart from that, very good playing!!

  • Did you transcibe this by ear?

    If so, good job

  • you can't transcribe something by sight or any other way?

  • I mean figuring it out by ear, i.e. not writing it down first.

And you can kind transcribe by sight, like with the Tony Williams videos where you can figure out how he plays his ride

  • good point, i'm a pianist so i didn't think about sight as being a transcription tool.

  • Great!

  • Yodamasta the real Yodagod!!! Montana!!!! Mister Cavernáio!

  • really nice sound.

and your rolls were nice and clean.

especially the tripplets between the toms.

    really cool.

what kind of set is that?

  • it's a sonor, not sure what type

  • Gotta love Roy Haynes, what sweet phrasing!!

  • you are great congratulations

  • sounds great!!!

  • Wow, this sounds amazing. If anybody's interested, a transcription of this solo was published in an issue of Modern Drummer a few years back. I'm not sure which month but I ripped the page out and kept it. I practice the solo from time to time for inspiration. I don't do it was well as this guy, though! Great work.

  • Looks like a constantinople with rattler chain on your left, k custom special dry hi-hats, and what is that great dry sounding ride to your right? Great playing man, I've transcribed this solo too. Roy has some memorable solos on this whole album!

  • Your playing is fucking cool . You are a TRUE MASTER , I supose you must have very well been known in your area . I wish you the better in your drumming career.

  • Youre drums sound amazing dude!

  • diggin the stick switch at the end from traditional to rim shot.....you slick mofo you!!

  • Very nice! Can i have the transkription from you maybe?

  • Yeah, your drums do sound great!!!

  • Your drums sound fantastic, and you are a very acomplished player. Great work.

  • you have really great sounding drums man.

  • You mis-identify pianist on this recording as Wynton Kelly - it's actually the GREAT Phineas Newborn Jnr. Real nice work though!

  • Real nice.

  • Art, you got it goin' on man!

  • hey man what cymbals are those? they sound great.

  • 14" istanbul Agop(signature) Hihat, 20 Zildjian constantinople, 22" Istanbul Agop (signature)

  • I was just about to ask if the 22 was an Old K... it sounds so perfect...

    Really great playing, terrific vid.

  • I'm in love with your tuning.... what drums/sizes are those? Fantastic work on that solo.

  • Thanks!
