Their tires are packed with slippery mud. You can see the bikes slipping out from under them in alot of the crashes. They need to ride faster to clear the treads, but that may be very difficult on that kind of terrain.

I went to check this event out and it was freakin crazy! It was about 6c outside and raining and slippery. I remember the bottleneck at the bottom of this nasty ravine and they just kept piling down the hill. Priceless!!!!!
