@FlippinBooks It's very similar to the tune Benedict Cumberbatch "composes" as Holmes in the first episode of season two of the new BBC version. Could be nothing more than a coincidence but I am as suspicious of those as Holmes is himself.
LOL! Now, now, let's play nice. I didn't used to like Brett's portrayal of Holmes; in fact, I found him somewhat creepy. But I realized I was being narrow-minded, and decided to give him another chance. He's still not my favorite Holmes, but I've found some things to appreciate about his performance.
But Basil Rathbone is totally my hero. He had the look, the poise, and the dignity of Holmes, and he had a voice to die for. Sigh! Why can't actors these days be like him?
Rathbone was so much closer to the Victorian age that was Sherlock Holmes, so he understood the sensibilities. Perfect gentleman, etc. Sadly he was fighting the studio decision to fast forward to 1940's and that didn't help, but he, himself, was spot on as the great detective.
I think Brett was the best Holmes ever. But I must say that Rathbone is almost a copy of the Holmes-pictures made by Sidney Paget...

The greatest Holmeses: Arthur Wurntner, Basil Rathbone, Peter Cushing, Christopher Plummer, Tom Baker, and Jeremy Brett.

Great video! What a wonderful tribute to Basil Rathbone. And I love the song you chose by Saint-Saëns. I can almost picture Holmes playing it. :)

@FlippinBooks Indeed... Brett's performance is far too overdone! He appears affected, contriving and unlikeable...
